On-tap at Prime 16 into a snifter. This is the base 25 Dodici aged in Belgian Owl whisky barrels.

A: Opaque dark brown body under a thin cap of tan foam that settles into a persistent ring. Not great, but not terrible.

S: Strange. Oak plays a prominent role, as does a strange spiciness that reminds me of pine nuts in pesto. Some dark fruits, booze, and vanilla as well. Underwhelming.

T: Opens with raw oak, followed by fruitiness (grapes and figs), spice, and malt. The whisky asserts itself with a bit of booze on the finish. Oaky vanilla sticks around on the aftertaste. It’s complex all right, but sadly unfocused. I’m just confused.

M: Full-bodied and lively. Good.

O: I’ll give it some credit for being experimental, and there were aspects of the Belgian whisky flavor that I liked. I just think the base beer was a bit too muddled to gain much from the barrel treatment.

Cheers!
