Sadly, this pub has shut down. Anyone know the story? Hopefully reopening in new location? Tweet me @louvanpr if any news. Thanks.

I always had a good time there, too bad it was something of a far drive for me. I always loved beer selection and anticipated what they would have new on tap. I see I have to type some more in order to get up to 500 characters, so here goes! I also like Doherty's in Pawtucket and track 84 in Warwick. Mews Tavern in Wakefield of course. Cambridge, Mass has some awesome joints!

I've gone to Pitcher's Pub a couple of times and each time has been a good experience.

They have some good beer reads such as the Yankee Brew News to read and they offer table games and trivia if you want to play a game while you're there. The atmosphere is very relaxing and has a local bar feel to it.

The beer selection is good. I had a Clown Shoes Tramp Stamp and a Lagunitas Little Sumthin Sumthin. I tried part of a sample of the Lagunitas Brown Shugga.

This place is a great spot to just hang out and try some good beer and watch a game.

A hidden gem to say the least. Out of the way compared to other locations. 24 brews on tap that rotate through the seasons. Something new and interesting. Micros from all over the place. My only quibble is the infrequency of cask beer, but that's minor. Atmosphere is real local, if you go there more than once you'll see the same faces. The exterior does set low expectations (since it looks like ranch style house) but the interior will surprise. The Staff is helpful and tentative. Selection always changes and fresh. Food is very good considering the kitchen is the size of a closet. For top notch micros, it's a great value. Just the kind of unpretentious place to enjoy great beer. Cheers!

Pitcher's doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you walk in the door it has a nice feel to it... almost like a family restaurant. The relatively small space is cut in half- bar on the left, tables on the right.

My first (and so far, only) visit was on a Southern Tier promo night, so I can't fairly judge the draft selection, since at least 10 were dedicated to ST that night. But the other taps included a couple from BBC and Left Hand Milk Stout (on nitro). They have a hand pump as well. I quickly looked over the bottle list and was surprised to find some things you don't often see. (And yes, there is Bud Light on tap also.)

I only had a few bites of a burger and fries, but they were good. Menu was mostly bar food - sandwiches, appetizers, etc.

I look forward to going back again when it's not so crowded, so I can sample some more food and more thoroughly explore their complete beer list.

What a treat hidden in the woods of Cumberland! I always wanted to check this place out and finally got the chance a few weeks ago with some friends who are locals (Woonsocket area). Beer selection is fantastic. Great pub food. Always a great live musician strumming away and singing his heart out. Great crowed of people. Bartenders are always friendly. Atmosphere as far as adornments is typical but the energy in here is so high that it just makes for a great experience. Loud and fun without being a college bar (College bars piss me off pretty quick). Every time I've been we lose track of time and end up closing the place. Worth a trip from wherever you are!

Drove to Cumberland RI from Worcester MA to meet a friend for a few cold ones last Friday, chose Pitcher's Pub based on location, reviews and beer selection. Was not disappointed.

Was very "Cheers" like. Mostly a middle-aged crowd, some younger folks as well, generally seemed to know each other. A large screen TV at bar and a couple smaller TVs in the seating area.

Young ladies tending bar were attractive and attentive, didn't have to wait long between drinks despite the capacity (small facility) crowd. Reasonable blend of micro brews and brand beers. Didn't experiment much, happy with the $4 Ithaca Apricot Wheat. When killed that keg, had an unknown Belgian that was stronger.

Limited, but adequate, food selection, mostly sandwhiches, good quality.

Will return for more.

July 2011-surprised in the Information Age there is nothing posted online that discusses the status of Pitcher's, what the problem is and whether/when it will reopen. I miss it.

Pitcher's Pub is my home away from home. They are constantly rotating the taps to provide a great selection of local, and regoinal brews. The food is great pub food - don't miss the blue cheese burger and onion rings!

Almost weekly, they have brewers and/or reps in for tasting events.

Pitcher's has a great local feel to it and one of both of the owners are there quite often.

The staff is great - though a bit overwhelmed as the place is almost always packed. The place seats about 50 so get there early - but get there often.

Was in Northern RI, where there is NOTHING for good beer. If you want good beer you have to go into downtown Providence, or South County (the Mews). Saw this place while looking on BA, then found it again on a friend's phone, and by word of mouth by another friend. Had to check it out.

