22oz bottle poured into a Duvel tulip
No date/freshness info on the bottle
Got this in a trade from RichBeer, thanks Rich!

reviewed from notes from a tasting last weekend

A-> Pours a beautiful tawny/amber-ish color with a huge 2 finger head. Looks unfiltered. Some lace but not too much.

S-> Hard to place, bouquet is muted a bit with musty hoppy scents but nothing overly floral or fruity. Some faint pine, we'll see what the taste brings....(After some warming/swirling, I do finally get some citrus fruits in the nose)

T-> Bitter hops up front but immediately balanced out by some sweet malts in the middle and towards the finish. Ends back with the dry hoppy bite. Deliciously well balanced. Much more fruity towards the end of the bomber than at first.

M-> Light feel for the style but I think I have just been drinking too many IIPAs lately...nice to have one that is dialed back a bit and yet still so refreshing and balanced. Really get the full flavors after the swallow, on the aftertaste.

O-> This beer was terrific. It is "just" an IPA, not trying to be something it's not or fooling you into one side of the flavor/aroma spectrum either. Nothing really up in your face about it like so many other West Coast IPAs, which is a refreshing change. Still fairly strong @ 6.8% for a single-IPA but again, very well balanced, not bombing you with hops, has a nice malt complement. Would have this again in a heartbeat...

Surprisingly pulpy orange appearance; very nearly opaque. Modest head production and retention.

Hops are quite restrained on the nose, but there's no hint of staleness. Slightly tropical, slightly citric, and a bit of both pale and caramel malt. This beer is hiding its goodness from my nose!

Plenty of flavor on the palate, though. Initial notes of grapefruit and pine, but a big juicy wave of melon and mango quickly follows. There is indeed a good deal of malt balance, as well: slightly grainy caramel, brown sugar, and sweet pale malt.

Easy drinking and smooth. Lively with little sting.

A beer like this would be hard pressed to live up to its name, but it's still very tasty.

This is an exemplary ale. I only have one of these left from my second six-pack this month, and I think I'm going to have to pick it up again if it's still on shelves locally.

L: Poured hard into a goblet, it produces ample bone-white head, which settles into a film of snowy billows with thick sheets of lacing to match. A faintly hazy and somewhat viscous honey-colored body reveals several fine streams of tiny bubbles throughout.

S: Fruity and enticing. Pine jumps out, as does lemon rind, followed by orange juice, and a hint of passion and piña, then mango takes over for a good second, coming finally into an an herbal finish with muddled mint and pine over yeasty pizza dough.

T: Would be incredible, except the hop profile leans too far on the herbal side for my taste. Drowns out all the lovely fruity character. I taste mostly grapefruit pith, passion fruit, mango, and pine. A touch of malty sweetness balances it out.

F: Very nice. Truly medium bodied. Plenty of smooth texture, but light enough to crush.

O: Just outstanding: not mind-blowing, but a head and shoulders above the median. A-

Pours into an imperial nonic a deep orange tinged brass color with a large blooming slight off white head atop that leaves multiple broken rings of lace as it settles ever so slowly.Aromas of grapefruit rind and herbal hops over top of biscuit malts.Pretty outstanding flavors with sharp grapefruit and resin-like hops winning out over sweetish caramel/biscuit dough maltiness.A big hopped up left coast ipa,as good as I thought it would be.

Appearance - This beer blew up when I opened it and once I actually got it in the glass it looked like a mud puddle. Not very appealing.

Smell - The dry-hopping jumps out of the glass. There's almost you could say two different bouquets. The first one that you get is pure, fresh hops, strongly citrus. The next is the bulk of the ale which is a thick, heavy caramel malt with lighter yet still citrus-based hops.

Taste - The hops are huge at the taste as well so this isn't just some cheap dry-hopping to pep up an inferior ale. The hop flavor is throughout from beginning to end, and the fine Simcoe in particular defines the profile. The other nice surprise here is, although it's not a double, the malt profile is as strong as a lot of doubles. They are creamy, gooey malts with lots of cane sugar flavor.

Mouthfeel - This is huge for a non-double IPA, I'd say bigger than medium-bodied, and very, very smooth in the mouth. The bitterness manages to be big but non-intrusive and although the ale foamed over when opened the carbs are quite mild.

Drinkability - This is an explosive ale that basically has all of the big characteristics of a double except the alcohol content.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #63 (Apr 2012):

LOOK: Dirty peach; thick, creamy white head

SMELL: Intensely floral, orange grove, catty, mint, hemp seed, vegetal, clean alcohol, cookie dough

TASTE: Piney hop, chocolate mint, fresh citric fruits, bready malt backbone, warming alcohol, very juicy, hemp, faint cattiness, yeast, fresh-cut grass, aspirin, caramel, hoppy finish

“Just Outstanding” and “The Name Says It All” might look cool on a label, but it's a ballsy stretch and honestly, we simply expected much more. In a world saturated with IPAs, this one is actually “just good,” which ain't bad either, but it ain't all that.

Poured into my new belgium tulip.

Pours a straw yellow with a big thick white head. In the glass the beer is a little cloudy and more orange in color. The hear remain sticky and laces well. The head is beautiful the beer itself is ehh.

The aroma is pineapples and passion fruit. The aroma is all hops and all fruity. not sure where i stand i like it a lot but it seems lacking.

The taste matches the aroma tropical fruits and a slight bitter finish. A tasty brew but it lacks a little definition in the complexity of the hop profile.

I can see how people would love this brew i like it but I'm not in love with it. tropical fruit ipas apparently aren't my thing.

Cheers to solomon420 for this brew in a trade. Amber in color. Thin head which settles to no head. Big nose of citrus and piney hops. Taste is dominated by the bitter grapefruit-like hop profile. Mouthfeel is a bit dry but still drinkable. My 1st beer from this brewery & it was a good one if you are a hop-head.

Cheers.

First experience with this brewery. Pours clear copper with a medium white head. Good lacing. Earthy, kind of barnyard noseful of hops. If you are familiar with the area where this beer is brewed, it smells like that. Its uncanny and only adds to this beer's character. Smooth, clean mouthfeel with a long finish. Taste is bitter and earthy. The Amarillo hops are the boss in this one; peppery, earthy, piney, and bitter. The Simcoe is a nice compliment, but take a backseat to the Amarillos. Hefty malt, but as is my favorite, they also take a backseat and don't turn the beer into a sticky, candy mess. This is a true single IPA that packs a strong hops punch. Love it.

22oz bomber poured into a taster.

Pours a really pale light hazy color with a small white head. Nose is light, a bit hoppy but not over the top, more like a pale ale.

Taste is also like a pale. There at hops but it's not over the top hop. Mouthfeel is a bit chewy and creamy, overall deceit as a pale.
