On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad.

Poured out a brown color. Darker than your average brown I guess. Thin head, almost no lace.

Aroma was somewhat hoppy, the peppercorns really do stand out here, both in the aroma and especially the taste.

The taste was definitely as advertised: rye, hops (Cascade seemed most prominent) and peppercorns. The spice was forward, but not heavy. Same for the hopping. Bitterness was above average. Plenty bready.

A decent option. I wouldn't say its better than Ruthless Rye, but its close. They really aren't significantly different.

Brown color, weird that it didn't produce hardly any head, Sierra Nevada beers are usually pretty. Then again, I guess this was a homebrew recipe, maybe that has something to do with it, I dunno. Aroma of hops and peppercorn.

Taste of C hops, peppercorn and rye. Like Ruthless without the peppercorns, which do obscure the hopping a bit in the mouthfeel.

Rye ale with black peppercorns. On tap at Pizza Port OB. Amber brown in the pint glass with a decent foam. Not an IPA, so you get to taste the interesting grainy rye. Distinctly bitter but not a frontal assault. A slightly sweet malty flavort softens the edge. Distinctive bready yet hoppy flavor.

I keep thinking of something like caraway seeds with an herbal taste. A really drinkable and flavorful brew. The classic rye flavor without a lot of distractions. Even the pepper is quite restrained and seems to meld with the grain pretty well. I would look to try this again but it may be a singularity. According to Paramount Cafe in Denver, two of their staff were invited to make the beer in Chico from their recipe.

On Tap at Monkey Paw, 11/10/11. This is a rye ale with peppercorns.

A-Pour is amber, clear with a thin off white head and good sticky lacing.

S-Grainy malt with hints of black pepper.

T-Malty with black pepper notes and moderate hops. Flavor could be bolder.

M-Light to medium bodied.

O-Solid but not as peppery or as strong in rye character as I would like.
