The manager at Barley's participated in the beer camp that this one was brewed in so it made its way to us! Served from tap into a shaker. Poured a dark brown with a half finger tan head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, rye, spices, and nuttiness. The flavor was of sweet malt, roasted malt, rye, spices, and subtle dark chocolate. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a fairly good brew. There was a nice touch of rye on this one that kept your palate interested while not being overpowered which is rather easy to do with some rye forward beers. The nice touch of roastiness and dark chocolate going on definitely helped to counteract some of this. The aroma on the otherhand was nice, but just a little weak for my liking. A little more intensity would have definitely helped this one out. Still a fairly well rounded brew that I wouldn't mind enjoying again if the opportunity arrises. Tick.

On tap in a pint glass at Barley's Greenville on 9/17/12.
A) Dark brown; nearly black save for the brown at the base of the glass. The foam is smooth and rippled; just under one finger. Thin film of retention with very good lace.
S) Dark, malty aroma with dry rye in abundance. Decent showing of piney, earthy hops. Hints of roasted coffee trail off to the background.
T) The flavor is focused fully on the malt - toasty rye bread with moderate spiciness and a long, dry finish. Hops are downplayed and pepper the spiciness of the back end. Roasty finish.
M) The feel is a fluffy medium, carried along by ample, well-mannered carbonation.
O) It's nice to have a rye beer that doesn't over do it with the hops. Easily drinkable.
