Straight dank.

Light golden color with solid lacing.

Smell of marijuana and juicy hops.

Taste is very resiny, quite bitter on the tongue.

Very dry.

Poured from a 12oz can into my Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.

Moderately hazy marigold to amber gradient supports a lasting soft peaks; crenelated sticky lacing; superior retention.

Plentiful citrus in the nose with hints of green onion and papaya.

The palate entry is just about the perfect confluence of tangerine, papaya, and berry but this gives way to a slightly herbaceous, faintly spicy, green pepper quality that keeps it from being a juice bomb. Zesty, medium-dry, rich finish with a lingering bright bitterness and a hint of white tea.

Full, creamy mouth-feel with strong (but not excessive) carbonation and present but not unpleasant alcohol.

While it doesn't really match the simple pleasure of their perfectly crafted fresh Citra, this is an excellent IPA none-the-less.

The beer pours out a medium hazy dark golden color, with 1 finger of slightly off white head------------ the aromas are of Guava, dank weed, citrus, papaya, passion fruit, pine and orange------------- the flavors are of oranges, dank weed and pine with lesser papaya and guava, the beer has a medium mouthfeel with a moderate bitterness on the finish----------------- overall this beer was nice the aroma is the strong point of the beer, it smells like your walking down the fruit aisle at a super market, so pungent and ripe

12 ounce can poured into a tulip

A: Pours a hazy sunset golden orange with a bright white creamy full head, lots of lacing and decent retention, good amount of carbonation.

A: Lots of tropical like aromas up front, guava, papaya, mango, and peach skin, also getting some grapefruit peel, tangerines, and pine, no balance, it's all hops.

T: Like the nose there are big doses of tropical notes along with citrus and pine, finish has a slight note of sweet oranges, bitterness is moderate citrus peel and pine like notes, finish is citrus peel dry, alcohol is not noticeable on the flavor.

M: Medium bodied with a big dry finish and a good amount of carbonation, leaves a raked feeling on the palate.

O: I'm impressed with the beer's complexity and depth, lots of bitterness, and no balance with the malts. If you like hoppy West Coast style IPAs, then reach for this. I also think there is an added touch of newer style IPAs with the tropical and sweet citrus notes. Good stuff.

I had my eye on this one for the last few week or so. And like this one sporting women in Paris one fateful evening, I finally decided to finally pick it up. With the aroma this thang gives off, you’d think it was brewed in Humboldt County, rather than Kern, because the dang sucker is dank! We are talking Cheech and Chong vacationing in Maui, dank! And as the Raul man moves along, he is greeted by awesome, lush sticky kush and tropical fruits for daze on daze! The only thing Raul isn’t into, which he also noticed in Just Outstanding, is a lil bit of rocket fuel in the aftertaste. That being said, this is still a pretty good one.

Had this on tap at the brewery, but reviewing from growler to go. Into a nonic pint glass.

A: Vintage copper-tan, pale ale appearance, fairly clear as a wispy head quickl dissipates, leaving a trail of stick lacing.

S: Aromas yield wafts of citrus zest, tropical tones. Notes of papaya play off honeyed buscuits, as tones of snappy dried grass dry things out.

T: Sweeter on the palate than the nose portends, not as tropical either. Notes of orange zest, lemon pepper and pine are rounded by sweet bread and earthy tea. A little boozy toward the back of the sip, which closes with a medium, bittersweet finish.

A tasty IPA with Kern's signature hop-profile. If i remember they had the brew tagged with an ABV of 6.9 - 7.2%.

West coast IPA in a can! This one needs to be poured into a glass to let the citrus and pine take over the senses. Nice taste of tropical fruit, with a zesty citrus/pine finish.

On-draught @ Kern River Brewing.

7% ABV. IPA.

Pours a murky orange, somewhat dull. Head is white in colour. Average (~2 minute) head retention.

Aroma brings fresh citrus, juicy notes, some mango puree, tangerine, tropical fruit peel, pineapple, and some kind of adjunct (oats, I suspect, or maybe wheat).

Taste follows, with citrusy tangerine peel and tropical pineapple competing for the title over a pale malt base. Bitterness is restrained...I suspect it's muted by oat or wheat adjunct instead of by the malty sweetness; hop pungency and depth of flavour are restrained as a result. The hop profile is pleasant but each constituent hop note lacks the vividness and expressiveness observed in the best expressions of the IPA style. Finishes with traces of hop resin and a scintilla of hop oil.

Smooth, wet, aptly medium-bodied, somewhat refreshing, and of moderate getting on the palate. Well-carbonated. Not chewy or oily. Not boozy, astringent, harsh, scratchy, or gushed.

Highly drinkable but worse for its obvious "hazy IPA" influence. Kern River would be best off sticking to cleaner more pungent traditional so-called "West Coast" IPAs with more natural concomitant bitterness. Well worth trying if you happen upon it, bit not up there with Kern River's finest beers in the style. Still, it's tough to measure up to your other IPAs when at least a couple of those beers happen to be amongst the best regarded in the country.

Right on the verge of being a beer I'd buy regularly in sixer format at a $10-$12 price point.

Can from 02/05/18 into a tulip glass.

L: Pours vibrant copper with 2+ fingers for low density white frothy head with moderate retention and left mixed lacing.

S: Fragrant aroma, lots of pine and floral attributes. Hints of citrus, some tropical aspects appear as it warms.

T: Follows the nose well but with greater prominence of the citrus. Finishes with moderate bitterness, limited astringency, and both clear palate quickly.

F: Medium bodied, medium carbonation, subtle warming of the tongue from the ABV. slick finish.

O: A very welcomed new West Coast IPA recipe, but with a slightly more modern take. Definitely will be grabbing this one again.

A somewhat murky gold pour. White head. Aroma is passion fruit/guava. Taste is similar. A little too fruity for my taste. Feel is medium bodied. Overall, a nice example of the style if you're into that passion fruit flavor.

I am having it for breakfast after coffee. I find this more appealing than Just Outstanding, which I cannot tolerate. Chuuurch has a sweeter start with a finish lacking the hop attack of JO. I find it closer to Citra.
