Thanks to Solomon420 for a very generous trade!

Pours a glowing amber with two fingers of head that leave some good lacing on the way down.

Smell is an extremely juicy blend of citrus and floral notes. This one is pretty damn potent and inviting. I even ended up with foam up my nose because I kept wanting to get closer and closer.

The taste doesn't quite have that same effect. I like the hop profile but it isn't quite defined enough, nor is it balanced with the malts. I'm getting more of a bitter-hop-mixed-with-water type taste. Still, its not bad and there aren't any unpleasant flavors present.

Mouthfeel is medium but a tad too thin for the style. Although this goes down quite smooth, drinkability is lacking due to the the less than glowing flavor profile. Not a bad brew by any means, but a lot of IPA's are starting to blend together for me and it takes something special to stand out from the pack.

Cloudy orange brew with a white head that leaves a bit of lacing. The smell is very bitter with some sweetness and fruit behind. The taste is slightly sweet with a little fruit and a ton of bitterness. Pretty solid beer.

Pours a cloudy amber- light brown with an off white head with decent retention.

Citrus and tropical fruits are prominent followed by some pine, light caramel malt sweetness and some bread.

Sadly, the taste isn't as lively as the aroma. I will start off with the positives. This beer is very well balanced. Unfortunately I felt that the taste was somehow muddled or subdued, and there was some lingering harshness. The bitterness hit late and in waves, as opposed to steady crescendo reaching curve. Faint orange citrus flavor and pine along with some light mango, bread and caramel. As far as prominent flavors go, its fairly one noted with some supporting players that must have had their lines cut.

The mouthfeel was a little disappointing. A little more carbonation and body would have helped this beer out. Felt a little thin to me.

Overall a solid IPA, just not one of the better ones I have had. Drinkability is there, taste is another story. Just outstanding? Possibly. However based on the bottle I had it was Just OK.

A - Pours a nice golden/amber hue with a rich creamy two finger head. Looks very inviting.

S - nice west coast citrus hop profile, but the aroma is a bit muted. Not the hop blast was hoping for. A bit of malt in the background, but mostly hops dominate here.

T - tasty citrus/tropical/a bit of pine here. While tasty, it is a bit muted like the smell. I was looking for more of a hop blast again.

M - Nice thick and creamy mouthfeel. Coat nicely and reminds me of the thickness of Pliny.

Overall this is a tasty, hop forward IPA that falls short of being excellent (or outsanding in this case). I'm happy to have tried it but there are much better IPAs to be had.

22oz bomber split with oglmcdgl, thanks to marisatheyounger for the assist.

In the pint glass, Just Outstanding looks pale golden with some orange accents, maybe a touch of straw. A sturdy 3 fingas of dense bright white foam reminding me of alesmith IPA, nice clunks.

Smell is str8 up floral with citrus in the back. I believe some chinnook and centennial are in here for effect. a nice malt base. Pretty potent smell coming from this EyePEEAAA.

I was takin back from the first sips, i thought it was me, but the hop juice just is not this beers forte. More floral in nature than a outright hopbomb. A nice mix of floral hop taste with earth and a touch of grain with a fruity middle drowned out by a nice malt base that is biscuits and bread, low amounts of sweets like caramel and the like.

Feel is at about medium with a lively carb that approaches bitey yet not quite. Not oily in any way im digging the feel. The only thing outstanging was the scent. The taste kinda let me down but all in all this beer is a good look.

Five ounces poured into a pint glass. Bomber shared with four other guys.

3.5 A: A hazed medium orange color. One finger of frothy off white head with below average retention.

4.5 S: Wonderful bouquet! Tons of orange, pineapple, and grapefruit. Flowery as well. A bit one dimensional, but damn does it smell nice.

3.5 T: Moderate bitterness. Orange and pineapple again, but not nearly as vibrant as in the nose. Good, but just good.

3.5 M: Lighter medium body. Active carbonation. Smooth, but could be creamier.

3.5 D: Not bad, but really doesn't hold a candle up to the DIPA. Not enough hop flavor to make up for the lack of maltiness. A more apt name for this beer might be "Simply Average."

650ml bottle.

It pours an amberish orange with a large off-white head that is pretty soapy and foamy.

The smell is interesting. Nice grassiness, passion fruit, almost soapy citrus. There is something about it though that is just a touch off.

The flavor is nice. A round flavor with low bitterness to start, some fruitiness, a bit of grassiness, the finish is a medium/low herbal bitter.