Great atmosphere. It was a Saturday night, mostly young crowd, college to college grad majority. Small place, I'd like to refer to it as a "house party with good beer." Lot's of cool micro brew signs and such.

Great service, no matter how packed it gets. Helpful too, if you don't know what you want. They even let you sample to see if you want a pint of a specific beer.

Standard bar food. Friends ate, I just stuck to the beer, but everything looked good, and nice portions.

Quality and Selection were excellent, counted 20 great micro brews on tap. Had a lot from Berkshire Brewing Company, some Ithaca, Wachusetts, and various others. There is also a large list of bottles and bombers. I stuck to BBC: Shabadoo on nitro, Imperial Stout, and Holidale. All were excellent and served in pretty much correct glassware (a major plus, especially considering the size of the place).

This place is fantastic. Other reviews call Pitcher's Pub a "hidden gem" and I can't agree more. Great prices, atmosphere and beer. This will be my bar of choice when in Northern RI.

I've been meaning to check out Pitcher's Pub but given its somewhat remote location, it's taken me a while. But I finally made it. Pitcher's Pub is a local watering hole that has added a bunch of taps for craft beer. It's similar in concept to Doherty's and Track 84.

The atmosphere is busy with lots of people that appear to be local and regulars. The decor is nothing special but it's sufficient. The room isn't that big and fills up pretty easily.

The beer selection includes local New England beers, a few other US beers and some imports. I'm guessing there were about 20 taps with at least as many in the bottle. They also had a beer engine for hand pulled beers but I didn't get to ask if they had anything on. I went with a Blue Point Hopticle Illusion and it was nice and fresh.

Pitcher's Pub is basically a BMC sports pub with a craft beer selection. If it was local to me, I'd go but otherwise it's not really worth the effort to get there. It's got a decent selection but it lacks the selection and atmosphere of better beer bars.

First, I'm not a regular here but I do stop in frequently (at least once a week). I started coming to Pitcher's about two years ago and it's now my local pub to have a beer and watch a game.

The beer: the rotation is constantly changing, always keeping it interesting. The pours are in the correct glassware (or close to it) and the prices are unheard of, especially for Belegian imports.

The staff: always willing to help with your beer decision and are attentive. At times, when the pub is crowded, you can get lost in the crowd. I've had a chance to speak to the owner's, Mark & Frank and they are great friendly guys.

The food: it's a small place and they have a basic menu but it does not disappoint. I suggest the ribeye steak sandwich, it is worth every cent.

Saw this place had good reviews on here, so I decided to check it out. They had an okay beer list, not as much it seemed fom their ratings, but they did have some quality selections. The food was okay, typical bar food. I wasn't crazy about the atmosphere though, maybe it was just that I went on Friday night when they bar was busy. Seemed like it was a neighborhood bar, though, so that was cool. Even though Cumberland's not my neighborhood. Would go there again, definitely better than you avergage Bud/Miller Lite bars.

Found this hidden gem while driving around the northern part of RI. As we pulled up and spotted a tiny bar, I was getting ready to feel the wrath of my wife for suggesting we drive 40 minutes to check it out, but when we opened the door I immediately knew it would be worth it. A nice crowd was present, along with an acoustic one man band who was pretty good. Twenty two domestic and international taps greeted us (Left Hand, Storm, Ayinger, Speakeasy, Avery and many more), as well as a cask of Ipswich IPA they had tapped for the evening. They also had a long list of bottles. No beer menu available, but the bartender pointed out the draft and bottle menus on the walls. Decent pub fare and I washed it down with some west coast brews. They also have a couple of meads available. The staff were cool even though the place was packed, and both owners seemed to know everyone besides us in the place, but we weren't treated as outsiders, which has happened to me a few other times I walked into a neighborhood bar in search of some fine beer. I also liked that it was an older crowd (at 31 I was one of the younger ones in the place), instead of the Mews where you have to deal with obnoxious college kids while enjoying your beer. Would definitely go back when I am in that part of the state again.

