Consumed April 2nd, 2014 from an undated bottle. Poured into a standard pint glass.

Very clear light copper/brass color with a very creamy meringue-like yellow-white head two fingers tall. Plenty of sheeting/lacing as the fluid level went down.

Aroma is all hops: grassy and citrusy (lemons and grapefruit).

Flavor is hop forward, hop middle and hop backward. Massive bitterness hides almost everything else except for a barely-detectable crystal/caramel malt flavor, a touch of fresh grassiness and a ruby grapefruit note. Really, just about all hop flavor. Not much complexity to this.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly dry. Prickly if held on the tongue for a few moments.

Liquid hops. If that's your thing, you should enjoy this beer. If you're looking for something else, keep looking.

Served from a bomber into an Alchemist becher. No date.

Appearance- Clear amber with two finger fluffy white head that left nice lacing.

Smell- Lots of tropical and citrus frutis. Tons of pineapple actually. Nice floral hops, but tropical fruits dominate.

Taste- Big pine and grassy hops. The tropical fruits are not really in taste, but its the earthy notes and pine note that are there. finish is pretty much grapefruit.

Mouthfeel- Medium-full carbonation with medium-full body. Nice bitterness and very light heat.

Overall- This beer is Just Great, but I don't know if it's Just Outstanding.

The aroma has fresh juicy sweet oranges, mangoes, peaches, along with a slight resinous pine in the back.

The beer has lots of floral in the front, along with some of that fruity character in the aroma, but not much. There’s a light bready malt in the middle with a medium mouthfeel, but not really much sweetness, which is just what I look for in an IPA.

The finish is aggressively bitter of floral and big green pine. This beer has heavy bitterness.

In the end, I’m unsure if this is an older bottle, but the lack of hop flavor and strong bitterness is not really what I look for. Still, there are good characteristics like the aroma and malt body.

Poured from a 22 oz bomber into a tulip glass.

A - Beautiful clear golden amber with 2 fingers of light tan head. Retention is about 4-5 minutes and leaves foamy lacing down the glass.

S - Earthy and piney hops.

T - Lots of hop flavor up front, followed by a little bit of malt sweetness, and finished off by an earthy hop finish.

M - Plenty of carbonation. A little heavy, especially on the finish. Doesn't finish as clean or dry as some other west coast IPAs.

O - Lives up to its name for sure. I would call this an outstanding IPA. I bought 3 bottles with the intent of trading some, but we'll see how many make it that far.

Poured from a bottle into a 6 oz goblet (several refills are coming.). It forms a one finger head, nice lacing, very hazy, lovely! The aroma is a heady biting ruby grapefruit, not an ordinary yellow grapefruit. The flavor is a Lyle sweet and malt at first, then strong grapefruit citrus hops, with a hint of sweet mangoes. The grapefruit aroma goes up into the nose and sinuses. The mouthfeel is a bit foamy. Overall an outstanding IPA, with a unique character.

Another big thanks to Marco_Gtz for this.

Poured from a 22oz bottle, no #freshbeer info.

A hazy, honey colored body appears in the glass with a lop sided generous head. Ring after ring of lacing is left behind. Fresh sharp citrus in the aroma, very floral with a sweet edge. Taste is a deep resiny flavor, strong malt, citrus fruit just explodes on the palate, dry bitter hops in the finish, bitter grapefruit. More raw than the Citra but good nonetheless.

22oz bottle that Doug opened up. Thanks man. Poured into a Bell's snifter today, 3/11/2014.

App- Dark brown-caramel, a bit hazy and opaque. Very strange for a west coast IPA. Comes with a one finger white head, fair retention and fair lacing.

Smell- Caramel, toffee, grapefruit, lemon and a bit of pine. More on the malty side. Don't know how old this is, but the hops are certainly there.

Flavour- Not particularly interesting. Caramel malt backbone is here, a bit of grapefruit and mango, with a nice pine backend that is fairly bitter. Not mindblowing by any stretch.

Mouthfeel- Nice creamy, medium bodied, not watery at all. Quite bitter even for the style, coats the tongue in pure IBU. In fact, the bitterness stands out the most in terms of the character of this beer.

Overall- Decent IPA, nothing mind-blowing or special. I can find IPAs like this fairly easily here in Madison, Wisconsin. Good extra, certainly nothing worth trading for.

A - Builds a nice lively two finger head on the pour. The head dissipates but a then layers lingers around. The color is a pretty lite amber but cloudy. If I hadn't seen a pliny for comparison this would look better.

S - Nommy citrusy goodness. Grapefruits in there. Lemon and orange peel maybe?. Some pine in there too. Smells good and better than the previous times I've had it.

T- Taste is less than the nose. Less of the citrus and grapefruit, ect with the added bitterness of an IPA. Pineyness is still there in the taste.

M - Very silky for an IPA. Tiny little bubbles softening the beer when you drink. Like it alot.

Overall - Just started doing reviews. Having to think through the various aspects of this beer makes me think it's better than I've considered it in the past. However this weekend I drank it on tap at the brewery side by side with citra and the citra blew my mind in comparison. If not for the side by side this would be higher I think. But that's what side by sides are for :)

A: A vibrant and hazy golden with an orange hue, minimal off-white head.

