22 oz wax-tipped bomber, into a snifter

Dark brown, nearly black in color. A gentle pour yields a small, coffee-tan head that's quickly pulled down by its own weight.

Strong aromas in the nose; licorice and unsweetened cocoa lead the charge. Burnt sugar, oak, vanilla and hints of cherry. Alcohol is well masked.

Bourbon-y sweet on the palate, with lots of vanilla and cocoa sweetness. Getting that cherry thing here as well...almost bends the flavors toward cherry cola (Dr. Pepper), but not in treacly way. Plenty of oak and grassy aspects help balance things out, and alcohol is an afterthought. Medium finish with very little alcohol burn.

Super tasty and easy to drink. Not sure it's as good as Class X, but probably the best BBA stout Kern has done since.

Tulip glass
Dark pour with 1 finger khaki head.
Smells of bourbon and wood.
Taste is a glorious chocolate bourbon that finishes sweet.
The mouthfeel is La Brea thick.
Overall, this is one of the best bourbon barrel aged stouts.
It is mighty powerful and is melting my brain. Be careful.

Way better than Igor with less alcohol burn in the finish. I find it a better than Class 5 for my tastes. A 22 oz bottle of this is a nice way to drink my brunch, and it doesn’t give the headache Igor delivers with a vengeance.

22 ounce bottle poured into a snifter

Pours pitch black with no light coming through except a slight tint around the edges, head was full and lightly mocha colored, very little carbonation, slight lacing.
Big char and smoke aromas along with dark chocolate, espresso, and dark berries, no alcohol on the nose, big aromas, smells promising.
Follows the nose with huge flavors of smoke and char, lots of dark chocolate and espresso, touch of sweet dark berries like blackberries and blueberries, touch of alcohol and hops as well, finish is dry with lingering notes of char, smoke, chocolate, and coffee, moderate amount of espresso and dark chocolate like bitterness, very balanced and flavorful.
Full bodied with low carbonation and a dry char and smoke like finish, very little carbonation.

If you like imperial stouts with smoke, char, espresso, dark chocolate, and dark berries, then this imperial stout is for you, has a sweet note that is not often found in imperial stouts, it's balanced, smooth, drinkable, and I'm guessing would probably age well.
