Purchased from HiTime Wines in Costa Mesa CA.

This pours a clear golden colour with an inch of foam. Not many bubbles visible in my glass.

The smell is big notes of citrus hops with a light malty presence peeking through. Similar nose to Odell IPA and RR Blind Pig, me thinks, so I'm liking it.

The taste starts of with big notes of citrus bringing a lot of bitterness. More sips in and it's obviously big on the grapefruit and about mid palate, there's some malt moving in and brings a light sweetness to somewhat balance this IPA. Near and through the finish, I can taste a buttload of pine making for a nice bitterish finish. Man, this is a very tasty American IPA!

Further sips in and I'm starting to notice the malt more, which is a plus for me. It's still definitely an American style but I love me some malt to keep it from getting too bitter.

Good solid medium mouthfeel and the carbonation is just a notch below medium.

Drinkability? If I had easy access to this brew, I'd drink a lot of it. Very smooth but brilliantly tasting, the abv doesn't get in the way at all.

My second brew(of 3) from Kern River Brewing and ....who ARE these people???? Colour me impressed!

Btw, good head retention and lacing...

The initial impression was positive. It poured into the glass with a thick, white head; nice and frothy with loads of lacing as I consumed it. Smelling it was very pleasant, accredited to the dry-hop process with a lot of floral notes. I noticed that the ABV was fairly low for an IPA but the result is beneficial because that combined with the malt background combines to improve the number I can have. This is a beverage that I can have a few of without being overwhelmed. The mouthfeel was light and crisp for me, a complement to the warm afternoon in which it was served. Paired with the color makes it a refreshing summer beverage.

Great looking IPA, tan/orange and slightly hazy, great two finger head that lasted and lasted and left all kinds of great lacing on my tulip glass.

Smells very nice, a great mix of piney grapefruit and hoppy goodness.

A very well balanced and flavorful IPA. Just a touch of fruitiness peeks through with lots of delicious hops, grapefruits and mandarin oranges, balanced malts, and a good mix of sweetness vs bitterness.

Rich and pungent in your mouth, medium bodied and well carbonated.

This is a very good IPA. I could easily drink this on a regular basis. Just plain delicious in every way.

22oz bottle poured into a balloon tulip (Thanks Vitese!)

A: Pours golden orange with a massive 3 finger head, white and extremely tight with great retention. I could have flown to Paris and back and the head would still be standing tall. Leaves a ton of lacing.

S: Tons of simcoe: Grapefruit, pine, tangerine, and slight dank herbal quality. I get a little caramel malt and just a hint of alcohol.

T: Fairly soft hop character presents itself: restrained grapefruit, tangerine, floral notes, little bit of herbal dankness, pine in the background. The pine bitterness builds to a moderately bitter finish. Moderate amount of caramel sweetness to add a little candy fruit hop flavor but without being like a barelywine. Pleasant bitterness/slight astringency (in a good way) through the finish. Fairly dry.

M: Medium body, moderate to maybe very slightly high carbonation. Very fine carbonation. Fairly resinous and sticky, though smooth enough to make it extremely drinkable. Clean and bitter finish.

O: I'd agree with the label, this is just an outstanding IPA. Not too bitter, not too sweet, not to phenolic, just in the sweet spot across the board. I really wish I had something like like this, it would always be in my fridge.

"peach" definitely describes the color of the liquid, and an almost 'peach' head with mounds of 'white' defining the almost lumpy landscape sitting on top. awesome sight when poured with lots of mix and beautiful swirling. looks beautiful but lacks some carbonation.
orange-y, tangerine-y, orange-rind aromas....
grapefruit and orange on the palate, and grapefruit rind. lots of bitter-y zest. very nice, easy to drink. not something I can drink several in succession of due to personal preferences, but I DID separate it from the Pliny with a DOWNTOWN BROWN from North Coast . . . . so, yeah, I can drink a few of these. very good brew, indeed!

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass. No obvious bottle dating.

A deep bowl of variant color. Deep red bronze overall, with dark orange and lemon highlights on the edges. Supper slow rising carbonation comes up in nice abundance but not too much. Slightly a bit hazy though and not that clear. Head is a light white vanilla cream and perfectly uniformed bubbled. Nice four finger tall head, thick island clump retention and cap. If this had a little bit less haze it would look remarkable, but it's very impressive.

Nice subtle nose. Garden floral notes, very subtle, almost perfume like. A dry hint of pine and spruce rounds out. All around pretty solid, not much malt presence, or sweetness.

Real surprising palate. Whopping juiced character and mild sugar finish of caramel and hop juiced oils. Real great coating palate that gives a mint sticky mild bitterness and finish. Great aromatics in the mid palate of green pine and spruce. Chewy leafy garden greens of perfume and hints of mint. Small hints of dry biscuit character and brown toast a little as it warms.

The mouthfeel on this is so soft and easy to drink that it goes down like nothing. Real fun brew from these guys, it's not a giant hop smash in the face, just a nice subtle but noticeable play on it which I dig.

Just a simple review here....from a bomber into a glass. Great head. Aromas of pine, orange, citrus, bread. Tastes of bitter pinecone, grapefruit, bread with an alcohol finish...realy brite though. Feels just fine.

Will def grab more of this.