S: Juicy citrus, slight hop dankness, and more fresh citrus. Guava, grapefruit, pineapple, and stone fruit.

T/M: Smooth medium body with moderate carbonation. Weak and mild malt flavors with a little bit of a subdued hop presence. Very subdued overall -- not up front with anything. There is a slight hint of apricot juiciness. The finish is very slightly malty with a mild bitterness.

O: Really quite nice all around. This beer does not do anything loudly, so it's hard to absolutely love or hate anything about it. Really drinkable, but also really forgettable.

Poured 22oz bottle into New Belguim globe. No dated but smells fresh.

A-Golden amber with a thick 3 finger head. Very decent lacing.

S-Citrus, very floral, a ton of grapefruit, some pine and just a bit of biscuits. The smell isnt huge but it delivers nothing but hops.

T-Very juicy beer, oranges. citrus, pine, bitter grapefruit, with thick malt.

M: Medium body with medium bitterness and a very sticky end. Nice carbonation.

O:Just Outstanding! Now I want to ride the trail!

Poured from a bottle into a snifter. No date on the bottle but it smells really fresh. Appearance is very dark for an IPA. A little orange showing through but it's almost entirely brown. Smell is like sticking your face into a bag of citra hops but I can also already tell that this beer has a solid malt backbone. Taste cofirms what the nose already told me. A very nice balance between citrus and piny hops backed up by bready malts. A delicious and balanced IPA!

Copper pour into a Firestone Walker nonic pint with brassy clarity, the off white head is clumpy and sticks around for a good while. The lacing is clumpy like the head and superior to most other IPAs.

There is quite an abundant amount of caramel and bready malt, sweetness is bordering toffee. Piercing alcohol is very sharp when the beer is cold but fades to complement a robust resiny and dank hop character, subtle notes of orange citrus rind and melon but overall piney and earthy. Powerful aroma but not my favorite profile.

Great balance provided by a great amount of sweet and bready malt, the flavor gets raw and rainy near the backend of the drink as bitterness and drying kicks up. Hop flavors follow the nose with pine resin, earthy, herbal flavors and a touch of sweet oranges. The finish is very dry, add a noticeable alcohol presence and the earthy bitterness is tea-like and bordering chalky and strong.

Surprisingly the robust malt has a medium body that is in no way overbearing. Average carbonation, high bitterness with a positive drying feel are all upsides to this beer. A knock on it would be the substantial ethanol feel despite the best efforts of the sweet malt.

Just Outstanding punches strong in aroma, taste and bitterness yet is out of my favored hop wheelhouse. The herbal and earthy pine flavors are deep and don't pop from this balanced IPA. A good beer, just not outstanding.

A: Hazy opaque orange with a faint white ring of head.

S: Pineapple, mango, tangerine, the nose is amazing and almost nectary.

T: Really fresh Orange, mango, pineapple, pine, nectary and delicious.

M: Medium bodied and smooth, the polar opposite of the typical harsh IPA mouthfeel.

O: I love this IPA. I wish they distributed their beer.

Thanks to Orthodoxkardia for this one.

22oz bottle. Pours a cloudy dark amber color with a thin layer of head. Good amount of lacing. Very nice tropical fruit aroma. Pineapple, sweet grapefruit and orange with some mango. The taste is more of that juicy tropical fruit flavor. Grapefruit and pineapple with some sweet piney hops. Bitter orange peel with floral notes towards the end. Pine at the finish. Very oily. Heavy mouthfeel. Tastes a little bit boozier than then 6.8% ABV. This is an IPA that really seems like an Imperial. Overall, fantastic West Coast IPA.

It pours an amberish orange with a large off-white head that is pretty soapy and foamy. The smell is interesting. Nice grassiness, passion fruit, almost soapy citrus. There is something about it though that is just a touch off. The flavor is nice. A round flavor with low bitterness to start, some fruitiness, a bit of grassiness, the finish is a medium/low herbal bitter. This is a good beer once you get into it. Not too flashy but rather solid.

"peach" definitely describes the color of the liquid, and an almost 'peach' head with mounds of 'white' defining the almost lumpy landscape sitting on top. awesome sight when poured with lots of mix and beautiful swirling. looks beautiful but lacks some carbonation.
orange-y, tangerine-y, orange-rind aromas....
grapefruit and orange on the palate, and grapefruit rind. lots of bitter-y zest. very nice, easy to drink. not something I can drink several in succession of due to personal preferences, but I DID separate it from the Pliny with a DOWNTOWN BROWN from North Coast . . . . so, yeah, I can drink a few of these. very good brew, indeed!

Thanks to grze for sending me this bottle... as an extra believe it or not...

A- hazy peach orange color with an "outstanding" 2-3/4in antique white rocky, pillowy head... stuck around a damn good amount... left a superb amount of soapy lacing..

S- Candied oranges, pineapple and grapefruit... so sweet smelling at first... followed by a good hop punch ending in a grassy alcohol smell with the hopps lingering...

