Nice slightly hazy golden color with a rather large layer of foamy white head that leave massive amounts of sticky lacing all around the glass.

Picking up a little somehay/hops/grains on the nose. The flavor is bitter but not overpowering. A bit of citrus on the finish.

Mouthfeel is right where it should be and this is a very drinkable beer.

There are other IPAs I've enjoyed more, but I'd have no problem recommending this to anyone.

T- Very tasty. Pineapple hop, plenty of citrus. Floral as well. Nice malty backbone. Well balanced for an IPA.

D - Good.

A: Light coppery color with a thin off-white head and some nice lacing.

S: Nice floral hops, some caramel malts, overripe mango and some pineapple.

T: Some nice citrus hops and grapefruit with a late hit of caramel malts and a smooth and lasting finish. There is some nice hop bitterness on the finish as well. A very nicely balanced beer.

My dad just shot me a bottle and man do I have to say I am impressed with what Kern River is doing. I went into this one with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised.

Poured a cloudy bright copper hue with a two finger high eggshell colored head that had some nice hang time. very clingy lacing left on the glass the whole way down. This was a very nice looking brew in my Duvel tulip.

Aromas just blew me away. All the hop scents are there. Nice fruity pineapple aromas, piney and grassy tones, with some floral notes mixed in. Almost perfect and very enticing.

Taste is an extremely smooth crisp dry IPA. Hops are the dominate flavor but they don't overpower and attack the taste buds. Very clean piney bitter notes up front, with a citrusy finish.

Very smooth on the palate. Medium bodied and creamy. I have found a new favorite go to IPA.

Purchased at Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA a little over a month ago. The cashier claimed that it had just come in a few days before. To my knowledge, this bottle has been kept refrigerated for it's entire life.

Poured into a New Belgium globe.

Appearance: Standard pour netted a good three fingers of dense, rich, eggshell-colored foam. Body is crystal clear, orange-copper in color, and displays a gentle column of carbonation rising within. Excellent head retention - it just won't die down! - and thick, bubble bath-like lace complete the look. Looks outstanding!

Smell: Grapefruit, pine resin, caramel, earth, and toasted grain notes. Sweetness picks up a bit as it warms. Well done, but pretty straightforward; no surprises here.

Taste: Earth and pine come forth first, followed closely by pineapple, salt, and lemongrass. Grapefruit emerges in the finish, paving the way for a long-lasting bittersweet aftertaste. As you can probably guess, this is a hop-forward IPA. However, the malt bill still hangs in there, providing a solid base of toasted bread crust and (lighter) caramel. All of the flavors meld together very well. Where was this in the nose?!

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and well balanced. Fine, yet active, carbonation creates a velvety sensation on the palate - I dig that. Finishes bitter, but not nearly as dry as most west coast IPAs - I really like where it's at in terms of FG. Hop resins cling to the palate deep into the aftertaste. Once again, outstanding!

Drinkability: Other than the nose, this Just Outstanding was, indeed, outstanding! I wish I wouldn't have sat on it so long before drinking it. I'm sure a fresher version has an excellent aroma. This is a fantastic IPA through and through. Kudos to Kern River! I'm stoked that I can now get your stuff in San Luis Obispo.

On tap at Tony's Darts Away in Burbank, CA.

Man oh man, do i love this beer. I would drink this with a spicy sausage covered in peppers and onions at Tony's and it was just about as close to beer pairing heaven as it gets. Something about pairing an IPA with that spicy sausage and pepper combo that just makes sense. It almost nullifies the heat and lets the flavors emerge better in both. Love this beer's heavy pine nose and taste along with its more citrusy side. I would drink this all the time if it was possible, the most drinkable IPA i have had although Hangar 24 comes close.

Bottle thanks to jmadrigal2. Poured from 22oz bottle into a tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy golden orange with a two finger fluffy white head.

Smell: Bright grapefruit and tangerine aromas, bitter piney hops anad a malty character at the end.

