Bottle purchased at the famous Eatily in NYC.

Icky sweet smell in my Sam Adam's glass. Nice color, chestnut red?

Sweet like belgian candy, the residual sugar is unexpectedly intense. Has a nice bitter orange residual that creeps up on me. Very muted and long lasting.
No idea why some one would have this for a dessert, it isn't that good. Has a funk about it between sweet and a pleasant natural bitterness.

Painful to think I spent an irrational amount of money on this beer thinking it's worthy of an imaginary fireside while I could have had other food products around me.

25 Dodici (25/12, Christmas Day) has an orange pekoe colour and sediment that floats in the glass like pieces of panettone. One doesn't have a choice in the matter - they come out with the very first pour and only get thicker from there. Its head is also thick and leaves lacing like reams of wrapping paper.

Clementines have always been part of our family's Christmas tradition and, through the use of dried orange peel, the aroma magically conjures that element of the season very well. Hints of ginger and toffee enhance the holiday theme and create a delicate bouquet of citrus, spice, and sweetness.

25 Dodici has a wonderfully balanced fruit profile that oscillates between dried and tropical varieties; flavours bounce from juicy clementine to golden raisin, ruby grapefruit to dried apricot, with plenty of fig in between. The taste of fruits of all colours really conjures summer yet retains its intended winter-y feel.

I've had this bottle in my possession for nearly a year and still have one more to go before the stamped 'best before' passes. While it's drinking beautifully tonight - mellow, nuanced, no trace of alcohol - I can't help but wonder how much more zestful it might have been fresh. No need to stash it any longer.

I can't think of a better way to say 'buon Natale!' This winter warmer has all the marzipan, clementine, and fruitcake notes to accompany your December meals and festivities. Italy as a nation knows a thing or two about Christmas and clearly so do its brewers. 25 Dodici is a true holiday treat.

The Oude 25th-year Dodici comes with high expectations. As a brewery that flirts with authentic tartness of Belgian-esque origins but committed to the forward progress or barrel aged art and sour ale development- this beer has to come with high aspirations, right?

Upon the pour, the zesty ale dons a tawny brown color with varying highlights of maroon and rust. Its vibrant carbonation reveals a scattered head that dissipates soon thereafter. Its light foam relies on Merlot-like legging over lace- likely because of its high acidity. Its appearance catches it somewhere between ale and port.

Incredible sour aromas of balsamic vinegar, tart apple cider, dry white wine and sour grapes kick start the pungent aromatics. A whiff of sea air, horse blanket, and old dusty woods offer earthy aromas to complement the sour fruit. But then other eccentric notes of , leather, tobacco. sweat and earthen marmalade make the aromas both savory and sweet.

Richer to taste, the malt and port notes reinforce a sweeter impression and relegate the sour notes to a somewhat secondary role. The strong balsamic taste is alive and well but invite the taste of dry sherry, Port, raisin, dried orange peel, dates, figs, and soy sauce to add to the acidity and sultry taste. Fruitcake spice, weathered oak, tannin. tobacco and tea all reveal themselves as the beer lumbers in its finish and aftertaste.

Surprisingly medoium-light on the palate, the beer eases from a soft pillowy malt support and int a sharply acidic tone in quick order. As the malt recedes and the acidity takes hold, the beer only intensifies from there- concluding in a pungent, sharp, and sultry taste that lingers briefly in after taste and texture.

Dodici is a masterfully crafted ale that starts bullyish, abrupt, and aggressive but finsihes with a soft charm that wins me over easily.It's an inquisitive Sour Ale that does so much more than just sour a beer. One sip sets you on that jounet.

It looks a chestnut colour, small bit of foam that's gone quickly.

The smell is nice. Fruity with hints of a mild tartness.

The taste is of the orange peel that's kinda bitter, again a hint of tartness. The most surprising thing is how well the abv is hidden.

Light bodied with light carbonation.

Pretty average brew at way above average price.

This was last night's showcase beer at Max's, Baltimore, and you gotta wonder where Casey finds these items. There was no "poop sheet" on it; I guess there wasn't time or inclination after the whirlwind of Belgian Weekend. I actually parked behind him as he was leaving, he was just getting his voice back. He had listed it as an Italian Winter Ale so, given the constraints on the BA site, I've called it a Winter Warmer (hah). Another popular site had it listed as a Belgian Strong Ale which is stylistically reasonable. I was also "forced" to put in an availability and assume it's a winter offering. It was posted as 9.5% which is remarkable, 'cause you'd never know until it was too late.

The Dodici looks pretty decent in the glass, a dark reddish brown and came with a nice fluffy head. The smells were rich and malty and I didn't get any spice. It's a very full flavored beer with a lot of malt but well balanced and not sweet at all. The spices are very subtle but they show up a bit more on the finish. Perhaps I was overly enthusiastic but this is a really good, drinkable beer and I recommend you locals try it while you can.

