Powder Day IPAPowder Day IPA
Notes: Powder Day Double Dry-Hopped IPA. We started dry-hopping, and it snowballed into a full-on powder day. Notes of citrus, stone fruit, and melon pile high in a blizzard of lupulin powder.

I had this on tap at a World of Beer in Tampa. Our daughter took us there, but she stuck with the ciders.
The beer is a clear brassy color with a small white head and some lacing.
Aroma of citrus and pine
Taste of orange and pine, over a malt background.
A very easy to drink beer.

It is funny how names of beers can influence our perception of what to expect. Reading the name "powder day" - for some reason I just assumed this would be a hazy IPA, but it is not! It pours a mostly clear bright bronze color. Nice effervescence in my glass feeds a thin sudsy white head. Head lingers, but does gradually dissipate leaving a thin layer of foam on top of the beer. Aroma has notes of orange, clementine, citrus, with some light pine and green hop notes.

Taste follows the nose with notes of orange, clementine, citrus, pine and a nice malty backbone. there is a mild bitterness that is nicely balanced. Feel is medium bodied, smooth, with mild carbonation.

Overall it's a really nice DDH IPA - I would drink this any day.

12 oz can, dated 12/15/21. Pours slightly hazy amber orange with a huge rocky white head that retains well a leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sweet tropical fruit with some resiny hops.

The flavor is some sweet wheat malt with a little lemoney fruit and a grassy slightly astringent, bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation and a bit watery.

Overall, looks and smells good, but it's thin and subdued in the flavors.

Very nice offering from one of the OG's in the craft world. Great taste. As in most Sierra offerings, this beer also, has great balance. The alcohol is well hidden for a 7.7 % abv.

CAN
Pale amber with a stack of fluffy head; candied orange, fresh hop leaf + dried pineapple on the nose; tangerine juice, mango, cantaloupe, apricots, touches of lemon boiled sweets + mint, weedy edge, and light pine to end; salty, clean, light bitterness

4 4.25 4 4 4

Amarillo, Chinook, Comet, Citra, Herkules, Idaho 7, Mosaic, Polaris

Dec 2nd canning - just passed 6 weeks old, which is pretty fresh for a Transatlantic import.
And it shows: there’s a ton of hop stuff going on here. (Not sure why you’d need 8 of ‘em, but I won’t question the outcome.)
There’s a ton of fruit without ever cloying or even slowing you down, the IBUs are restrained for something Cali, odd speckles of Polaris oil, Comet lemongrass, and I7 wildness keep it interesting, there’s zero sign of 7.7%, and underneath is the clean drinkability that is Chico yeast.
The most impressive thing is there’s no one dominating note: yes, there’s citrus - it’s Sierra - but it doesn’t lead; Mosaic mango yet you wouldn’t call it tropical - this is a true fruit salad beer.

Loved Atomic Torpedo, too - SN are knocking it out of the park lately.

Pours an effervescent gold with 2+ fingers of cream colored head. Good head retention & better lacing

S: Oranges, lemons

T: Oranges, passion fruit, guava, plus Kiwi Fruit up front, plus a little dryness. Orange, lime & bready dryness as this warms, plus grassy notes. Finishes with a flourish of citrus, grassyness & little bit of grassy hops

MF: Medium body, pretty firm carbonation, good balance

Great drinkability, interest hops combo, not great, but good, would consider buying again

Pours a light copper color with a finger of head. The nose has notes of both citrus and pine. The flavor profile follows the nose with a pretty potent piney bitterness on the finish. The body is not quite hearty but it's certainly burlier than average for this style.

Powder Dry pours a smooth color and a fine head. Smells like a beer fart. Originally. I called it funky butt, but it tastes some funky but it grows on you so give it a chance. Have at least two. I liked it after a while but that's not unusual for IPAs. I'd give Sierra-Nevada the benefit of the doubt and buy a six pack. I did and I'm glad I did. Try some Powder Day IPA.

From a 12oz can dated 11/24/21 into a pint glass.

Pours a translucent golden yellow with a bout three fingers of white head. Several steady streams of bubbles rise from the bottom. Incredible retention. moderate lacing

Smells mainly of pine, dank earth, light onions and herbals.

Some sweet citrus in the taste. Pine and earth also present. Bitterness throughout.

Slightly sticky mouthfeel. Maybe just a bit thin bodied. Bitter aftertaste. Low carbonation. Pretty easy drinking.

This is a very enjoyable brew and quite different than SN's other IPAs. Winner.

Bought at Liquor Shed, canned December 4th 2021.

It pours a clear gold with an excellent and long lasting head of foam.

Grapefruit and some piney hops notes with a definite smell of dry hopping.

Nice grapefruit bitterness in the taste. Hints of tropical fruit, cracker malt, dry hopped for sure. When I mentioned bitterness, it isn't very bitter at all, very smooth blend of tastes.

Good mouthfeel, very good IPA.