Pitcher's is a hidden gem in Cumberland, RI. I have gone here a few times over the past year and it is my favorite place in RI to go when looking for a good Belgian.
With 22 taps the owners focus is on getting quality beer. They also have a good mix of hoppy, malty, darks, lights beers. Last night for instance they had Tripel Karmeliet, Scaldis Noel, Brooklyn Winter, BBC Steel Rail, a Belgian Brown, a couple options from Clipper City and many more. They had ST Cuvee Series 1 in bottle.
Frank (one of the owners) was there to talk beer. He is very knowledgeable and friendly. Mentioned they have a lot of Winter/Stouts kegs in the basement waiting to be tapped (ST Creme Brulee, Hoppin' Frog, etc.).
I always end up chatting with patrons at the bar. The bar has a very neighborly feel. This is the reason I come here more often as it is always crowded and my friends and I always have a great time talkin' beer with the 'regulars'.
The food is okay. It's your typical pub fare of nachos, wings, burgers and wraps. Nothing fancy, but the portions are large. It's not like you come here for the food.
A great place that everyone should check out when they are in the RI area.

Went with my wife last Saturday (5/31) while on a shopping trip to Yankee Spirits. I had read about the place here on BA, and had been looking forward to trying it. We got there about 5:30, and got two seats at the bar.
Nice three sided bar with taps in one corner; various tables in the rest of the space; which is not big, but adequate. Immediately struck up a conversation with two guys that were leaving; talked about Cooperstown, cellaring, etc. Every person or group on both sides of us, which all seemed to know each other (where were Cliff and Norm?), all very friendly and made us feel like home; even the scratch golfer drinking Mich Ultra next to us.
Great deal there, six 7 oz. beers for $8.00; yikes! My wife got one and it is lots of beer for sure to be served at once. One guy who was leaving even said he decided to stay to watch her try to finish all those glasses.
They had about 20 taps I think, including the Scaldis that Frank tapped while we were there. St. Bernardus Abt 12 was in house, some nice Leffe Brown, Rogue Chocolate Stout, and many that frankly I can't remember. OK, not a world class selection, but far, far better than usual. Worth the 30 mile drive for sure.
We first ate nachos; there were so many that the 2 of us couldn't finish them without the threat of ruining dinner and more beers. I ordered their steak sandwich with fries, my wife had a burger. Sandwich was excellent; nice and juicy, and the fries were really good. Great pub food.
My wife had one or two beers plus the $8.00 sampler, I had 4-5 beers; the burger, nachos and steak sandwich and our bill was about $60! Wow, if this were Boston it would have been $110, and free parking to boot! A keeper. Thanks Frank and company for a fun evening.

Went to Pitchers Pub last night. Overall, I really liked it. Great selection of beers, comfortable environment, good food. One problem was there was no beer menu. The waitress had a list of what they had on tap written on the back of her order pad. We were told they didn't print a beer menu because the selections changed on a daily basis. I think it's great that they have such a variety and continuously turnover new and different kegs, but how hard would it be to keep a list of beers they have in a word document, with a brief description of the style and where they are from, and print it up every day. I think its a reasonable suggestion. Especially since the waitress, while very sweet, had no clue about any of the beers and couldn't tell you a thing about them.
Anyway, I had an awesome Belgium (St. Bernardus) and a Hazed and Infused Pale Ale. The pale ale was so fresh, it tasted like the hop flowers were just put in.
Another big plus for this place is the prices. The beers that I drank were in the $4 to $5 range. About the same as a gallon of gas, but a lot better tasting.
I still like Track 84 better.

Have heard alot about this place so i had to make the trip. Overall I think its a good place, but not great. The service was more then a bit slow (I sat there waiting for a beer several times) The selection was very good with lots of craft on draft and plenty in the bottle (not all on hand though). I had a corned beef sandwich which i would not recommend and the fries were cold. The atmosphere was that of your typical local pub and the place was clean but a little unkept. Overall I thought it was a good local pub with an outstanding selection but rather poor food and service. I will go back again, just not when hungry.

Went for the first time last night. The place is tiny and in the middle of nowhere - kind of out of the way for me. They had a good selection of beers, though there was a Bud Light tap handle mixed in with the craft beer. They had some German, Belgian, and American craft beers on tap (about 12 taps total it seemed). I had an Unearthly IPA and a Berkshire Coffeehouse Porter. Both tasted good and fresh.

My only complaint is that the bartender seemed disinterested in helping me. Several of the tap handles were turned so the labels were facing the bartender and not the customers. I found that annoying and she didn't seem overly interested in reading them to me.

The atmosphere was OK, kind of like a sports bar. There was no music playing when I got there, but some started later on. Last call was at midnight, which I am not used to, but considering it really is in the middle of nowhere, I don't imagine they get overly packed on a regular basis.

