Rich, caramelly wet hop ale, with some pine and spice notes, but, honestly, one that I would've appreciated more with perhaps less caramel malt and more room for those big fresh hops to shine.

2016 version about three months old poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a nonic glass. Pours deep tan and a quickly dissipating white head of about three fingers. It shows lacing and some retention. Smell is fruity, citrus, and slightly dank. The flavor follows the nose with an excellent malt balance, although that may be more pronounced because of the age. There is a nice, lingering hoppy bitterness on the finish. The mouthfeel is heavily carbonated with some nice, thick oily feel. Overall a great, easy-to-drink beer I'll be seeking out every year.

L: Burnt orange, copper colored beer. Very mild haze, nearly opaque, though definitely not turbid.
S: Light aroma, malts are somewhat doughy with cereal character. Hops are herbacious and resinous on the nose, slightly piney.
T: Has a bitter punch up front. Hits hard but finishes soft. Combo pine and grapefruit bitterness. Malts on the finish with biscuit character. Actually quite nice flavor.
F: A bit heavy, and not quite an easy drinker. I think the body plus the bitter bite upfront take away from drinkability a bit. That being said flavor is great and has nice balance. Great malt presence.
O: Absolutely a beer I would revisit. Will look out for it next time its fresh in stores.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. packaged 9/28/16, so a little over 2 months old.

superb clear yellow amber body. thick off white head. excellent lacing.

faintly hoppy on the nose wit a slight mustiness.

very bitter. some grapefruit and piney flavors. decent malt background gives a hint of sweetness.

above medium on the mouth. tingly bitter grapefruit finish.

overall, an enjoyable drink. might be a bit too bitter for a session.
