Notes:
Powder Day Double Dry-Hopped IPA. We started dry-hopping, and it snowballed into a full-on powder day. Notes of citrus, stone fruit, and melon pile high in a blizzard of lupulin powder.
Malt: Munich, Two-row Pale, Wheat
Hops: Amarillo, Chinook, Comet, Citra, Herkules, Idaho 7, Mosaic, Polaris

Pours like you would expect for a west coast style IPA. I get some citrusy sweetness on the nose, maybe a bit of pineapple juice too. The sip follows, with more pine and pith on a drying finish. All around solid beer.

Draft at Frederick Social in Frederick, MD. Pours a slightly hazy deep gold with a substantial, persistent off-white head. Initial impression is a somewhat sweet, malty, smooth and eminently drinkable IPA. Slightly sweeter that SN's Pale Ale, but I count that as a positive. YMMV. Finish is clean with a lingering sweetness. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable and eminently drinkable AIPA from SN.

Pours a gold color, clear with a white head. Well balanced flavor, malt upfront with a citrus bitterness on the finish. A good IPA

A: Pours with slightly hazy, that clears up after a minute, a bronze/orange color. A two finger white head forms with good retention and lace.
S: Plenty of citrus and pine. A bit resin like, and some sweetness in there. Fairly similar to their Pale Ale, which isn't a bad thing, just doesn't distinguish itself.
T: Like the nose, plenty of citrus, grapefruit and pine. Resin like, with a hefty does of malty sweetness, and lingering bitterness.
M/O: A medium body with good carbonation. Crisp and smooth at the same time, that finishes clean. Which makes this easy enough to drink. I can definitely come back to this.
This is a nice IPA, and spot on for a Sierra Nevada offering. Though thats the thing for me, its almost toooo spot on for a Sierra Nevada, as I probably couldn't tell the difference between this and their regular Pale Ale. This might have a bit more pronounced bitterness, but thats about it. I love Pale Ale, and get it all the time. So, as I do enjoy this, and can see why others really like it, it doesn't justify itself to me when I prefer Pale Ale. But thats like my opinion, and slight preference. Nothing more, people should be enjoying this as well. Even if I find it as just a variation on a theme.

A - Pours a pale orange body, clear, with a short white head, decent lacing.
S - Pungent pine with citrus notes below, grass and resin, and a bit of zest and pith.
T - Follows the nose, but with a subtle limestone earthiness, and a dry pith-oriented bitterness in the finish.
M - Decent carbonation, dry drinker, and a subtle build of resin on the tongue.
O - Lovely dry drinker, fun IPA that sticks a good balance between fruit and bitterness.

Throwing every hop variety available toward the brew kettle, its easy to think that Sierra Nevada has nothing left in their tank. But reserving just enough for a double dry hopping regimen to the conditioning phase gives their strong, but not imperial strength, IPA all the hoppy goodness that we'd ever want.
Hazy and milky straw, Powder Day takes on proportions of hazier IPA, equipped with a rich and white meringue. A radiant bouquet of tangy, under ripened and nearly teeth churning tropical aromas roll from the rim while a creamy sweetness of cereal, agave and floral honeysuckle coat the tongue.
Rife with fruit flavors, the middle palate dominates with the racy taste of lemon, lime, pink grapefruit, orange and a hint of cream candy for a balanced and rounded attack of the tastebuds. A quick followup of passionfruit, papaya, white peach and guava offer hints of both stone fruit and tropical varieties in a tropical punch kind of way. Wrapped in a soft juiciness of honeydew and cream, the late taste remains rounded with succulent fruit while trending spicy with fresh spruce, green tea, verbena, sassafras and mint with botanical gin-like warmth.
Medium bodied but creamy and rounded, the beer's bold strength still allows for a high sense of refreshment, drinkability and flavor impact with a medium-long aftertaste of cereal and spruce.

Attractive amber brew with generous white foam in the Troubadour tulip. Spritzy and mellow on the tongue. Crisp and tangy but not acidic. Abundant aromatics with light citrus and something tropical. "Double dry hopped," says the label, and whatever hop it is, rules. Just enough sweetness, cereal malt flavor, mango, and a kiss of pine. Just enough bitterness and more than enough friendliness.
I got a six pack of the 12 oz cans and have been working through it for weeks, having too many oddities to taste, and but I look forward every time to opening a Powder Day. I should just get a six of these SN seasonals every time I see one and at least have an antidote to the snakebite IPAs that infest these parts. Dated 12/17/21.

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellowish amber in color and has a high amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high off white head that has good retention properties and never completely faded away.
S: Moderate aromas of orange citrus are present in the nose along with hints of honeydew melon.
T: The taste follows the smell, except that the flavors of melon are stronger and there are additional hints of stone fruit. The hops contribute a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied and crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The taste of this beer has a nice complexity between the different flavors.

I got a can of this beer off the single shelf from the Woodman's in Onalaska, Wisconsin just outside of La Crosse. It poured a clear golden with thin white head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had fresh floral and fruit hop notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bright fruit !nd subtle pine presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body and had good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

Pours a bright, clear amber, with a decent white and some nice lacing. Very aromatic, citrus, orange rind and some grapefruit and hint of pine. Citrus leads the way on flavor, some sweet malt in the middle, mildly hoppy finish. I expected more. Medium bodied, lingering carbonation. Nice beer, but I prefer Torpedo.

Powder Day IPA
Sierra Nevada
Date: 12/17/2021
Many years ago, I tried the SNPA and thought, holy shit, this mother is hoppy. Looking back, I realized my baptism into the hop world. I started with the OG Ruination then moved to SNPA; both are the gold standard. The beer is 42 degrees and served in a tulip glass. The pour created a frothy and airy off-white head with excellent retention. The slow dissipation left gobs of lacing on the glass. The color charts around SRM 10, amber with golden yellow hues. The clarity is clear with a few carbonation bubbles dancing lazily.
Light pine, grapefruit, orange peels, earthiness, and floral esters make up the initial whiff of the beer. Nosing the glass further, I detect bready sweet malts, a lightly toasted bread, and a subtle pineapple. The hops and the malt are just about balanced in the aromas.
The hop profile is grassy, floral esters, pineapple, mangos, a hint of herbal, mandarin oranges, and a touch of floral. The malts are lightly toasted with biscuit and bready (probably from the yeast).
The mouthfeel is somewhat tannic and bitter. The body is medium, medium carbonation, and quick finish.
I feel the dry-hop was not potent enough to elevate this beer to excellence. I prefer SNPA to this beer.

It arrived in a nearly full clear pint glass, just after being drawn from a tap. A tidy just off-white head on top seems to be enduring. The color is a bright light copper-amber that's not very opaque. In short, it has the classic IPA look. For having some wheat in the wort, the look is promising, as there's no fluffy starched white head. There's also plenty of malt to the aroma, along with the hops. The taste and mouthfeel run dry and it's missing a little of the malt backbone that helps make a great IPA. That may be the dry hopping, or the additional lupulin. A substantial amount of thorough glass lacing is now evident. With the hops present from the onset through the finish, this one drinks consistently rather than exercising the taste buds with changes. The hops are omnipresent, but also somewhat tempered. In a unique way, they're pronounced without being overly bitter. They're neither fruity, nor piney and they finish cleanly. This is obviously a well-crafted and good tasting brew, but it doesn't bring much character.