Bout time I came here. It took a day of a Cisco to have a keg of Cisco Blond for me to come down. Only one in the state from what I was told.

Decent selection, I have to compare it to track 84. I think track that day had a better selection.

Place was hopping, most of the time track is not.

I didn't try the food, but I saw some and it looked tastety.

Bartenders were friendly.

East place to find, kinda out of my way though. I would stop by again to try some stuff, maybe in the summer I will drive up.

The best beer bar in Rhode Island! They have 21 craft beers on tap at all times, as well as a good selection of bottled beers. They usually have 3 or more Belgian beers on tap. I believe they will have a cask ale beer engine soon too.

Although places like The Muse in southern Rhode Island do have more taps, they don't change the selection often. This place changes one or more beers almost daily. They also have great bar food. The owners are very knowledgeable and friendly. This is a great place to hang out and try a new beer.

Visited Pitcher's on a Saturday afternoon. I've been wanting to hit this place for a while and the opportunity finally presented itself. About 3 miles off of exit 10 on 295N, it's pretty easy to get too. Not a large place, but nice tavern atmosphere. Lots of wood and good sized bar. Tap list was outstanding, so I didn't even check the bottle list:

Left Hand Milk Stout & Saw Tooth
Cisco Grey Lady
Kasteelbier Brune
Guinness
Duchesse De Bourgogne
Newport Storm Blueberry
Great Divide DPA
BBC Coffee House Porter
Ten Penny Scottish Ale
Leffe Brown
Z Street Mocha Java Stout
Avery Maharaja & Ellie's Brown
Narragansett Bock
Magic Hat Irish Red
Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat
Heavy Seas Loose Cannon

Hearty pub fare - had the Calamari, Nachos and a Burger. All reasonably priced and very satisfying. Service was excellent. The bartender/waitress was very friendly and attentive and used style appropriate glassware when she served us.

Great experience and definitely plan on going back again soon.

What can I say? I have been going to Pitcher's for a little under a year now and can't get enough. With 22 taps, 20 of which are non generic beers, Pitcher's offers a variety of beers and beer styles. From the hoppiest of beers to the maltiest, from the white ales to the dark, Pitcher's has what you are looking for. Can't find it on tap....just ask! There is a good chance they have it in a bottle. Along with the wide selection of beer, the owners and staff are very friendly and beer connoisseurs in their own right. The owners, who happen to work at the bar, are more than happy to explain the complexities of the beer you decide to drink. They are very knowledgable about the beer they bring into the bar. You can tell they are beer lovers by the expression on their face when someone tries their first Belgian or IPA.
The food is also something of a relic when it comes to Pitcher's. Along with the freshness and great taste, the portions are usually more than one can eat in one sitting. All in all, Pitcher's is definitely a place for a visit.

The food is pub food but the burgers are hand made with fresh ground beef and the steak sandwich is awesome!

They have about 20 taps of constantly rotating micro-brews, with a couple that are more popular and tend to be main stays. There is also a decent bottle selection if there isnt anything on tap that suits your fancy, but they had a lot of variety including DFH, Saison Dupont, Scaldis, Left Hand, Watou, and several others. Pretty much 50/50 between american and belgian which is nice. The owner and bartender were incredibly friendly and obviously passionate about beer.

I found this little gem of a beer bar about 2 months ago and have been there about 5 times since and I haven't been dissappointed once. 22 taps with an everchanging array of brews, if you can't find something here that you like then you don't like beer.
The owners and staff make you feel welcome from the moment you walk in the door. My latest visit on Sunday 10/7/07 was no different than the rest. I was happy to see one of my favorite brews on tap, Left Hand Brewery's Milk Stout and ordered one up immediately. Delicious is all i can say. I spied St. Bernardus ABT12 on another tap but decided to hold off on the higher ABV brews until i had some food in my stomach(always a good idea).
The food is above average pub fare with a good variety of choices. I ordered the colossal burger(minus the guacamole) and it was excellent and was served up with a large portion of fries. The food seemed fresh and was prepared the way I odered it(always a plus).
After my lunch I was ready for the ABT12 and this brew, which I've enjoyed many times from a bottle was even better on draft.
As far as the crowd goes, in all my visits I have found a friendly, sociable crowd of beer lovers there with the average age of the patrons appearing to be around 40ish. On this visit I was there to watch the Patriots game as well as the Red Sox playoff game and enjoy some great brews and some good company and I wasn't dissappointed in either respect.
All in all this is the spot to go in Rhode Island if you're a beer connoisseur

If you like great beer, a relaxed atmosphere and delicious pub food then pull up a stool and make yourself comfortable. This place has a great variety of beer and all the usual pub food favorites and then some. This is the type of place you can just come into and unwind from your day.