This is a good beer once you get into it. Not too flashy but rather solid.

An extra from the very generous Solomon420. Thank you, Damian! The last 20 beers I've consumed have been German in origin, and I'm looking forward to an IPA! Plus, I haven't had anything from these guys.

A: Surprisingly dark for an IPA, this is a rather deep amber with a finger-thick off-white head. Retention is pretty good, and there's some lace as the head slowly recedes to a clumpy disk

S: Makes me think of a East/West Coast hybrid. Bright citrus hops with tangerine, plenty of tropical fruit with some mango and papaya, but there's also a pretty solid malt presence in this (if the color didn't give it away). Caramel sweetness that when combined with the citrus character is like candied oranges. Solid

T: Opens up mildly bitter with a mainly citrus character (orange skins) with some pine bitterness. Plenty of hop flavor, with orange, tangerines and some pine. The tropical fruit character i initially picked up on the nose is not really noticeable on the palate. A definite malt presence is noted, with a simple caramel character. The finish is mildly sweet, with mild hop bitterness

M: Medium-light in body, this beer is a touch disappointing on the palate. It feels a little watery, and the finish could use more bitterness.

D: The low alcohol and low bitterness makes this very easy to drink, and I can actually feel my palate after drinking this! I quite enjoyed it, and would not hesitate to try this again.

A: Pale Yellow with a white head. good carbonation.

S: piney bitter hops and some mild citrus in the background.

T: strong hop bit up front. I can taste the simco really well here. A significant amount of bitter pine and some lemon grass and a very dry finish.

M: medium light. Pretty standard for a regular American IPA.

D: not that smooth. Goes down pretty harsh, not going to sit here and drink a whole bunch of it.

Overall: As far as I know American IPA's are supposed to be really grassy and hoppy. So yes they did a nice job sticking to the style. It could be smoother though. Just seems kinda harsh going down. Still a decent example of an American IPA.

Kern River Just Outstanding IPA has a slightly hazy, light copper-coloroed body with numerous but irregular carbonation bubbles in it. The off-white head is soapy looking and is made up of mostly large bubbles. The retention is OK, but the lacing is very good.

The aroma has noticeable malt and hop characteristics. Lightly toasted pale malts mix with both citrus and floral aromas from the hops.

Just Outstanding is an easy drinking IPA with all kinds of hop flavor, low bitterness, and a noticeable malt backbone. The hops bring a good bit of bitterness, in conjunction with some citrus, but mainly floral and earthy flavors, with some pine resin thrown in. The malt backbone underneath does not equal the hops in intensity, but it is substantial. Toasted malts and biscuit flavors are what come with the malt profile. The finish is all bitterness and citrus.

A fairly light, highly carbonated IPA with a dry bitter finish.

Just outstanding is just good as far as I'm concerned. Well, a little better than good, but not outstanding. The flavor profile is nice, and for about five bucks a bomber I don't really have any complaints.

Thanks to Solomon420 for this extra

Pours a golden amber with a thick fluffy head and nice lacing

Smell brings out the simcoe with its tangerine/orange citrusy smell

taste has good orange citrus but the finish leaves a metallic taste mixed in with bitterness that I dont like.

mouthfeel is great carbonation up front and smooth/watery on the finish

a solid beer, but the finish is the killer for me

Consumed April 2nd, 2014 from an undated bottle. Poured into a standard pint glass.

Very clear light copper/brass color with a very creamy meringue-like yellow-white head two fingers tall. Plenty of sheeting/lacing as the fluid level went down.

Aroma is all hops: grassy and citrusy (lemons and grapefruit).

Flavor is hop forward, hop middle and hop backward. Massive bitterness hides almost everything else except for a barely-detectable crystal/caramel malt flavor, a touch of fresh grassiness and a ruby grapefruit note. Really, just about all hop flavor. Not much complexity to this.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly dry. Prickly if held on the tongue for a few moments.

Liquid hops. If that's your thing, you should enjoy this beer. If you're looking for something else, keep looking.

Poured from a bomber into a standard pint glass. This brew shows a clear and deep golden color with an inch of soapy white foam. Decent retention and lacing follow, holding a surface cap through the pint.

Nose is robust and floral. Rather enticing but short and thus a bit reaching. You gotta reach for it but it's good though brief when you get there. Becomes more piney as the head settles.

Taste is not so outstanding. Bit watery and with a thin hop bite though it does garner up a bit of steam as you adjust. Simple citric malts on the finish. Nice feel and drink with a well balanced bitterness on the finish.

