Poured into a mug. this one pours a clear golden color with lots of visible carbonation and about two inches of a pillowy white head.

Toasty grains on the nose with a bit of a yeasty background. Some hints on spicy hops in the back ground with a bit of citrus zest lingering. Lots of cracker malt flavors on the pallet with a big bitter finish. Floral notes with a doughy presence.

Medium body with medium soft carbonation. A bit heavier than I would prefer my pils to be.

Overall this one is enjoyable. Certainly a unique hop character. Certainly worth trying.

Recently released as part of SN's 2012 "Beer Camp" craft pack. (Noticed that the abv is 5.60%, not 6.00%)

Poured from a bottle into a pilsner glass.

A - Crystal clear straw yellow with a 3/4 finger head of white fizz that disipated rapidly. Decent lacing of the smallest, finest, white bubbles.

S - Minimal aroma of yeast, and spicy hop. A tiny bit of citrus rind. Not much to write home about here; smells like a pilsner.

T - Very rich pilsner taste; Saltine cracker-like malt, and spicy hops up front. Hint of citrus rind in the nose present in the mid-palate. Bit of fresh cut grass in the finish. Extremely well balanced all the way through. Zero "off flavors" of stale yeast/piss that I have previously associated with many pilsners, and the overall flavor has a lot of depth.

M - Nice medium body with lively carbonation. This is where the "imperial" part comes in, as it's "fuller" than any other pils I have had. Impressive.

O - A VERY well put together pils by SN, and it murders their Summerfest. Coming from a guy that really isnt the biggest pilsner fan...I loved it. This honestly might take the title for best "hot day" beer I have sampled.

Another nice looking Sierra beer. Pours a bright and light gold color with a big bright white head. Good lacing too.

Aromas are spicy, floral, and doughy. Pretty typical pilsner nose.

Taste is grainy, doughy, spicy, with light creamy malt flavors. Finish is crisp, dry, floral and somewhat bitter.

Mouthfeel is smooth and full, on the heavy side, but it works here.

Overall, a pretty good Pils. A bit heavy, but it's certainly quite flavorful.

On-tap at Taps Brea

This beer was brewed by the Taps brewing team at Sierra Nevada's Beer Camp. It's a pils that makes (generous) use of New Zealand hop varieties.

A: The pour is clear golden straw in color with a couple of fingers of white head.

S: A very nice citrus hop aroma is immediately noticeable. Big time lemon and lemon zest with some nice grapefruit. A bit of a pale malt aroma, perhaps some pine, and a little bit of yeast.

T: Starts off with an almost candied lemon flavor. A hint of soap along with the intense citrus flavors. A fair amount of pine which gives a nice bitterness to the beer. Mild bread and pale malts.

M: Medium in body and perhaps low-medium in carbonation.

O: At first I thought this was some random German beer they had as a guest tap, but this was quite nice. Taps stepping it up with three pretty solid lagers on this trip.