If you’re not sure if you like one of the many micros on tap just ask for a taste and the bartenders (Sara, Bobbie & Marie) and/or owners (Mark & Frank) will gladly give you a sample. A new 12 head tap is being put in as I type this and this will give them 22 taps in all. (as of mid-March all 22 are up and running) Two taps are usually dedicated to Bud, Bud/Coors light to keep the people that don’t like to experiment happy) They usually carry 40-50 types of beers in bottles and growlers as well. If you can’t find something you like in this bar, you’re not trying very hard. The staff is also more than happy to make suggestions if you let them know the style of beer you enjoy. Belgian, IPA, Porter, ESB, Stout, Red Ales. Brown Ales, Pale Ales and the usual Corona, Bud and Miller products….it’s all here. As I said, the food is good too and the portions are BIG. You won’t leave here thirsty or hungry. Just don’t come in on Tuesdays or Thursdays. That’s when I’m there and I don’t want to loose my seat! (Although Sara does usually find a spot at the bar for my wife and I to sit –thanks Sara!).

Talk about a diamond in the rough!

I decided to finally check this place out after a trip to buy homebrew supplies. I have a feeling that this was the first of many visits!

For me, the real charm in this place lies in the laid back atmosphere. On the surface, it appears to be any neighborhood bar. It is not upscale, over-priced or presumptuous. We sat down, ordered a couple of beers and enjoyed good conversation with the other patrons at the bar. Very friendly, down-to-earth atmosphere. I find this to be a rarity among beer bars with worldly selections.

The service was excellent. The owner approached us and introduced himself. He spent some time chatting about beer and plans for expanding the pub's draft lines in the near future. Great guy! The bar staff was also friendly and helpful.

They feature a great selection. I saw quite a large bottle selection with a few Belgians on draft, as well as some micros. The selection is constantly changing to keep things fresh and exciting. We kicked a keg of Scaldis, which was promptly replaced by Triple Imperial. The glass selection was also spot on. Hell yeah!

The food was standard pub fair. The portions are large and the food is tasty.

One of the highlights of the trip was paying our bar tab. One of the best values in beer!

I'd been hearng a lot of buzz about Pitchers and decided to check it out myself...and I was glad I did. It's a small, clean pub that is focusing on giving the craft beer drinker choices...and I found plenty that I liked.
First, the service at the bar was friendly and put me at ease...a lost art among bartenders these days. I had a reuben and a heaping helping of french fries..a great value for the price.
And now, the beer...I tried the Leatherlips on draft as well as the CaskZilla...both were fresh and their bottle selection had a nice balance between styles of the micos. They have a good selection of bombers that rotates as well. The one challenge, as noted in another review, was the beer list wasn't quite up to date. I saw a few new ones in the cooler after I ordered that weren't listed, and at least one that was gone. Was this a major thing? No. When that is the only downer of a visit, you know you are having a great time...and the selections I made kept me happy indeed. I"m looking forward to going back...good beer, good food and friendly folks around the bar...i'm a fan.

I have been down here twice in the last year since I am living in CT. But I am glad to see a new beer bar open in RI especially in my home town of Cumberland. Many great brews to choose from. Tons of bottles and growlers and 22oz bombers. They also have a wide variety on tap that is constantly changing. They have to carry Bud and Bud light for a year but then they have free rein. Great to see so many friendly faces and other people knowledgeable about beer. The owners are great guys and they know there stuff. Fun to sit back and talk about different beers. They have a stack of Yankee Brew News at the door and are always looking for new brews to get a hold of. Decent food pub fare with good sized portions. My buddies and I stayed for a really long time on Wednesday night before the Newport Storm tasting. We were lucky enough to try a special IPA they had stashed for later. I think it was around 11% or so. We had a great time and I wish I was back in the area because I would get down to Pitcher's quite often.

