Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.60%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put —Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped, AND torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Resinous "new-school" and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar, and tropical fruit—all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

Our Brewers selected the finest, most flavorful hops, pushed them beyond their limits and forged them into this all-new triple IPA. This reimagined Hoptimum is our hoppiest beer yet, providing a blend of tropical and citrus hop aroma that delivers a refined yet aggressive character.

Bittering hops: Simcoe
Finishing hops: Citra, Chinook, Simcoe.

Pour from a bottle to a brandy snifter. Thick creamy head.

Appearance: A nice orange copper color typical of the style.

Smell: Bam boom pap! hops in the face. Love the resiny, piney Simcoe and the citrus notes of the, assuming, proprietary hop variety. There are some grapefruit rind notes and some woody notes.

Taste: The aroma helps influence the taste and backs up the amount of grain and alcohol in this brew. A marrying of hop and grain in your glass. It finishes with a sweet maltiness. Love the citrus in this brew.

Overall: I love this interpretation of whole cone double ipa. Only wish they made this year round.

Pours a translucent copper with decent lacing and a small but lingering head. Smells fantastic. Pine and citrus with a sweet undercurrent. The taste is superb. Hugely bitter and hoppy with the perfect amount of malty sweetness to anchor and balance the piny citrusy hop flavors. The high abv is detectable but well camoflouged by the complex balance. Finishes with crazy bitterness. It truly is optimum. Mouthfeel is pretty thick and sugary but not in a bad way. Overall this is up there with hopslam. Kind of. Like a dog 90 in the way that a Lexus is like a Toyota.

Copper orange in color with a scant trace of a head that quickly disappears. Smells like pine-solvent. I'm suprised because I have high expectations for Sierra Nevada hoppy beers as I love them all. But the aroma while full of pine is just not very good. The beer recovers with the first sip. Now this is what I expect...a grapefruit/pine hop tongue-lashing. Sharp acidic aftertaste with a mild alcohol burn. Full modied. This is a big hop bomb from Sierra Nevada, rough out the edges such as the aroma and you'll have a gem.

Pours gold with a large head.
Nose shows pine, grapefruit, resinous hops and celery along with caramel.
Very full-on flavours: pine, solvent notes, caramel. The pine character is almost like a pine-scented cleaning agent. Well-hidden alcohol, but perhaps partly responsible for the soft solvent note.
Carbonation seems a little excessive.
Not overly complex or interesting, pretty much just pine throughout.

Pours crystal clear golden, headed towards amber. A huge off-white head slowly dissipates to leave tons of sticky fine lacing.

Smells pungent, bitter earthiness, a hint of sweet malts, especially with agitation.

Taste is big bitter, even and unwavering from start to finish. The malt tries to raise it's head in the middle, but is crushed by the hop. A super lemon pith finish lingers to make this hop head pretty happy.

Medium bodied with punch and kick, sticky resin feel.

Not as much citrus as I was expecting, but I haven't been disappointed by SN hops yet.

Reviewed July 7, 2012. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Poco Grande flute glass. Digitized code: 21461 06:58.
Poured a dark amber-gold with a foamy 1 finger head, aggressively poured. Tons of bubbles streaming up from the bottom center. Left pretty decent lacing.
Smells of pineapples, grapefruit, pine. Alcohol started to show as it warmed up.
Tastes of the aggressive bitter hops; just coats the tongue in citrus like flavors. An almost vinegar like acidic bite, which smoothed out as you drank it. Malts not really prevalent after the hop bombardment, but help as a mild "sweetness" on the end.
Full on hops all over the place with a nice dry finish and a warming in the back of the throat.
Overall a great DIPA. Any hop head should love this beer, which I am and I do.
