From a bottle dated 7/19/12. The label says it should age well for several years. I heard it was really wild when first released. I t definitely calmed down. It has a funky Band-Aid taste.

Tenth year anniversary release from 2022, apparently bottled in 2012.

Mellow but enticing, I wouldn't have guessed this was ten years old. The cork shot out with dangerous velocity and the carbonation hasn't dropped off at all. I get pear, vanilla, mild hay, and faint Brett. I remember hearing about this way back but never saw it, glad to have tried this release.

This did not age well. I've sat on this bottle for about 5 years and it had zero carbonation, no aroma on the nose, it was very dry and thin bodied. No lemon or pear notes, mostly oaky wood and not much more. This bottle was stored well and the cork was extremely secure and just didn't produce anything that excited me. Sadness is when you properly cellar a beer that says on the label, "this ale will progress in the bottle for many years." I must have waited too long :(

Tried in 2021 after cellaring since 2012. Sour nose as expected however not as sour in taste. Good aged balanced beer. Superb product after aging. Do it.
Tried in 2023 after cellaring since 2012. Think it might be too long.

2012 bottle purchased at brewery.
Bottle courtesy of Pstone530.
Dark cloudy copper. Fizzy head.
Smells of pear, candied sugar, oak.
Tastes same with a little tart brett on the tail end. Estery. Belgian-esque.
Fairly dry. Decent carbonation.
Fairly good. Obviously old. Probably cellared properly since recently purchased from brewery. Would prefer a bit more tartness than sweetness.

From notes 2/18/13: Pours a clear coppery amber bubbling with carbonation which produces a huge and aggressive, moderately lasting, finely bubbled, off-white head that leaves a patchy wash of lace. Aroma is thin white bread, hints of Belgian yeast funk, hay, floral (daffodil like) and a hint of green apple. Taste is sour throughout with a hint of sweetness at the start, Belgian yeast mustiness that is faintly Brett like, green grapes, vinous, acidic and dry with an astringency in the still sour but short-lived aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy bodied, lively carbonation, crisp, dry and chalky but creamy and almost chewy.

This beer pours a translucent, bright, amber color. A gentle pour and attempt at decanting the beer yields a massive off white head that eventually settles down to a half finger. Infinite streams of carbonation are rising up from the bottom of my tulip glass. No lacing.

A fruity and slightly spicy, phenolic nose. Freshly zested lemon and lime. That acidic note of the fruit, but complemented nicely by the sweetness of the zest. A lot of dried apricot and white raisin. Slight skunkiness, crackery, hay, spicy and herbal, some dry white wine notes, and an ever so faint, barely detectable, not even sure if its there, manure. Overall a nice aroma that hits the bright, fresh, sweet and sour and herbal aspects. Fruit forward with spicy phenols as well. Prickly carbonation. Drying. I am really enjoying this beer. There is enough going on to keep it interesting. It is easily drinkable 8.3%ABV. It is not an overpowering Brett beer. More along the lines of Orval.

6th anniversary re-release. Bottle purchased from Mills River Brewery in July 2018.

Mojito glass. Sudsy, cream-colored head. Cloudy, peach tea pour.

Floral, cherry pit, sight vinegar & bitter herb nose.

Taste is bitter booze, faintly fruity, thin, very leathery, cherry skin, aspirin. Lightly oxidized malt.

Yes, it tastes like an old beer. What did you expect?

pours a murky, bright copper with a thin head that completely disappears within seconds. nose; odd... musty fruit, chamomile, & dusty furniture. taste; belgian yeast, grain, under ripe pear, band-aid/brett, a dying pile of grass clippings, & light ethanol. low carbonation & medium mouthfeel. a tamed, mellow brett ale that has some odd herbal/floral character. doesn't have the typical pungent kick, tartness or heavy fruit that most wild ales have; an anemic puzzler of a beer. not my style.

I had this 6 May 2015, bottle aged in the basement 2 years. Despite the boring appearance, in character, this is a phenomenal wild ale, one of the best I've had.

Aroma is wonderful funky/rustic quality of soured pears, grass, wet hay - rich and pungent

Taste is wonderful, also - balanced, well rounded, not too tart or dry, some sweetness; grass, hay, sour pears, stewed fruits, spice, lemon, rustic barnyard character overall. Simply a balanced, yet complex and characterful beer , not dry and characterless as many are.

My first review is long overdue. I met the Alstrom brothers in Boston around 1999 shortly after they launched Beer Advocate. Been a fan here ever since. Guess I’ve had this bottle about 6 years. Well carbonated, a little funk in the aroma, a bit musty flavor and on the sweet side for the style. Wish it was more sour but this is pretty good.

One of the 1st beers I started my "cellar" with. Probably a bit past it's prime. Less flavorful but nicely carbed. Hint of apple, Belgian yeast esters, a tiny bit of Brett. Creamy feel. Extremely short finish. This is a very domesticated wild ale but it's pleasant.

Reviewed July 2017. This bottle may well be 5 years old.

Beautiful brew: golden-orange, clear with just a tiny hint of cloudiness; head production is strong but restrained for an aged Bret ale.

Aroma is lightly musty and fruity, and barely tart. Pears, light bananas, flowers, and a dusty, aged sense to it all. Any noticeable lemon/citrus notes have faded to nothing more than a memory.

Dry and drinkable. The 8.3% ABV shows in the body, but there's no heat whatsoever.

This is a delightful treat. I would like to have tried it fresh as well, but given the choice, I'm glad I had it aged. It's far more reminiscent of the gueuzes of Belgium than the sours of the US, although it's missing some of the acidity and funk of the former (and all of the sour of the latter). Grab this if you're in the mood for a light, slightly sweet and malty gueuze.

Delicate on the palate, with many of the same notes as the aroma. Lightly honeyed bread, crisp apples, funky cheese, and a touch of acidity. The Brett has left a strong influence, but it's nowhere
