Copper, creamy head, nose of fresh hops grass and horse blanket, unsmoked pot, hay, deliciously unique aroma. Flavor is creamy, peppery, fresh hop, but not too intense. Full malt backbone. Light fruit and caramel, a unique IPA, very delicious, I'll drink quite a few more of these before summer. How this larger craft brewery keeps pounding out these awesome beers is beyond me.

I was not expecting to find this at the local grocery store, but there it was. I had never heard of it before, but I deeply appreciate the drinkability of Sierra Nevada's offerings.

Poured a deep, beautiful amber into a S.A. anniversary glass. A nice head and thick rings of lacing down the entire length of the glass.

Tons of rye to the nose. Immediately, I got hops on the palate. Then the rye followed through, lots of it, by the bottom of the glass thats what I was getting. The mouthfeel felt really good to me, with ample carbonation. A little too much rye for me by the end, but overall a very good offering from Sierra Nevada.

This beer didn't disappoint, it poured a deep copper color with a very rich frothy head, long lasting lace clung for the entire 12 oz. serving.Smell of fresh grass, bread and citrus. Nice alchohol viscosity. Super malted, hoppy flavour with a hint of the rye. This I will try again.

Appearance: Pours dark copper with creamy white head. Looks delectable, especially the juxtaposition of the deep amber and fluffy, creamy head. Great lacing down the glass.

Smell: Hoppy, mainly pine and a bit of citrus, up front, with lots of peppery spiciness and bready malt coming through. Nice. Not just a Pale Ale, the rye actually comes through a good bit.

Taste: Up front there is a good mix of bitter hoppiness and rye spiciness. It is seriously almost like rye bread beer. While there do not seem to be many more flavors than this dynamic going on, it is very enjoyable. Rye really shines more than any other rye beer I have had, which is neat.

Mouthfeel: Pleasant, thicker body than usual. Really great feel and carbonation that is very smooth.

Overall: Probably the most rye beer I have had yet. But if classified as an IPA, it seems lacking compared to many others in the style. The good use of rye sets it apart from most, but does not necessarily make it better than them. Still a great beer.

Poured into a tulip glass.

A- Immediately reminds you it's a SN beer with a nose of citrus hops, like the Torpedo. I assume this is the Citra. Spice notes from the Rye come through as well.

A-Dark amber pouring brilliantly clear. Slight off white head.

F- Nice complement of the rye spice along with the strong bitter forward IPA character I associate with SN. This IPA, like Torpedo, seems to be more about bitterness with a crispness that you often don't get in other west coast IPAs with their huge charges of hops late or as dry hops. This actually helps make the beer more drinkable for me, which is a good thing.

M- Average carbonation. Plenty of body.

O- A great twist on a hugely trendy style. I really like the spice character the rye adds to this beer. It sets it apart from the hoards of IPAs out there. I'm a fan boy of the brewery and this just ups my love a little bit higher.

Poured from the bottle into a mug.

A- deep copper-brown color with a fluffy, white head that retained two fingers for several minutes.

S- Maybe it's just me but I didn't pick up a lot in the smell department. A bit of spicy bread perhaps.

T- One of the best-tasting beers I've had out of a bottle. Wonderful semi-sweet malts at the front remind of chocolate-chip pancakes. Peppery spice emerges, then the piney hops come in at the end with notes of fruit (black cherry?).

M- On the thick side, it hangs on to your tongue, which helps to release the complex taste at a moderate pace. Lingers. Not highly carbonated.

O- Very good beer. Big and complex, yet drinkable. Bargain at $14.99 for 12.

Pours a deep copper with a generous white head that lasts for a long time and leaves good spider web lacing on the glass. The aroma is of grains, some citrus, and piney hops. Taste is sweet malt with a hint of roast present and keeping things in balance with solid hop bitterness. Palate is medium.
