Pours dark brown with airy, thick beige head and lots of lacing on the glass. Aroma of nice roast malt and hops. Taste is all malt and hops, some citrus (grapefruit), definitely worthy of it’s praise.

Yet another trip back in time to the Sierra Nevada Single, Fresh, Wet & Wild Hop Harvest festival in Chico, CA. Black ipas were all the rage back then, so much so even respected, normally above trend brewers were all in, even making wet hopped black ipas that make as much sense as drinking evaporated water from a can.
Black ale pours black 1/2" light brown head. Jokes aside, its slightly lighter in color than that. The purported uniqueness of this wet hopped beer is lost on notes of roasted malt. Ha ha what a cool joke, make a wet hopped beer that is largely covered up by roasted malt. Lulz. Cash in now honey, cash in this minute, cash in now baby. . . they even waxed the bottles.
Taste, more roasted malt, generic dark beer bittering hops. Disappointing. There aren't any off flavors, its just through a design standpoint, are you kidding me? Its carbonation is fine, its just even with the excuse of the barley crop failure, this doesn't make much sense. Roasted malt and bittering hops, cool.

The bottle I just cranked was from 2013. The color was a dark ruby amber with frothy white head that left some lace. The scent carried floral and citrus notes. The taste was mostly roast and earth with good pine and citrus back drop. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it was good...but not the best BIPA ive had.