Taste: Bitter piney hops, grapefruit, lemon zest mixed with a pretty nice malt taste that doesn't take away from the hops.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and it has a dry aftertaste.

Drinkability: I have had this beer a couple of times now and it is a very good IPA, that I wish made its way out to PA without trading.

Poured from a bottle gotten via trade from dabecassis. Thanks David, nice and fresh.

A: A medium golden orange color with a nice one finger sticky white head. Lacing is full and sticky.

S: Hops throw off a bunch of smells that include pine, grass, flowers and citric notes. They get coupled with the caramel sweet that lies underneath.

T: Nice hoppy west coast beer here. Up front I get the sweeter citrus flavors that get taken over by the pine and floral notes, with the floral notes winning out. Some grassy notes mix in with the caramel sweetness to allow some bitterness at the end but not overly so. Very complex and nice. Finish is creamy.

M: Medium mouthfeel. I would have liked this one a bit more bitter. Creamy for sure with very little if any alcohol notes.

D: Very high, this is a nice drinking IPA.

Overall a quality west coast IPA that just falls short of the best from that state. I would gladly drink this anytime or anywhere and still wish we could get it here in PA. A very solid beer, I enjoyed it greatly.

22oz bottle poured into nonic

A - Pours a hazy golden yellow with very white, one finger head.

S - Decent hop aromatics. Some citrus, but leaning more on the grassy piney side of the spectrum, leading me to believe a drier finish and mouthfeel

T - Grassy bitterness, minor orange and tangerine. Faint malty backbone.

M/D - As guess, dry and a tad thin. Not bad though, makes for pretty easy drinking. I could have a few of these no problem.

A - a golden hazy brown with an offwhite head. alcohol lacing on the glass shows a medium alcohol content

S - smell is typical of an IPA. A very Pine filled scent at the tip of the nose shows for a generous amount of hops. fruit notes consist of raisins, pear, CITRUS.

T - Grassy, Fresh, Piney, Slightly bitter HOPS. not too much, but definitely not too little. its buttery smooth after burner helps it go down smoother than any other IPA out there.

M - medium carbonation, not too heavy on the alcohol feel.

D - because the taste is so outstanding i can drink this all day.

Pou a hazt orange with a go od amount of head. Looks fairly pretty for a single ipa. Smells very hoppy. Lots of citrus on the nose with some subtle pine. Tastes like it smells... Citrus, some pine and grapefruit, a lot of different thing going on with some solid malt to back it up. Decent mouthfeel and spvery drinkable

22oz bomber poured into a taster.

Pours a really pale light hazy color with a small white head. Nose is light, a bit hoppy but not over the top, more like a pale ale.

Taste is also like a pale. There at hops but it's not over the top hop. Mouthfeel is a bit chewy and creamy, overall deceit as a pale.

Pours a ever so slightly hazy golden color with a nice white head and decent lacing.

Aroma of a noble hop variety mixed with some citrus hops. Great hop aroma but not on par with the best IPA's in the world.

Tastes just as it smells. But better than the aroma would suggest. The malt plays well with the hops and nice citrus hops. There is a nice malt but dry as well. Tasty.

Mouthfeel is dry like I like em. Nice carb.

Overall this will be one of my go to beers as long as I can get it.

Pours deep gold with a medium veil and a positively massive pillow of rocky head that will be your constant companion during this beer and the next.

Greets the nose with a generous fruit salad: pineapple, honeydew, and lemon. Pine and garlic have a cameo appearance.

The mouthfeel is the only thing that's a bit off here. It's a bit thicker and creamier than usual and doesn't have quite enough carbonation to really bring out the full flavor of the hops.

Setting aside the mouthfeel, the taste is quite nice: complex fruit flavors, including a uniquely strong orange note are complimented by a light caramel backbone that provides substance without distracting from the hop-centric mission. The pine and garlic notes arise at the finish along with moderate bitterness that fades with a dry smack to the back of the throat. Overall a very nice, drinkable effort that's well worth a try.

bottle poured into my New Belgium globe. Thanks to irishgurl4 for this.