Lots of selection and great staff. Really nice owners and a decent crowd. They take the time to talk to you because they are so passionate about the beers they serve just like the brewers are that make them. It is a great little place but really worth the trip. I will be going back for sure. I hope they get some more BBC soon. Constantly changing taps and new bottles. I had a bunch of great Belgium beers. Like Houblan Chouffe and another. Caskgazilla was in a bottle which was awesome. The Rogue Chocolate stout was in a 22oz. They also had the Unearthly by Southern Tier Brewery very nice Double IPA on tap. They also gave us a special 22oz treat of the 25th yr. anniversary Great American Beer Festival brew. There were a few of us there and we were treated very well. It makes sense to go with a few people so you can get a growler or a few 22oz and really get a great mix of beers.

This bar is really starting to take shape since the first time I have been. They are adding new product and really making it work. I hope that other people who have gone and had a different experince go back and try it again. Some of the local guys are picking up a pint rather than a long neck. Cumberland is a tough place to open a beer bar since the town runs on the Big three. But hopefully word of mouth and some select advertising will keep this place thriving for years. I will recomend Pitcher's to anyone I know and I will certainly be there come Christmas time.

Been planing on going here for some time and I am happy that I finally went. Was lucky enough to go here on the night of the Newport Storm tasting.

You would think with a name like Pitcher's Pub this would be a sports bar but it is not. Nice bar that sits around 16-20 and an area with tables that sits around the same. Couple tv's, keno, your regular bar stuff. The bartender Sara knew about the beers and made recommendations. Asked us if we wanted a frosted or warm glass. When me and my buddy showed up the place was quiet but it filled up pretty quick with the usual patrons and some people that were here for the tasting. Sara was on top of things and kept our glasses full even though the place was busy. We met the owners Mark and Frank. They had two or three commercial brews on tap and the rest were from, Southern Tier, Harpoon, Bluepoint, Newport Storm, Lagunitas. The beer was fresh and was told the selections change all the time. Had the specials that were on the board and the food was good. Ended up spending $25 for food, some drink and a tip.

This is a really nice place. It is much needed for this part of the state. Definitely will be going back.

This place is NOT a sports bar. It has a few TVs with sports on them and some varied items on the walls like a bat with the Name of the place and other items. The volume on the TVs is kept down to allow people to talk to each other. The beer selection is great when you compare it to 99 percent of the state. Freak Out had just been tapped and Dogfish Punkin and Raison was on as well. A few Bud taps but a business needs to keep business so there you are. Sara, the bartender is well-versed in beer knowledge and will even sample new stuff when it is brought in. Mark and Frank the owners -when not running around changing kegs and making food will come over and sit down and talk for a while. the overall atmosphere of the place is cozy and low-key. The beer list will show you what they can have at any moment but they don't always have all of the beers listed but what bar on the planet doesn't have this issue. I have always had a great time when I go there.

01-20-08 Much improved selection, and more taps, plus a beer engine on the way. The owners have lived up to their talk, they've been steadily improving the beer line up. Way to go.

10-03-06 Let’s start with the sad truth: if you are visiting Rhode Island from pretty much any other part of the developed world and are looking for beer-bars, you should prepare to be disappointed. Because up until recently there was absolutely zero interest from any bar to offer a wide range of unique tap and bottled selections. But times may be changing as Pitcher’s Pub presents itself as the second bar (Track 84 in Warwick being the first) where the emphasis is placed squarely on the beer.

So what’s the problem with Little Rhody you might ask? Well a quick look at either of these bars will show you what the owners are up against: a strong local bias for macro-brews and a maniacal desire by the main distribution centers to clog their coolers with pallets of Bud and Miller. Given that type of system, it takes a strong willed person to push for change.

Anyway, how about Pitcher’s? Exactly what do you get for your 15 minute ride North of Providence? Well currently it’s ten taps and about three-dozen bottles. Though that’s soon to change as, according to Mark, one of the owners, another 4-head tap system is on its way along with a beer engine. As for selection it was mostly American Craft Brews (Dogfish Head, Blue Point, Long Trail, etc.). I did see one Bud tap, but not 4, and it was similar for bottles with the inclusion of a single oh-so-lonely-Belgian (Gulden Draak). The bar is very much a local watering hole, so don’t expect any of the faux English pub nonsense, just a rectangular bar with a couple dozen stools and another open-seating area with 8 or 10 tables.

