Had on tap at Federal Bar in North Hollywood.

Pours an opaque brown with a beige head made up of creamy, small bubbles.

Smells of figs, brown sugar, raisins, brandy, and oak. Inviting.

Flavor follows the nose. Tons of brown sugar, brandy, and an oak edge to perk you up.

Mouthfeel is super smooth and creamy.

Overall: I haven't had many brandy barrel aged beers but this one impressed me. Love the sweet taste of brandy and this isn't cloying at all. Surprised Sierra Nevada doesn't bottle this and increase distribution. A worthy beer.

Hard to believe that this hasn't been rated in a year. This was poured from a bottle that has aged about 1 year to date. It poured an amber/red with a slight bit of head and lots of lacing.

The smell was of brandy and slight hops with a sweet accent on the end.

The taste was pleasant and refined. As I am not familiar with dubbel's it seemed to be a nice yeasty beer with some fruitiness and herbs on the palate. The brandy was present, but not overwhelming and the alcohol was hidden well. The barrel taste wasn't very pronounced and I don't think they used a very high quality brandy barrel. Actually, there are very few brandy barrel variants that I have enjoyed, Deliverance being one of the few and Old Stock, but even brandy barrel angel share doesn't rise to the occasion.

Overall, it was a very interesting and actually enjoyable beer. Again, I am not familiar with Dubbel's, but the sweetness did not detract from the experience and I would and will drink this again. Especially since I have another bottle that I will age another year to see how the beer reacts to time in the bottle.

sour then sweet. Probably too much for a whole drink. Reminds me of tawny port

Shared a taster on-tap as part of four flights at the brewery; Sierra Nevada Brewing Co, Chico, USA. As part of a six-week West Coast beer tour. I rate to taste, not to style. See my blog for more details:

Bottle pour at the 2013 Firestone Walker Invitational held at the Paso Robles Event Center in Paso Robles, CA.

Billed as a dubbel aged in brandy barrels.

Pours a hazy dark orange with a foamy bone head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is sour and tart with malt, dark fruit, grape skin, and brandy aromas. Taste is much the same with fruit and brandy flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice brandy presence in the aroma and flavor.