Hazy orange body with a white head on top. Smells nice and hoppy, a big citrus hop aroma hits the nose, a bit of juiciness and some sweet notes as well. Tastes more balanced than the nose would suggest. Citrusy hop flavors up front give way to a big pale malt back bone. I wish this was a little less balanced. Medium body, slightly sticky a high amount of carbonation. Easily drinkable. Worth trying for sure. I enjoyed this but wouldn't go nuts trying to seek it out.

Received this as an extra in a recent trade. Poured into a standard pint.

A - Pours deep, cloudy, orange with a pillowy soft one finger head leaving sticky sheets of lacing down the glass.

S - Lots of grassy citric hops up front. Grapefruit, gram cracker malt, and a bit of dryness. Very nice balance overall with plenty of floral hops.

T - Plenty of piney citric hops up front giving way quickly to a mix of gram cracker malt and a touch of caramel sweetness. Finish is a bit dry with some lingering hop bitterness. Very good balance of flavors in this one. A bit old, my bad, but still very enjoyable.

M - Medium body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Nice soft feel with a bit of bitterness in the finish that doesn't linger for very long.

D - Pretty high. I really liked this one. I would love to try this on-tap someday. Can't wait to try some of the other offerings from Kern River.

Pours a beautiful metallic copper-orange with a slight unfiltered look. A finger-tall head of very light tan caps it, standing fast with the dense consistency of pancake batter and looking as if it'll never fully leave. Great snaking webs of sticky white lace decorate the glass as I drink.

The nose is a sweet combination of lime and grapefruit along with honey and a slight herbal character. Saltine crackers can be picked up in the background.

Strong bitterness grips the sides of the tongue while flavors of grapefruit, lemon peel and herbal basil and mint mingle about. The hops are obviously the star here, but the malt is just substantial enough to keep everything in check.

Very soft body with medium-light fullness. It's delicate on the tongue, moving about with gossamer substance. The carbonation is lightly massaging, with a bitterness that's bracing but not abrasive.

After being disappointed by several Cali IPAs, I'm happy to see Kern River restoring my faith in the state. Just Outstanding is...just outstanding.

Pours a cloudy pale orange, thick head with very nice lacing. The nose on this is simply perfect. Grapefruit, citrus, thick hops very clean. Floral citrus taste, grapefruit comes through with a very satisfying hop profile here, great bitterness. Creamy mouthfeel, nice oily texture thanks to the hops in this. Drinks like a dream, wish this was available in Toronto.

Thanks to the dgb3 for this bomber; with a name like this, & a good reputation for this brewery, I've been looking forward to this one for a while. Seems like it's finally becoming more available, & now I get to sample it. Yippee! Sawed in half into separate pint glasses for the wife & myself on a snowy Friday evening after a round of shoveling & sliding with my girls.

Pours an unfiltered orange-yellow, like St. Paul tapwater in the spring. Props for a cool label, too, the donkey, bike tire, & cow-poke (donkey-poke?). Smell is solidly hoppy; foreshadowing rocks. I love my Simcoe hops!

Just Outstanding has a bit of an arrogant name, & that ups the ante. But it's damn good. The hops are crowing, a fragrant mix of roses, grapefruit, bitter old guy, citrus, strong pine - classic IPA. The malt is sitting in the corner, present but unobtrusive. A nice clean bitterness follows up & washes lazily over the palate. Which awaits another sip eagerly. Honestly, the pretty good nose doesn't do the taste justice.

This is the rare bomber that I could dismember easily, then reach for another. Not exactly sessionable, but hell, I'm willing to try. Wondering if I can distract my wife long enough to pilfer some of the juice left in her pint glass.

Excellent effin' brew. This lives up to its name & then some; a beer that I'd drink regularly & with enthusiasm if I could get my hands on it. I can only imagine how mind-blowing this would be fresh & on-tap. My favorite beer of the first 14 days of 2011.

Kern River Just Outstanding IPA has a slightly hazy, light copper-coloroed body with numerous but irregular carbonation bubbles in it. The off-white head is soapy looking and is made up of mostly large bubbles. The retention is OK, but the lacing is very good.