Thanks go out to dgb3 for this extra. 22 oz. bottle poured into my Cigar City pint glass.

A: Clear amber color. The pour creates one finger of slightly off white head that leaves some spotty lace.

A: Earthy and citrus hops dominate, but the sweet malts bring an unexpected balance to this West Coast IPA.

T: Citrus and pine with a pronounced sweetness from the crystal malt. Mango, orange, pineapple, pear, and a little lime. It finishes bitter and dry as well it should.

M: Medium body, crisp and refreshing. Good amount of carbonation.

D and overall impression: Drinkability is above average with this one. Very nice balance, means I could put down a few of these. Overall, a really nice IPA, if I had access to this one, I would drink it often. Skal.

Pours a copper color with a sticky white head and plenty of lace. The aroma is quite hoppy filling the nostril with pine and citrus. The taste is piney and citrusy with a fair bitterness. Nice and drinkable, with a big pale malt body that leaves the beer balanced. Medium bodied, solid carbonation. Overall this is a very good ipa, with pine and citrus like hops.

A - Pours the typical clear orange copper color with a long lasting white head. Lots of lacing.

S - Kind of grainy and a little bit like under-attenuated beer, or unfermented wort. Very caramelly and a little bit cloying.

F/M - Clean bready malts with a little bit of caramel. Big floral, citrusy hops. Think grapefruit and oranges. Firm hop bitterness is just a little lower than I'd expect from a west coast brewed IPA, but very smooth nonetheless. The flavor is so much better than the initial aroma suggested. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Bitter hoppy aftertaste lingers for a bit.

D - Moderate hop bitterness and great citrusy hoppy flavors help this beer recover in the drinkability department. Leaving the malts in the far-far background really lets this beer shine as an easy drinking, hop-forward summertime IPA.

Bottle Date: presumably within the past couple months
Palate Contaminants: a pork chop

Appearance is a pleasant translucent medium amber with a fine foam head.

The smell is not strong at all. I definitely get malty sweetness, along with some candied citrus. It's good, but it doesn't have enough power for me to hear all the instruments.

Unfortunately, the taste isn't anything special. It's by no means bad, but it's a goose in a world of peacocks. There's hardly any sweetness, but it's also not particularly bitter. The main character is earthiness, mostly mossy, I'd say.

Feel is moderate weighted with fine carbonation. The aftertaste has more bitter character. Well-crafted, but missing the gustatory part isn't there for me.

Copper pour into a Firestone Walker nonic pint with brassy clarity, the off white head is clumpy and sticks around for a good while. The lacing is clumpy like the head and superior to most other IPAs.

There is quite an abundant amount of caramel and bready malt, sweetness is bordering toffee. Piercing alcohol is very sharp when the beer is cold but fades to complement a robust resiny and dank hop character, subtle notes of orange citrus rind and melon but overall piney and earthy. Powerful aroma but not my favorite profile.

Great balance provided by a great amount of sweet and bready malt, the flavor gets raw and rainy near the backend of the drink as bitterness and drying kicks up. Hop flavors follow the nose with pine resin, earthy, herbal flavors and a touch of sweet oranges. The finish is very dry, add a noticeable alcohol presence and the earthy bitterness is tea-like and bordering chalky and strong.

Surprisingly the robust malt has a medium body that is in no way overbearing. Average carbonation, high bitterness with a positive drying feel are all upsides to this beer. A knock on it would be the substantial ethanol feel despite the best efforts of the sweet malt.

Just Outstanding punches strong in aroma, taste and bitterness yet is out of my favored hop wheelhouse. The herbal and earthy pine flavors are deep and don't pop from this balanced IPA. A good beer, just not outstanding.

Pours deep gold with a medium veil and a positively massive pillow of rocky head that will be your constant companion during this beer and the next.

Greets the nose with a generous fruit salad: pineapple, honeydew, and lemon. Pine and garlic have a cameo appearance.

The mouthfeel is the only thing that's a bit off here. It's a bit thicker and creamier than usual and doesn't have quite enough carbonation to really bring out the full flavor of the hops.

Setting aside the mouthfeel, the taste is quite nice: complex fruit flavors, including a uniquely strong orange note are complimented by a light caramel backbone that provides substance without distracting from the hop-centric mission. The pine and garlic notes arise at the finish along with moderate bitterness that fades with a dry smack to the back of the throat. Overall a very nice, drinkable effort that's well worth a try.

