This is the beer I was most looking forward to in the Beer Camp mix pack. Ghidorah was getting some nice praise around Cleveland Beer Week last year.
The beer looks unfiltered, a subdued burnt orange color. Short head of stale yellowed hues. Lacing is not bad, but I can't imagine it will run the course of this entire glass.
Smells very herbal, grassy, and funky. Recently my tasting group has been discussing the merits of simcoe hops and their distinctive "cat piss" attributes. I am not entirely convinced there's simcoe used here, but it is certainly similar.
The taste is very bitter. Pine leading into bitter grapefruit pithiness.
The mouthfeel is quite coating, and lingers for ages, the bitterness lasting the entire time. Carbonation is on the low side, but the body is pretty full for a DIPA.
Overall not bad, but honestly just slightly above average in the DIPA category. I feel let down a bit, but perhaps it's because SN is best known for its IPA's and hoppy beers. I think that either I was expecting some outstanding hoppy brews in this pack, or more varried, malt-driven styles...

Looks like standard double ipa, copper color, almost a full inch of white head on the top. Aroma was a bit of a letdown, the dry hopping just didn't pop on it.
The taste is what SN is so well renowned for. Ample caramel malt base that avoids sweetness, but provides a solid backdrop for a lot of old school hops. Has a lot of the flavors I was hoping to find in the aroma (citrus, tropical fruit). Solid stuff.

2011 vintage, so rating adjusted to current average.
Grapefruit and resin are prevalent, with notes of peach, light caramel malt, and a touch of cardboard oxidation.
Flavor reveals more cardboard throughout, with muted citrus notes of tangerine and grapefruit, reminiscent of sweettarts, leading to a moderately bitter, resiny finish.
Held up well, minus the oxidation notes. Exacerbates the bitterness too much for my liking.