My first and only visit so far, was an after work stop with a friend. And as bizarre as this may sound, I had the exact experience as ybnorml had (see the review below), right down to ordering a burger and a Rueben, there was however, one major difference – my experience was completely positive.

Within 1 minute of sitting down the bartender (Sarah) introduced herself and handed me a beer list for the bottles. She was back a minute or two later, poured my Blue Point ESB (a fantastic beer) in a room-temp glass, and served me a big basket of potato chips. Within 10 minutes the first of the two owners (Frank) came over and shook my hand and within 15 minutes the second owner (Mark) walked over and actually pulled up a stool and chatted with us a bit.
We ordered a few more beers: I had the Blue Point Oatmeal Stout on tap which was nice, and a Christian Meorlein Select Dunkle from a bottle – not so nice. My burger, the bigger version of the two offered on the menu, was huge and delicious, and the Ruben (my wife ended up meeting us) was also great. Maybe I’m an easy sell, but I was suitably impressed.

So why two completely different reviews? I can’t say, and while I don’t doubt ybnorml’s experience for a minute, I do hope he gives the place another chance as it’s an up-hill battle these owners are fighting, (as evidenced by the numerous Bud and MGD bottles still being served) and they’ve only been at it for a little over six months.

I guess the bottom line for me is that these guys are trying. They are bringing in new product, asking for advice, and trying to educate the built-in crowd. And since Rhode Island could easily be a better place for beer I think we need to support the people trying to make that happen.

Pitchers pub. It's a sports bar. OK I get it. It is also a Budwieser bar. 4 of the taps are bud products and one is Coors light . The rest of the remaining taps break down like this ...: 4 bluepoint, 2 dogfishhead, 1 long trail, 1 berkshire and one newport storm. I had no idea whether or not they had any bottled beer other than bud light (cuz several folks had them in front of them). Looking around the bar there were no signs or stand up coolers to indicate any other craft beer seletions other than what was on draft. But I did ask and was handed a list of "40" beers some of which appeared to be on tap. Some that I knew for certian were no longer available in RI and as I asked about each of them the bartender confirmed my suspicions. The bartender although appeareing to be knowledgable about beer served every beer ( without heisitation and without asking) in a frosted glass. I also had to wait more than 5 minutes from every empty glass I had until I was asked about my next beer (and yes I did time it each time) The waitress waiting on the tables had no idea what a Hefe-weisen (or a Wit) was. And was completely befuddled by what a Dogfish was.
Food; my burger was OK but the corned beef in my companions rueben made her sick.
I don't think I need to rush back here.

I tried this place on Saturday, 9/2/06 around 9pm.
Small place, but looked very well-kept and was remarkably well-lit. It was busy but not packed and there was a musical performer playing. A very relaxed atmosphere overall.

I was welcomed very warmly when I sat at the bar and the service quite friendly and knowledgable about the beer. The selection was excellent for a place in this area. A lot of the beers they have aren't available in most liquor stores, much less a bar. Many of the 12-15 beers on-tap were ones that I hadn't seen on-tap before.

The food was pretty good, although I just had a simple burger, but I went there for the beer and not the food anyway. The price was quite reasonable. I paid about $20.00 plus tip for the burger and 3 pints.

I highly recommend the place and I plan on going back whenever I get the chance.

Who would believe that there is a bastion of micro brews located in Cumberland RI?

Pitcher's Pub is just that. I was in on a Saturday night and the place was rockin'. There was a two man band performing standard bar tunes but with some flair. They were pretty good. Now on to the important stuff....beer. They had plenty! There was something like sixteen beers on tap. They had a DFH handle (60 minute I believe) a few Harpoon's (ESB and Sun Rye), Hoptical Illusion (very tasty) Bass, Guinness, a couple of AB handles, Bluepoint, Ten Penny, and some more that I cannot recall. I believe all the drafts were either 3.50-4 which seemed very reasonable. The bottle menu was very diverse as well. I would guess they had about 30-40 micro bottles on hand.

I was there late night 11-1 so I did not try the food but it looked like a step up from just bar grub. The crowd was pretty young which was cool but everyone seemed really friendly. I met both of the new owners and they where extremely friendly and are very into the craft beer scene. The pours were unbelievable. The waitress had to walk very slowly and carefully the glasses were so full (beer right to the brim).

Overall it was a great experience and I will be back again. Highly recommended!