Thanks to Scalene for this one via Light Whale BIF 2. Poured from a 22oz. bomber into a Sam Adams perfect pint. No bottling date.

A: Standard pour yields a massive, slowly upward creeping, frothy, 3 finger light creamsicle colored head with great retention. Beer is a semi-clear Lipton's tea color. Lacing is coarse and thick at the top and patchy towards the middle with great stick. A phenomenal looking beer.

S: Nose is aromatic. Tea leaves, pine, and citrus hoppiness. Cane sugar malt body in the background. Crisp and refreshing and very representative of the style.

T: Opens piney hop bitterness mixed with some tree sap and citrus sweetness towards the middle. Cane sugar comes in a bit but actually accentuates the hop presence. Grassy with notes of tree bark and tree sap. End has some caramel notes as well as more sap hoppiness. Finish is a spicy hop bitterness and mildly dry with a sticky hop presence that lingers in the aftertaste. Solid but not noteworthy.

M: Light bodied and well carbonated. Lively and prickly in the mouth and bubbly and abrasive going down. Crisp and refreshing. Finish is accented with an aftertaste that is sticky and lingers. Fairly standard.

O: Given their IIPA Citra, I expected a little more from this offering. This is a good beer but one that's fairly standard for its style. Worth trying as a benchmark IPA but there are better brews out there.

Big thanks to Odeed for this bonus bomber!
Pours a nice amber color with a nice offwhite head. Some lacing on the glass. Smell is balanced grainy maltiness and nicely fruity and piney hops. Taste has a bit of a gummy, fruity, floral quality about it, with a pleasant fruity hop flavor to match. Medium bodied with a touch of gummy chewiness. Really a clean, solid IPA.

Thanks Sean or this bottle

A 1 finger thick white head turns foamy with lots of big frothy bubbles forming. Head stays around for while and leaves ome nice lacing down the glass. Body is hazy orange with some signs of carbonation. Look very good.

S Sweet citrus like grapefruit and some tropical fruits like pineapple. A subtle bready malt in the nose as well bu mostly sweet hops.

T Subtle pine bitterness upfront followed by a wave of juicy sweetness. Nice session able IPA

M Lighter on the tongue with a medium carbonation, very easy to drink this stuff all day.

O Nice sweeter/fruit forward IPA. I wouldn't mind a little more bitterness, but a very solid IPA none the less

Appearance: Nice golden yellow, with slight brown highlights. The head is what stands out here. Foamy, plentiful and very sticky, the two-plus fingers of head leaves very thick lacing that is almost hard to even see through. Wow.

Aroma: The smell is lovely, I'd just love some more. There are lots of hops, mostly bringing floral, pine, and citrus notes. As it warms and the subtly malt asserts itself, the flavors get sweeter, almost with hints of mango and pineapple.

Taste: Hmm, I like the taste, but something is missing. There is a nice hop presence that starts with many flavors from the nose, but rather than gain any complexity as the malt becomes more pronounced, it just kind of turns more bitter. I was hoping that the taste would evolve like the scent did.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability: This has a lighter body than most, or so it seems. The lack of substantial malt and stong, but not overwhelming hops, help this one go down very easy and almost crisp on the finish.

Overall: A good IPA for sure, but not a top shelf entry. Just Outstanding? Not so much. How about Just A Good IPA?

Poured into a tulip. Thanks Ben! This pours with a large sticky head. The body is halfway between hazy orange and amber.

The aroma is heavy on the hoppy citrus peel. There is a very slight malt sweetness indicated in the aroma. Nothing too complex, just nice and hoppy.

The taste is a nice balance of citrus peel and a touch of breadcrumb.

This drinks nice and light, with a moderate dose of carbonation.

Really glad to have this one. I wouldn't mind getting more!

Thanks to Hayesez (probably 2/3 of my reviews start with that!)--From notes so a little vague

poured into a portsmouth snifter, started chilly and drank to room temperature. pours a dark, hazy orange with a thick creamy head that leaves a nice lacing on the glass as it dissipates. Smells of dark, sweet grapefruity hops, the citrus is complemented by a present but not dominant malt profile. taste is citrus hops first, with the sweet malty backbone taming it down, only to be replaced by a lasting, strong bitterness i could lick off my lips. it felt good in the mouth, but a little too carbonated for my specific tastes. never brutal, but the long-lasting bitterness could possibly me tiring.
