Nice beer of a dark amber color, somewhat transparent, with an ok foam that leaves a nice lace.
Smells like a belgian one; malty - it’s easy to distinguish roasted and caramel malts, as well as the yeast. A distant chocolate aroma is also possible to distinguish.
Taste is smooth, a bit sugary and that hides the ABV well, still possible to feel some alcohol (not unpleasant though). Malty notes in the mouth are similar to the smell and reminds me of trappist beers.
Fruity character is nice both in taste and smell. Dark and dry fruits, basically.
Body and carbonation grow when I get to the end of the bottle, is well balanced together with the bitterness level.

750 ml. bottle. Dark brown colour, almost no head, no retention except for some small bubbles and no lacing. Smell of caramel, raisins, coffee and dark fruits. Light body and watery palate. Tste of dark fruits, mocha, caramel. maybe some cocoa. Not the best from Birra del Borgo.

Bottle: Poured a dark burgundy color ale with a small off-white bubbly head with almost no retention and no lacing. Aroma of caramel with light toffee and some warming alcohol. Taste is not complex as I would have hope with some straight caramel malt with dry notes and light toffee with some clear medicinal notes. Body is a bit light with almost no carbonation and some alcohol was apparent. Overprice and not too good for the style.

Mondial 2009. Hazy Dark ale with above average mouthfeel supported by yeast by caramel. A good bitterness, acidity within, and chocolate malt. Found a balanced finish though not exceptional for the style, particularly in overall taste.good, but overpriced Italian craft beer.

From the branded 75 cl bottle, this beer has a dark brown complexion. Cloudy and murky with a huge tan head (and lots of lace), the beer is appears very enticing. The smell is also quite good. It's malty, with a dark fruit aroma. Lots of subtly roasted, toasted, mildly scorched malt smells. There's also a slight and distant funky sourness in the smell. It's not at all clean, and is very estery, with lots of things going on. The taste is quite sweet, with a little twang in the mid-taste. It's a complex and interesting beer, but seems a little jumbled together. Medium mouthfeel, with a bit of a carbonic bite. The mix of acidic sourness and malty sweetness make the beer an interesting, if not exceedingly drinkable, brew.

Bottle purchased at Off License in Rome. Murky brown, full head, near perfect looks. Not the most aromatic, hints of fruits and yeast. Flavor has nice depth with hints of ripe fruits, roasted malt, belgian character and exotic notes. I like Birra Del Borgo.
