12 ounce bottle -> Sierra Nevada balloon glass

This beer pours up an amazing crystal clear deep copper with a nice light tan head about one finger in height, decent retention, and large amounts of delicate and elaborate lacing left on the side of the glass. The smell is very bready and earthy, with a little hint of spiciness. Taste is very satisfying with an initial citrus fruitness follwed by a soicy hop finish. Mouthfeel is neither thick nor thin, but nice and satisfying. If Sierra Nevada makes a bad beer I've yet to have one.

I had this on tap at Patrick Osheas in Louisville, KY poured into a Irish Pint Glass.

A - Very frothy tremendous head. Head lasted a full 10-15 minutes which i found to be a negative. Copper color.
S - Smells like a lot of hops Not sure of the IBU but I think it would be high. Very good dose of citrus and pepper.
T - Taste of carmel. I may be off but I don't taste any rye. I may be confusing the bitterness in for some of the rye taste. Again tastes like high IBU.
M - The bitter taste stays with you all the way down your throat and into the proceeding nest few minutes.
O - Descent IPA. I wish I could decipher the rye more- but that might be my own fault. I would order this again.

I am generally a big fan of rye beers, so when I saw this at the store today, I had to pick up a sixer of this. Pours clear and amber in color with a foamy, rocky white head with shades of caramel. Very nice lacing and the head retention is pretty nice as well.

Aromas are great. Certainly the spicy rye comes through and that is followed by citrus and floral hops. Sweet maltiness and caramel add some complexity to the aroma. I enjoy the slight musty smell this one presents also.

One thing about Sierra Nevada is they sure as hell know how to make some great IPAs. Flavor is packed with a spicy punch and bitterness that lingers on the palate just long enough. Finishes dry after about 30 seconds leaving the tongue unsatisfied and slaking for more nectar. Floral in character with a very nice citrus presence, but the rose hips seem to be dominating here, and I like it.

Another great beer from Sierra Nevada. Without a doubt, these guys make the best beer for the price in the world. Spicy, floral, slightly tangy, medium body, and delicious!

2013 Batch opened on 1.27.13

A - Pours a clear reddish-orange with a huge foamy cream-colored head with great retention.

S - Malty, biscuity, bread, slight carmel, oranges.

T - Smooth toasted malt, bread, orange, slight grass in the finish.

D - Smooth, good carbonation with a medium body.

O - Smooth malt forward and some citrus for balance. Better than I remembered the 2012 batch.