L- Pours a nice golden color. Lingering white head with good lacing on the glass.
S- Big citrus, melon, stonefruit
T- Lots of citrus upfront, slight maltiness on the back end. Leaves a classic IPA bitterness in your mouth
F- Slightly creamy, full mouthfeel
O- Worth a try, will be a hit for some and a miss for others

Pours a beautiful golden color with the slightest bit of suspended hop haze and a clingy, substantial oatmeal colored head. This is the classic old school WCIPA look that I love. Dank citrus nose, at least for me because I’m drawn to those aromas, and there’s also the stone fruit and melon mentioned in the description of this beer.

The citrus is forward on the taste, with my palate picking up tangerine and grapefruit flavors, and there’s also a substantial berry note, which is absolutely delicious, and the melon and some malt sweetness at the back of the palate for balance.

The mouthfeel is medium, fairly bright, and very dry, perfect for the WCIPA style. There’s a lot going on with this beer, but at its core, it’s a full bodied, flavorful WCIPA that I’ll keep in my beer fridge on the regular if it’s added to the SN lineup on a regular basis.

Appearance: Pours a clear, medium deep orange color with a moderate white head. SRM of 11. (3.75)

Aroma: Moderate aromas of orange and tangerine upfront. Then there's dank melon and herbs. Mosaic melon/berry mixes with the dank herbs and grass on the end.

Flavor: Strong flavors of orange, tangerine, and herbal and dank grassy notes mixed with honeydew melon. Smooth and somewhat malty and sweet finish to cleanse the bitterness. Mild bitterness.

Feel: Medium to heavier bodied. Low to moderate carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel.

Compared to Sierra Nevada's Hazy Little Thing 1/16/22: Pours a darker color. Milder aromas. More dank herbs/grass, tangerine, and honeydew melon. Less lemon citrus, pine, and pine flower & soap notes.

Compared to 56 Brewing SSippi Squeeze IPA 1/20/22: Pours a darker and clearer color. Stronger head. Stronger aromas. More resinous orange, tangerine, melon, and dank grassy notes. Bigger and sweeter.

Overall: A pretty good and flavorful IPA here. Nice tangerine, but then a definitely herbal and earthy dank note that is the flagship of this beer. It dissolves away as the beer warms. The tangerine and balance of "green and brown" which is a mix of tropical tangerine and honeydew mixed with green herbs and dank earth. Both of these combine into this beer to make it a nice winter IPA. I usually don't think of winter IPAs as a thing, but this is that. (Final Rating: 3.90)

Really, really classic ipa. And absolutely no flaws. SN is talented with classic, clean beer. No particular rating point is mind blowing but overall the quality and lack of flaws really makes this beer a stellar 4.5 (if not maybe better).

It's eerily similiar to SNPA with how perfectly it represents the style.

Really like this beer as it is a dry, bitter, IPA, like they should be brewed. A cleaner and drier Celebration. I however, hate the name. It reminds me of my recent trip to the West Coast when the local TV news referred to the recent snow as "Pow Pow". I hate you! desert dwelling hamsters.

12oz can pkg dated 12/2/21 into a 16oz pint glass.
L: Pours a lightly yeast hazed deep gold/light amber with a 2" dark eggshell white creamy head with very good retention. Random sticky skeletal lacing and banding.
S: Floral, citrusy: mainly orange rind, melon rind and light pine. Fairly tropical overall. A hind of bread. A trace of alcohol as the beer warms.
T: Gentle citrus, melon rind, orange zest, orange pith, light yeast, yellow bread, pale malts, subtle caramel notes. A masterful balance of sweetness & bitterness. No taste of alcohol. The refined bitterness is broad within the finish.
F: Semi-sharp, semi-juicy med-bodied mouthfeel with a med-length finish and a semi-long linger. It is somewhat drying with a delicately soft, creamy and agreeable overall feel.
O: A zesty, affable and expertly crafted DDHIPA that is easy drinking, quenching and refreshing. It has the central axis taste that is emblematic of Sierra Nevada beers and is excellent in it's style.

Canned on 12/7/21. 12oz can poured into a tulip.

Pours golden with nice clarity and transparency; fluffy white head that falls leaving great retention and sticky lacing.

The aromas have hints of citrus and floral notes. Some crackers and fresh bread. Some caramel. Malts are there.

The flavors basically follow the nose for the most part. More floral notes along with some grapefruit. More caramel. More crackers and fresh bread. Hints of rye and black pepper in the mix. Solid bitterness. Subtle sweetness. Malts do their thing. Finishes dry. Alcohol is well hidden.

Mouthfeel is nice. It's medium-bodied with active carbonation. It's sharp, fluffy, smooth and slightly creamy.

This is a decent IPA. It's nothing too crazy, but it's still enjoyable and fun to drink. It's a traditional and straightforward IPA. It's clean, crisp and refreshing. The craftsmanship is on point. Not bad at all.
