This is a great beer - I can understand that many have problems with the sourness, but I had no problem that way, in spite of disliking lemon juice or flavouring.

Smell mainly yeast
Very carbonated -- needs a wider glass or an aggressive pour
Sour, lemony, partnered with the champagne level carbonation, make this really refreshing and thirst quenching
Being only 3% make drinking a few no problem. Definitely the best 'small' beer I've tasted.

(It's the first beer of the style I've tried)

MJ's "Guide" gave this 3 of 4 stars and said "it scores for assertiveness, but lacks complexity and length."
Listed among the "1001 Beers", this deserves to be there based on the history alone of this "champagne of the north" as Napoleon's troops dubbed it. Since there used to hundreds of brewers in Berlin that specialized in this style and there are only two today, the history is about preservation, too.

If you like sour, then try this. Designed to be refreshing on a hot day, it succeeds. It even looks like a thirst-quencher. Also good with raspberry and woodruff syrups in the glass or in the bottle.

This is one different beer. If you don’t know the style, be prepared for something unfamiliar. While the aroma is very faint, the flavor comes on tart and sweet, with a very dry finish. Some wine-like characteristics for sure, but this one is the unflavored variety, and very unique. Could probably be marked higher for aroma and appearance, but I am still new at this style and need to learn the norms. Seek this one out!

Pours the nice cloudy Berliner Weisse color with minimal head. Ahh the smell takes me back to the streets of Berlin. Perfect level of sourness. Crisp and carbonated feel. Drink it soon or it will get way too foamy.

Mildly hazy pale yellow, small white head quick to a poor string.
Big keller notes jump up in the smell, some lemon, light apple, some stale grain. Not sour yet.
Now it's sour. Like a nice kellerbier riddled with lemon juice and peel, hints of yellow apple, even some faint sweeter yellow pear. Moldy bread, with a pinch of salt and a light spicy hop note, right before the dry finish. Bone dry.
Aftertaste still has that moldy feel and lingering (light) sourness. Light bodied, medium carbonated.
I get why this is a classic. But it's still pretty simple, especially among other new beers in the style. Didn't try to add any syrup, so there's also that..