The aroma has noticeable malt and hop characteristics. Lightly toasted pale malts mix with both citrus and floral aromas from the hops.

Just Outstanding is an easy drinking IPA with all kinds of hop flavor, low bitterness, and a noticeable malt backbone. The hops bring a good bit of bitterness, in conjunction with some citrus, but mainly floral and earthy flavors, with some pine resin thrown in. The malt backbone underneath does not equal the hops in intensity, but it is substantial. Toasted malts and biscuit flavors are what come with the malt profile. The finish is all bitterness and citrus.

A fairly light, highly carbonated IPA with a dry bitter finish.

Just outstanding is just good as far as I'm concerned. Well, a little better than good, but not outstanding. The flavor profile is nice, and for about five bucks a bomber I don't really have any complaints.

Thanks to johndoe8 for trading this to me.

Wonderful golden bronze color 1 finger white head. Some small bloby lacing.

Somewhat fruity, moderate pine and...gymsock?

Taste has bitter pine citrus pith and rind.

Mouthfeel is somewhat light, with perfect carbonation for the style

Drinkability is pretty high, certainly easy drinking stuff I'd have a couple bombers of this and be pretty happy

22oz bottle of Just Outstanding IPA. Pours an orange amber body, gives off an exquisite floral and citrus aroma finish that combines a zesty and bitter characteristic, and possesses a generous dry hop malty taste! Retains a very nice head and carbonation throughout. Mouthability is somewhat bitter due to it's hoppy profile, drinkability is nice with for a big dry hop beer using, I understand, Simcoe and Amarillo hops. A nice IPA anytime!

Poured from 22oz brown bottle into a Duvel tulip. No freshness date evident. Received as a result of the exceptional generosity of Solomon420.

A: Peachy-tangerine with 2-finger off-white tightly bubbled head with good retention and solid lacing down the glass.

S: Mango, grapefruit, and orange mix with pine resin and floral aromas. A touch of pale malt sweetness levels it off.

T: The flavor is very powerful and builds throughout the beer with strong pine character up front but matched with full-bodied floral orange, grapefruit, and tropical fruit touches. Some resiny character comes out in the end with a dash of pale malt sweetness. A really wonderful, complex IPA which matches the best across the country.

M: A tad on the thin side, but just barely with a sticky feel that belies a pretty serious malt load. Low-medium carbonation lends some smoothness.

D: A top-tier IPA that punches its ticket on the major hops categories and does it with ease and a gentle smoothness. With a little more body, this would be a top 5 IPA, but, as it is, I would never kick this one out of my fridge.

Great looking IPA, tan/orange and slightly hazy, great two finger head that lasted and lasted and left all kinds of great lacing on my tulip glass.

Smells very nice, a great mix of piney grapefruit and hoppy goodness.

A very well balanced and flavorful IPA. Just a touch of fruitiness peeks through with lots of delicious hops, grapefruits and mandarin oranges, balanced malts, and a good mix of sweetness vs bitterness.

Rich and pungent in your mouth, medium bodied and well carbonated.

This is a very good IPA. I could easily drink this on a regular basis. Just plain delicious in every way.

poured from a bomber into my arrogant bastard pint glass, 1.5 fingers of fluffy marshmellow white head tops the brew, looks like a cloud. The body color looks just like an SNPA with a touch of extra cloudiness added in from yeast.

The smell is great, refreshing, citrus, and a tinge of pine added in. The sweet malt adds a honey type scent to the mix as well which leads me to believe the flavor shall be balanced between malt and hop.

The flavor is just what I look for in an American style IPA, the forefront is very hop forward with a fruity sensation, citrus with contributions from orange and grapefruit to my palate. The middle of the taste is faded into from the beginning and gives the mouth a clover honey sweet flavor which refreshes you just long enough for the aftertaste hop assault. The third stage is all hop bitterness which I love as a finish, this IPA is balanced and just what I like in this style...Just Outstanding!