Pours a hazy copper color with a one-finger slightly off-white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of pale malts with sugar dusted citrus rinds. Also present are floral and earthy hops along with a slight spiciness.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Pale malt flavors kick things off and are joined quickly by slightly bitter citrus rind flavors. The flavor profile sweetens a bit shortly thereafter before earthy hops flavors temper the sweetness. Mild amounts of indistinct spices come into play near the end of the sip before fading out into a mildly bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It’s got a nice thickness with solid carbonation.

Drinkability is also good. I had no problems finishing my glass and could have another.

Overall this was a slightly above average spiced beer from Italy. Nothing exceptional but a nice and easy-drinking beer. Worth a shot if you see it around.

Hmmm? I don't get the name... 25 twelve (dodici). I'll have to research that.

A: It pours a hazy russet brown body with muddied orange highlights along the sides of the glass. Even a rough pour failed to deliver any head.

S: The lemon peel is right there, bright and fresh. There's a little bit of mustiness, and a touch of caramelish malt.

T: The lemon hits you upfront, and you think that it might be tart, but then it warms to reveal the maltiness. It's caramelish, bready, herbal, straw-like and grassy with a little bit of mustiness and wet-wood, and fruity like dried figs. It's not particularly bitter (there's just enough to balance it), yet it finishes dry. As it fades in the swallow it's gently spicy and subtly herbal, and there's a subtle touch of earthiness.

M: Medium-full in body. Smooth with a very low carbonation level.

Overall: Impressive! It's new and interesting. It's semi-rich, but also refreshing. It reminds me in some ways of a saison, and in some ways of a more malty beer. The lemon peel has really been put to good use; and it has surprising balance. Quite remarkable. Worth seeking out.

Tasted this at the Walk The Line On Barleywine commercial barleywine competition.

A: hazy amber with moderate beige head that fades to a ring and produces minimal lacing

S: malty, light floral, not much complexity

T: again malty, some slight offsetting indistinct hop flavors, light hop bittering

M: medium body, very dry finish

O: a decent barleywine with not as much complexity as expected (particularly compared to Sedici Gradi from the same brewery), and not visually exceptional

Poured into a Dogfish Head pint glass. Pours a very dark chestnut brown with a nice two finger tan head with good retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, light citrus, lightly sour. Flavor is muted, but complex; bready and toasted malt, dark dried fruit, a bit of chocolate and hints of light fruit. Finishes semi-dry with residual dark malt, chocolate, bittering hops and light citrus, very slightly sour. Medium bodied but very nice sharp, active carbonation. A nice flavor profile and progression. Different. Closest in style to a hopped brown ale, but with a bit more fruit elements. I really liked this and glad I found a bottle.

A: The beer is relatively clear dark red in color and has some brownish hues along with a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a short white head that quickly died down, leaving some lacing on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of sourness and oak are present in the nose along with hints of vanilla.
T: Much like the smell, the taste has a lot of flavors of toasted oak and vanilla along with a light amount of sourness. I didn't really get much in the way of malts.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a bit tart on the palate with a low amount of carbonation. No warming is perceptible.
O: The sourness and tartness seemed to make this beer resemble a Flanders Red Ale a little more than it did a Winter Warmer. In any event, this beer hides its alcohol remarkably well and is therefore very easy to drink considering its strength.

Poured into a tulip....

A: Pours a murky amber brown that is very opaque...lots of yeast left in the bottom of the bottle. Big bubble form a one finger head that recedes slowly leaving pretty good lacing and a thin foam on top of the beer with lots of large bubbles.

S: Plums, raisins, fresh tilled soil, earthy hops, faint spices, fresh cut grass, a hint of citrus in the background.

T: Follows the nose with added caramel malt in the mid-palate which adds nice body and a much needed hint of sweetness to balance the earthiness of this beer. Definitely pick up on the orange peel, combines well with the citrusy hop profile to make a nice crisp finish that lingers. Pretty good.

M: Medium body with very nice carbonation, not too much and finishes nice and dry with lingering hops and malt balanced nicely.

D: Interesting flavor profile on this winter warmer combined with the nice mouthfeel and completely hidden 9.5% makes this a very drinkable winter warmer. Delish, really enjoyed.

On-tap 12/5/2013 at Track 84, in Warwick, RI served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a deep reddish brown color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is faint but contains caramelized malts, dark fruit, a touch of spice and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel, fruit and some spice. Then a hearty malt character comes in. The hops presence is mild but brings a decent balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, strong kick, not too filling, decent representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.

Poured into a Weyerbacher tulip.

Appearance: Hazy, dark caramel color and pours with a thick, bubbly head. Lacing is fairly sticky and the rim remains for a while.

Smell: Caramel and malts come to mind first, with a hint of citrus at the end. Reminds me of the chocolates that have a orange liquor center.

Taste: Sweet and malty, with a boozy finish. Is it bad that I keep repeating caramel? But it does taste like caramel.

Mouthfeel: Light carbonation, but flavor sticks around for a while and leaves almost a syrupy residue feeling.

Overall: This is probably average, at best. You can tell there is a certain amount of craftsmanship and attention to the beer, but the style just doesn't really appeal to my palette. I would absolutely consider this - given its thickness - more of a fall/winter beer.
