Matchette has been my "liquor store of choice" for many years. Good-sized store in the western KC 'burbs, located at the SW corner of K-7 and Johnson Drive. They have a great selection of wines and liquors, and a huge cooler of the popular beers. Another cooler or two is full of the beers I have seen reviewed here on BA. The owner has been great in working with me in stocking some of the beers I have discovered here.

Staff is friendly and the place is well-stocked, well-organized and easy to get in and out. Anyone in western WyCo or western JoCo should stop by and shop!

Updating my review a little... Although they still carry a good selection of craft beers, they seem to be in a bit of a "rut" stocking the same beers, and not able to bring in newer or different selections. This may have a lot to do more with their distributors and what they can get in the store, but it's disheartening, nonetheless. I have to shop in MO for several of my desirable beers.

This place sits in a strip mall right on K-7 in Shawnee, KS. Convienient for me as it is about 6 blocks from my brother-in-law's house in Shawnee. The store has been recently expanded to accomodate more product...some of which should be craft beer as alluded to by the attendant at the counter. On the shelves on this visit were a ton of Great Divide products in bombers and sixers. I don't know about the freshness here as I found several bombers of Old Ruffian still available on Memorial Day weekend. But they had it and that is all I cared about at the time. Another sign that more BA's need to stop here was the "aged" bottle of Unibroue edition 2004 I found on the shelf. Again...freshness may be a factor... but in a high ABV belgian I have never seen before...I'll take it. The most encouraging thing I heard was that the owner is into wine and craft brews and might be willing to order more in if he sees the business. The current stock has a few great outliers in the Great Divide and Unibroue products as well as several other belgian offerings and the standard, New Belgium, Boulevard, Goose Island routine we see in NE, there was some flying dog stuff as well, a decent selection. Good deal. Stop in here if you get a chance.

Beer knowlege from the two staffers on hand rounds out at about -0. Keep that in mind when stopping in.
