Pale orange color with a soda like head that leaves a ring of foam clinging to the glass. Lots of bubbles rising to the top.

Fruity, earthy aroma with hints of white pepper and a mild funk.

Flavor follows the nose pretty well. Prominent orange and apricot. Mild spices. Not too sour but has a pleasant funky character. Subtle herbal hop. Well balanced.

Medium, bordering on full-bodied. High carbonation.

Overall, pretty good. Nice funky notes but I would enjoy a little bit more sour character from the Brettanomyces.

A 750ml bottle with no visible BB date. Purchased some time last year from Trembling Madness in York. The label describes it as a Belgian-style ale refermented with Brettanomyces bruxellensis.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned. A bright orange-amber hue with fine sediment and plentiful carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a thin surface layer.

S: Aroma of funky yeast esters with hints of tart yeast, hay, barnyard funk, apples, pears, white pepper, dry spice, a touch of lemon, earthiness and faint stewed leaves. A whiff of solventy booze in the background. Very nice.

T: Tastes of sharp, funky yeast esters with a bone-dry finish. Notes of tart yeast, barnyard aromas, hay, earthiness, mould, green apples, faint apricots, dry spice, mild white pepper, lemon and stewed leaves. A twinge of alcohol in the background. Very highly attenuated, followed by a leafy bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and exceptionally dry, with effervescent carbonation and good body for the style. Dries the palate thorougly. Intensely astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of sour, funky yeast esters, fruitiness, stewed leaves and booze.

O: Boom - a brett bomb! Funky and complex, not to mention drier than a desert. Looks great, while the aroma and flavour are amazingly yeasty with hints of tart fruitiness. Pretty boozy but generally well balanced. Mouthfeel is lovely - fizzy and dry. Resembles a well-aged Orval in character, with plenty of brett influence. A worthy brew that goes where other beers don't - give it a whirl if you have the chance.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled in late spring 2012. Pours fairly crystal clear golden orange color with a 1-2 finger foamy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of bright lemon, tangerine, pineapple, peach, pear, apple, white pepper, hay, straw, grass, candi sugar, bread, light musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy yeast and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of lemon, tangerine, pineapple, peach, pear, apple, white pepper, hay, straw, grass, candi sugar, bread, light musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy/peppery spiciness with slight tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, tangerine, pineapple, peach, pear, apple, white pepper, hay, straw, grass, light musty funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Very nice nice complexity and robustness of fruity/funky/spicy yeast and moderate pale malt flavors; with a very crisp malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderately dry on the finish as well. High carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and moderately prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with no warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Brett Belgian pale ale. All around good complexity and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast and moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

A) 3.50 Cloudy and dusky gold. Small head and not much glass decoration

S) 3.90 Lots of funks wood. Notes of pear, grape, pale malt and light overall sourness. Horse blanket and vinous The underlying malt dinner roll sweetness lays a nice bed for the yeast and earthy hop counterpoint.

T) 4.10 Since this has been in the bottle for almost two years it has had a bit of a chance to develop. I really like what I have in the glass. Pale malt with all the pear, apple and grape to add sweet light structure. Lots of oak and a bit of light vanilla. Belgian funk lays down a lot of depth. Sharp, pronounced, but delicate bitterness.

M) 3.75 Medium light body has a light crispness and smooth carbonation.

O) 4.0 Great beer for summer food. An excellent alternative to a whit wine. Drier with add grain complexity.

A: Cloudy golden amber with lots of medium and large bubbles rising fast. 3 fingers of yellowish head has a sheen to it like candy glass, and fades moderately fast.

S: Fruity, I get pears and lemons, apricots and peaches, stone fruits galore, a sweet jam jelly component and the tart pectin of sour fruits all at once.

T: A sour fermented pear and nectarine first hits the tongue, followed by fruity apricots and a jam like sweetness that is subdued. A good hit of Belgian yeasts reminding me of a good tripel or farmhouse ale is definitely present. A snow like quality as well.

M: Medium thick body, medium carbonation, dry finish.

O: Amazing brew. Got this in Charlotte, NC, drank in Jacksonville, IL, Aug 11-12th, 2014. Been wanting this one for a while, and finally got my hands on it. My second Russian River Collaboration beer.

A: Clear copper, some loose bubbles and streams rise quickly. Murkier as I approach the end of the bottle. Champaigne-quality head with better retention. Artwork hints towards a retro-70's coloring and font, a little bland, but concise and clear.

