New Years eve 2017. Tequila is better on its own

Beer matured in Tequila oak barrels, sounds interesting.
Amber color with a thin head with short retention.
Nice aroma with notes of oak, slightly toasted malts, umami and caramels.
Flavor with notes of mild smoked and toasted malts, a mild Tequila in the background, vanilla, orange peel, caramel, oak and citrusy hops.
Light body with soft carbonation. Alcohol of 7% abv is amazingly disguised.
I consider this a successful experiment. The Tequila flavored beers I had before tasted terrible. Here the tequila is rather subtle or elegant, which is not bad at all, I would like to drink a version like that and another one with full Tequila blow and hoppier. I believe this is worth trying. They are in the right track, just keep improving it and it can be a great beer.

L- Clear filtered orange body with a frothy but bubbly white head, fades fairly fast.
S- Caramel, vanilla and malt.
T- Tastes like a plain pale ale. Aftertaste leaves hints of smoke, vanilla and a very faint but warm note of tequila.
F- Medium but a bit watery.
O- Expected more, specially on the tequila side. Disappointed, at least it is cheap.

This beer promises so much... and it doesn´t deliver. Very plain pale ale, nothing in particular. It´s supposed to be matured in tequila barrels, but tequila taste is almost non existent.

This was a bit of a let down, bought three bottles in Guadalajara, I expected somewhat of an explosion of flavors due to the tequila barrels but it tasted like any other mexican beer with a slight twist, overall an OK beer but nothing to get excited over.

660ml bottle. An interesting looking style. Originally sampled at Beerfest.
Clear, dark golden color, with a steady stream of bubbles that maintain the head. Thin streaks of lacing around the glass.
It smells like a typical pale ale, some citrus hops, caramel malt. Not really strong, but there is a hint of tequila. Thank goodness its not a clear bottle, I was psyching myself up for a skunk bomb.
The taste is bready malt, some citrus and leafy hops. Again, a faint tequila tingle at the end.
Low carbonation, medium body, smooth. Slightly wood barrel finish (but that might be my brain convincing my palate with a preconceived notion of what this is supposed to taste like).

Breaking a long reviewing fast with this one - most beer in Mexico is one of many similar styles and not terribly fun to review, and the more unusual beers are typically quite expensive. This was a decent price (Beer Box Condesa) and not "oscura o clara".

Pours orange and flat, slight bubbly head but not a lot. Mostly clear, the color is nice and robust, but just better than not much. Nose is faint, hoppier than most Minerva beers, but again, maybe just above average. Everything else comes in at or slightly below average - the flavor is interesting but not great, mouthfeel a bit bubbly for such a big style, and drinkability is nothing to write home about.

Initial flavor, to me, of sweet malt followed closely by the hops. Agave flavor is an astringency behind the typical flavors, but doesn't make this one stand out from the crowd. For the size of the body, this should be much hoppier; for the size of the alcohol punch it should be maltier. Much better than most Mexican beers and worth seeking out if you're visiting, but don't expect an American full-flavored strong ale.
