Pours a hazy dark orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Thick streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of earthy malt and grain, tropical fruit, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with earthy citrus zest and herbal hop flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that definitely has citrus and tropical aspects as described but there is an underlying earthiness that is battling for attention in the aroma and flavor.

Large straw colored big bubbled head. Brew is deep red, nice lacing and head retention.

Smells like marijuana mixed with a campfire. Roasty, dank, damp, slightly smoked, light aroma, pines, cat piss?

Lots of flavor for an Red, but still very light watery, dry, harsh bitter, earthy, piney, heavy caramel malt, chewy, rounded oddly. Sweetness takes you up than slams you down. Odd. Hops are too faint

Recommendation is in the air. It's worthy at $1.90/12oz, but not to buy a 12pk of. SN has done and will do better.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a dark hazy auburn; fluffy off-white head that sticks around and leaves great retention and sticky lacing. Looks awesome, just like most of SN's beers. The aromas are malt heavy. The hops definitely take a backseat in the nose. Hints of pine and grass in the aromas as well. Tastes like Sierra Nevada. The flavors are bold and bitter. They are extremely earthy. Lots of pine needles with some hints of grapefruit. It's far from tropical. The hop bitterness is definitely there, but it lacks yummy hop flavors. Lots of caramel malts. Mouthfeel is awesome. It's medium-bodied; active carbonation and very creamy. Alcohol goes unnoticed and it's easy to drink.

I never thought I wouldn't highly enjoy a beer hopped up with Citra, Simcoe, and Centennial. It's not bad, but it's not as interesting as one would expect. Reguardless if I enjoy it or not, the craftsmanship is clearly always there with Sierra Nevada.

Bottled August 16, 2013. 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a clear burnt amber/red body with two fingers of light tan foam. Really great lacing and retention.

S - Pine, grass and a bit of tropical fruit. Some dankness follows it. Predominantly floral and piney though.

T - Bitter resinous pine, caramel malt, light spice, and some citrus/mango. The flavors are very balanced with nothing really taking the spotlight. Certainly tasty, but nothing too exciting. Mouth feel is medium bodied and lightly creamy. Very easy drinking.

O - Its departs from the Cascade signature that makes up their Pale Ale, but the Citra/Simcoe/Centennial additions really don't amount to much more then just light notes from each hop variety. It's less tropical then the description indicates and has a sort of Ruthless Rye malty profile but minus the actual rye spice that makes that beer so great. Overall, just a solid hoppy SN beer.

a: Very dark amber color, served to me with one finger of long lasting white foam.

s: Lots of fresh, prickly tropical fruit blunted by bracing caramel sweetness.

t: Big, beautiful hop flavor. Lots of grapefruit and lemon rind. Very pungent and skunky. Lots of caramel and hints of honey and tea weighed things down a bit.

m: Chewy and creamy.

o: I liked this one a lot for sure. It comes in just a half a tick below my favorite hoppy SN ofeerings like Hoptimum, Ruthless Rye, and celebration though.