S: Wildflower, honey, tart fruit, a bit of spice. Maybe a little of the classic 'malt and yeast' smell.

T: Tartness is all up front, and a little mild; afterwards I get herbacious notes, some yeast, and rounded off with malt. Dry. Yeasty finish. I would prefer more of the tart-sour character to come through, and would expect it seeing from the refermentation with brett. Maybe it needs more aging?

M: Light, dry, prickly. Perfect combinations for a refreshing effect.

O: Pretty darn good, consider my S & T scores to be 3.87- falling just short of getting rounded up to 4. A good mix of flavors and smells, but they somewhat trip over and end up hindering each other. A beer I will always enjoy, despite some minor shortcomings.

picked this one up around the time of the release, but never got around to opening it...until now. enjoyed from a russian river flute/tulip.

a - brew pours a murky orange brown...same as the color scheme on the label. finger of fizzy head half vanishes after the pour and the champagne like carbonation keeps replenishing the fizz that zaps away.

s - nose is nice, leading with crisp brett and some soft lemon notes. tart tingly alcohol phenols tickles the nose. sweet and grassy.

t/m/o - fairly complex leading with some plasticy brett that is quickly washed over by a bright clean vibrant fruity burst and then a dryness sweeps over. the first thing i noticed was the feel which has a prickly carbonation, but a creaminess to it at the same time...similar to authentic belgian stytles. the dryness on the finish is a bit off putting. there is a really nice sweetness in there, but too much other noise that comes with it for this to be a good drinking beer. i'm definitely let down since this is 2 great breweries taking on a style that one would expect to be a slam dunk but sadly doesn't really work. i had heard mixed things about it when it was fresh so i held off and although can't compare to fresh to say if it has improved or not, what i can say is that it is pretty meh for the price point and the players at the table. might not finish the

Had the opportunity to buy this a few weeks ago. It's brewed by sierra nevada and russian river. Let me first start by saying the only way to have this beer is if it has been aged. The guy at the store told me they saved about 30 bottles in the back and let the age for 2 years. This beer had a very complex taste with a sort of "funky" smell to it. I've never had an American Wild Ale before so I don't really know how to compare it to other beers. It's definitely one of the most interesting tasting beers i've ever had. I think most people who review this beer have never let it age, because this is a beer mean to sit around for a while!

Aged for nearly two years, finally decided to uncork this bottle and try this collaboration between Russian River/Sierra Nevada.

Poured from bottle to glass, you can tell the beer has a really nice golden color with hints of orange. It's also just a bit cloudy. The beer is highly carbonated which helps open up the palette once it hits your mouth. There's a really light white head that is nice.

The beer displays some tart notes but it is crisp. There are hints of lemon and other zesty elements. It's a nice sour. Not the best I've ever had but I enjoyed it!

got this bottle from a beer rep

A: small head, whiskey color

Smell: bourbon, funk, farmhouse, alcohol

Taste: whiskey, acidity, slight tart, vanilla, barrel

Mouth-feel: Over carbonated still, rolls down the tough nicely but an acidic burn going down

Overall: Not too impressed considering the breweries that made this brew.

P.S:
30 minutes later, these brew has really opened up. The flavors complement each other perfectly. THIS BEER IS FOR AGING!

Appears a complex light caramel copper note with light beige head forms thick with a lot of lacing...aroma has tart notes of mild citrus hints of bubblegum and apricot with other wild yeast components...domesticated yeast in this sense including Brettanomyces Bruxellensis ferment very clean compared to the thought that some of these beers are going to be full of barnyard and funk, I'll admit Brett has those tendencies but in this well aged bottle I get none of that character. Just highly carbonated pale ale full of some interesting characteristics including honey notes, bubblegum, green apple, and fresh sliced pear notes. Overall the flavor is fantastic a really enjoyable sessionable complex ale in all it's glory I'll include more of those descriptors in the flavor profile, can't wait to try some Crooked Stave ales...a lot of Brett gone wild beers from them.

Brux pours a cloudy golden color, with a nice large long lasting white head. There is a yeasty and very tart aroma. The taste has a nice crisp flavor, with a yeasty flavors, lots of tart notes, and some sourness. Good feel nice contrast from the tart and sweet. Overall a nice complex beer.