T- followed the nose in order as well... great lingering bitterness that wasn't overpowering. Its a good balance and is not one sided.. you get a good sweet citrus hot at first then the hoppiness comes thru and makes you know your drinking an ipa.

M- Creamy medium bodied with a juicy finish

O- Had high hopes for this one and it did not let down.... I had a lot of great, high rated ipa's this year and this one is definitely up there.. would have a hard time chosing others if this was around. Definitely Recommend and thanks again grze

Served from a growler from my trip to Kern.

A: Tall, frothy white head that settles to half a finger and leaves wonderful creamy lacing. Orange and nicely carbonated. When I think IPA, this is the image I have in mind. Can't fault it.

S: Juicy citrus goodness. Orange and mango up front. Pine needles, lovely backbone.

T: Starts with that sweet tropical & citrusy fruitiness. Middle of the tongue is melding of mostly sweet with a tad bitter hop end. Bready, biscuity malt backs up with not too much lingering bitterness. This is great stuff.

M: One thing I noticed with KRBC (especially with Class V Stout) is their creamy mouthfeel. This one starts very creamy with just enough carbonation on the back end to dry it up. Could be because it's from the tap, it's great though.

O: This was my favorite of the four year-round brews I sampled at Kern. Decided to grab a growler of this and have been waiting for a day to enjoy it. Today's the day. Pick it up if you can, it's hard to find but great, just like all KRBC brews.

Just Outstanding, what an appropriate name. Two weeks old acquire in a trade.

Excellent Amber color. nice size head, good lacing.

Very hoppy smell, nice.

Taste is very good. Simco hops over all else. Slight make sweetness. Very well done.

Great ipa.

Pours into an imperial nonic a deep orange tinged brass color with a large blooming slight off white head atop that leaves multiple broken rings of lace as it settles ever so slowly.Aromas of grapefruit rind and herbal hops over top of biscuit malts.Pretty outstanding flavors with sharp grapefruit and resin-like hops winning out over sweetish caramel/biscuit dough maltiness.A big hopped up left coast ipa,as good as I thought it would be.

Growler from Joe Canal's, Iselin.

Golden copper body, good clarity, but with a little chill haze, topped by two fingers of dense white foam.

Fresh, big fruity nose, grapefruit, oranges, apricots abound.

Solid semi-sweet malt foundation coats the tongue. Juicy fruits burst out. Big bitter bite. And it all ties together in the end.

Medium mouthfeel, solid, smooth, with a dose of prickliness.

I don't know if it lives up to Just Outstanding, but its damn good.

On tap at Blue Palms' 5th Anniversary in Hollywood, CA.

Call the fire brigade! Raul got himself another hot one! And Raul means, tastes like 75 unleaded! It's ok, but what is this hot dog hop?! Dale Earnhardt must be proud because this hot son of a gun must be brewed by NASCAR! Good, but too "rocket fuel" for Raul's liking.

Peace!

22 oz. bottle. No bottling dates.

The beer pours out a golden body, with a rocky, dirty white head. It crackles out to a patchy cover, leaving stratas of lacing as it falls.

Dank hops, pineapple, grapefruit, and tropical fruit sweeten the nose. There's a little bit of spice and floral notes, with some cereal grains, but this is a showcase for Amarillo and Simcoe hops.

Fruity flavors at first, with pineapple, mango and grapefruit flavors. A resinous, pitch-like hop oil essence coats the mouth, with some light, herbal spice. A decent hop bitterness comes across, seemingly fairly tame at first, but it just keeps on building, and a stout bitterness is left in your mouth.

Wow. A great showcase for Simcoe and Amarillo hops, flavorful and delivers a bold bitterness that fulfills the need of every hop head. For a single IPA, this really impresses.

Pours a hazy burnt orange with perhaps the tallest, soapiest head I have seen thus far.
Exceptionally effervescent, great lacing.

Very flowery aroma, quite juicy like a tropical fruit salad with the sweet malt resting beneath.
Mouthwatering nose draws you in to the first sip with anticipation.

Taste is very nicely balanced, with the hops center stage. Flavors of orange, tangerine, & grapefruit are prominent, with the slight caramel sweetness from the malt to round out the flavors quite well.

Mouthfeel is a solid medium, carbonation is brisk but not overdone, nice bitterness resting at the back of the palate, alcohol extremely well hidden. Dry and crisp finish make this very appealing for what I am seeking in an IPA.

Exceptional example of the style, Just Outstanding earns its moniker. Really sweet effort from Kern River, highly recommended for those that enjoy truly hop forward IPAs. The "Bros." trashed this one in their review, and should recant the undeserved low rating by sampling another bottle with an open mind.

Big ups to Kenric! Can't believe I've never had this before!

Lightly hazy orange body, off white fire of head, great retention and lace. Aroma was bright with citrus and tropical fruits, pine and flowery aromas. Clean bready malts. Medium bitterness, juicy citrus and lemon zest, mango, pine resins and fresh cut grass. Light bready malt backbone. Medium body, rich and oily, clean bitterness, insanely drinkable.

Just Outstanding is fitting.