An interesting product. The brewers claim a Belgian style ale with Brett. And that is exactly what you get. Very very drinkable, with about a year of so of ageing the brett is coming thru nicely, and is quite tart. One glass pour was lively, good head, the other went to film almost immediatley.
But that is really all you get, and for the price point and the reputation of the brewers it is almost like they set their sights too low.

I have another which I will age for a couple more years.

O - marked down one mark due to prohibitive price point for end product.

Brux - the contradictorily called "domesticated wild ale" - seems like it's been spared the human touch; this flat and murky beer doesn't look the least bit polished, almost as if it escaped quality control altogether. It resembles peach nectar in colour and complexion (and carbonation).

Just as it looked thick and pulpy as a fruit nectar, so too does it smell like one; the aroma bursts forth with a budding fruitiness, like a peach, pear, and apple orchard in full blossom. It's a reminder that yeast is truly one of the world's most magical members of the kingdom Fungi, capable of producing such intricate and nuanced aromas that are simultaneously sweet and sour.

Despite the brewery's (breweries?) claim that this would "progress in the bottle for many years" it doesn't seem to have changed much in the year and a half since its release. Those that complained of it lacking in sourness and funkiness will be disappointed to find it's changed little in those departments. It has some vinegar- and cider-like tang, but is nothing more than lightly tart.

That's not to say that it doesn't have some very redeeming (and somewhat reminiscent of Gueuze) flavours that include green apple, apricots and other orchard fruits, cereal grains, vanilla accented oak, citrus peel, and soft Oriental spicing (lemongrass, coriander and white pepper). It may not live up at all to the 'wild ale' hype but it's still a pretty tasty offering.

There's some 'barnyard', 'goaty', and 'horsey' elements to Brux but they are very minor, hardly enough to consider this beer anything more than a standard Belgian blonde that's been refermented with some Brett (which, in fairness, is all it claims to be). Still, given the brand-name power of its producers - to say nothing of the hefty price tag - I expected a little more.

The beer pours a beautiful golden orange with a huge head of large, pebble-like bubbles. The head settles to a half-finger’s width height above the beer and then slowly fizzles away with mediocre retention. In body, the beer is opaque and murky, yet gorgeously bright in color with lots of lively carbonation bubbles running through the glass. On the nose, the beer has a grassy barnyard funk. It is not an overpowering funk, but is gentle and complex. Hay, soft cherry, prickly horse blanket, and fruit leather tickle over the nostrils. On the tongue, the beer tastes initially lightly tart with acidity and a funky sweetness. This dries into the finish with a touch of salinity and grassy bitters. In flavor, this beer shows many similarities to a nice gueuze, which I like, but it loses that on the finish. Bright lime and lemon peel flavors blend with subtle cherry, barnyard funk, and a touch of metallic copper. The middle of the sip develops an odd meatiness, while the finish places a splash of pineapple, slight earthy salt, and must alongside grassy bitters. In the mouth, the beer feels on the light side of medium in body with a fierce and fizzy carbonation and a crisp, snappy, and slightly slimy mouthfeel. The tongue is left tingly with acidity and the cheeks fill up with spittle, yet the mouth as a whole feels dry. Overall, this is a nice funky beer, though I wish I had aged it for a couple more months. The nose is superbly funky, almost like a well-crafted gueuze but the flavor doesn’t quite stand up. The meatiness develops more and more as the beer warms, which is too bad, and the funky flavors aren’t quite there yet. This beer is good, and has some awesome parts but doesn’t quite add up as a whole yet. A good beer, but if you have a bottle, age it longer.

Appearance: Pours a dark orange color with 4 fingers of an off white rocky head. Body is relatively clear with only a slight haze. Insane amounts of visible carbonation streaming throughout the the glass.

Smell: Lots of funky brett character, apple, pear, belgian yeast, pineapple, lemongrass.

Taste: Light malt sweetness, pear, white grape, spice, light tropical notes and some funky brett character.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with very high carbonation. Really dry finish.

Overall: Nice brett beer. Still not super funky, but it's developed quite nicely since it was first released. It's drinking well now, but could probably develop further with some additional aging

Poured from bottle into a snifter.

Almost no head and what was present quickly faded to a thin white rim and then almost nothing. Slightly cloudy burnt orange appearance.

The nose reminds me of a homemade dandelion wine that my grandfather would get from one of his patients back in the day. Smell makes me think that this is going to be pretty funky.

First taste is a bit disappointing compared to the nose. It isn't the funky beast that I was hoping for but it isn't bad. It's actually pretty mild and balanced with dried apricot notes blending with a Belgian style yeast.

Finish is mildly dry. Not as dry as expected after reading the bottle.

Perfect beer with this sharp cheddar cheese. Overall it was a bit disappointing but not a bad beer.

A: Slightly hazy and golden hue with a huge sudsy, quickly dissipating head; not much lacing

S: Fruity and funky: apples, pears, pear juice, lemon, grass, hay, cheese; man, this smells musty and grainy and fruity and funky

T: Slightly tart and fruity up front: so much pear with subtle lemon and apple; it then dries up a bit leaving some musty grassy grains, funky but not as much as the aromas indicated--this did cellar for 6 months but I bet more time would allow this to funk out a bit more

F: The effervescent carbonation followed by a yeasty creaminess works well for this beer

O: I love funky, musty, cheesy beers and this one is delicious; I have had much better beers from both of these breweries but this one does a nice job and ends up being a decent collaborative effort

A: Light copper with no discernible head.

S: Spicy nose, some light fruit, cardamom, nutmeg.

T: Tastes like a very spicy Saison, Belgian yeast, lemon, citrus peel, orange, nutmeg, cardamom.

M: Light bodied, smooth and refreshing.

O: Not exactly what I'd call an American wild ale, but then again that term, like American strong ale, tells you next to nothing about the beer type. Overall, it tastes like a slightly tart saison. It's quite good, and I'd definitely recommend it.

First pour is a clear amber color with one finger of head that settled to a skim of suds. Very little lacing is left down the glass.

Aroma of fruity esters. Notes of lemon, grapes, and grass. Funky aromas come through with barnyard/horse notes.

The Brett is making itself known but I feel it could benefit from even more time to mature. Fruit esters upfront with vinous qualities as well as the Belgian malt. The Brett comes in closer to the finish with mild funk. Finishes with a sweet vinous flavor. As I get deeper into the glass, the sweetness overpowers the funk.

Medium body and actively carbonated. Lively but not harsh. Could of even used a little more fizz to keep the palate interested in the beer.

Did not try this beer fresh as I heard it was not ready for the main stage. It is coming along nicely but would benefit from another year or two to develop further to live up to its lineage.

Pours out a beautiful burnt orange color with light golden hues around the edges. The body is mildly hazy and filled with plenty of carbonation and is topped off with a light white head roughly a finger and a half thick. The head sticks around for some time and slowly transforms into a thin ring around the glass. There’s no lacing in this beer.
Citrus fruits, lemon grass, apple and figs come through the aroma and are well balanced.
The spices in this beer show up first and as it move toward the back of your throat, the spiciness calms down and turns into more floral flavors, wheat, apple and orange are apparent at this point. It’s mildly tart overall. There are some mild banana flavors in its aftertaste and it does sweeten up a bit. Over all the taste was pretty complex and very pleasing.
This ale has a medium to light mouth feel and really warms up your mouth, plus it makes for an awesome breakfast ale!
Overall, this was a great ale to drink and leaves wanting more.

Appearance: Clear, pale, orangish yellow. Frothy head turns to decent lace.
Smell: Floral, citrus, grape, biscuit.
Taste: Grape, sour, citrus, biscuit maybe.

This was delightfully interesting. The first thing that caught me was the complexity of the smell. So much going on from floral to biscuit. The second thing was the sparkling attribute. It was very much champagne-like with around the same qualities as the smell. Not super drinkable, but very enjoyable. I would get it again.

The beer comes in a yellow orange color.

The aroma has some barnyard funk and Bret character along with some fruit notes.

The flavor follows with some tart, a good amount of funk, and then this beautiful sweet citrus and tropical fruit flavor. A sweetness in there as well.

This is a good beginner Bret beer as the Bret character is not too strong and aggressive as well as this beer having fruity sweetness.

With age, this beer still drinks real well.

Pours a slightly cloudy, pale, dark, yellow. The head develops, and drops, quickly resulting in no head after a minute. No lace.
Smell is delightfully sour and musty. Some malt, spices, hint of hops maybe. Good balance.
Taste is malty, musty, banana (light), spices. Well balanced.
Warming, drying, medium-light body with a tart, sharp effervescence.
This particular bottle I purchased in November 2012, 13 months ago. It's really good.