Poured a dark gold with a very small dissipating white head. Left a little bit of lacing behind on the glass.

The smell is the all-star on this one. Citrusy piney and a little bit of tropical fruit shine through. This is one of the top aromatic beers I've ever opened.

The taste is similar although not quite as powerful. The piney resiny hops shine through a bit more than the citrus and there is a little bit of a caramel malt background.

Mouthfeel and carbonation levels are both around average for the style.

Overall this definitely is an outstanding IPA.

Reviewed from notes. Thanks to both Skuter and checkii for sending me bottles of this.

Poured into a tulip. The color is a moderate peach color with a good, sturdy white head. The nose brings a really nice bouquet of citrus and tropical hops. Really nice combination and fairly strong. The taste is a bit plainer without going as overboard on the hops. A slight amount of malt in the background. Really nice body and the bitterness fits the taste nearly perfectly. Drinkability is quite high; damn, Kern River knows how to make a hoppy brew.

On tap at Tony's Darts Away in Burbank, CA.

Man oh man, do i love this beer. I would drink this with a spicy sausage covered in peppers and onions at Tony's and it was just about as close to beer pairing heaven as it gets. Something about pairing an IPA with that spicy sausage and pepper combo that just makes sense. It almost nullifies the heat and lets the flavors emerge better in both. Love this beer's heavy pine nose and taste along with its more citrusy side. I would drink this all the time if it was possible, the most drinkable IPA i have had although Hangar 24 comes close.

Pours a hazy honey orange with a 2 inch foamy light tan head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. A foamy latticework of lace coats the glass on the drink down but slowly dissipates over time. Smell is of citrus fruit, citrus zest, tropical fruit, and some herbal hop aromas. Taste is of citrus zest, grapefruit juice, tropical fruit, and some malt on the finish. There is a fairly mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a great beer that is tasty and super easy to drink with its awesome aromas and flavors.

Deep orange- copper color. Very bright and clear with a fine white head.

Floral, piney hops, with a hint of toffee almost on the nose.

Pleasantly bitter and spicy up front, followed by a hit of tangerine and grapefruit, more citrus in the taste than the aroma, backed up with by the taste of Hawaiian sweet bread.

Fine textured carbonation, and on the thin side but I like that. I don't want my IPA's to have the consistency of cough syrup.

Very easy to drink. Very happy to find another great IPA from California. I think I might be planning a camping trip to the Sierra sometime soon, and will most definitely want to stop at the brewery in Kernville.

For an IPA probably the best I had thus far. Had at my buddies strangers bar in el Centro. Nice head and lacing layers. Good smell and taste. Definitely get it again!

Ok it's 6/12/2015
I had it again.. I cudnt wait to pour it out. Shared it with my sister and she loved it. But I had many more ipa's and dipa's since my first "just outstanding" experience. Still very good IPA and I would definitely try it again but my first grade of 4.94 had to be changed. Still recommend this beer and I'll buy it again.

Poured into an imperial pint glass.

Yields a 2 finger bubbly white head. Takes awhile to reside to a soapy layer of foam on top. Leaves nice lacing behind, with oil legs. Golden with a hint of amber in color.

Smells of grapefruit, cereal grain, zesty orange peel, slight pine, and dank. Some butterscotch diacetyl. Upfront hop fragrance with some pretty striaght forward malts., really nice.

Taste explodes with grapefruit, lemon and orange zest, a bit of pine and resin as well. Light honey malts, and buttery diacetyl. Definitely a hop dominated IPA.

Medium bodied. Very creamy and smooth. Tiny assertive bubbles, and medium carbonation.

Easy drinking. Just an outstanding IPA.

First experience with this brewery. Pours clear copper with a medium white head. Good lacing. Earthy, kind of barnyard noseful of hops. If you are familiar with the area where this beer is brewed, it smells like that. Its uncanny and only adds to this beer's character. Smooth, clean mouthfeel with a long finish. Taste is bitter and earthy. The Amarillo hops are the boss in this one; peppery, earthy, piney, and bitter. The Simcoe is a nice compliment, but take a backseat to the Amarillos. Hefty malt, but as is my favorite, they also take a backseat and don't turn the beer into a sticky, candy mess. This is a true single IPA that packs a strong hops punch. Love it.

Big thanks to mrbubbler for this solid extra. Enjoyed from a batch 002 TB snifter.

a - brew poured a murky amber orange reddish brown with a thin frothy IPA head that hung out and left massive lacing on the glass. Really attractive brew.

s - nose is really fantastic and what you would hope for. Rich lush fresh piny hop intertwined with some dank caramel notes.

t/m - yum. Piny heady hops. Nice big bitterness without being overdone. A bit chewy and full bodied but far from syrupy.

o - overall, yep...just outstanding. Worth checking out.

Pours a clear copper with golden edges and three fingers of soapy white head. As the head fades, it leaves sticky lacing all over the glass.

Aroma is a soft sweet very pleasant citrus aroma of orange and grapefruit with some hints of pine resin in the background.

Taste starts off with some sweet citrus before the hop bitterness takes over. Pretty simple, but very enjoyable.

Mouthfeel is medium but very sticky with some moderate carbonation. This is a very drinkable and enjoyable IPA for the citrusy IPA fan... very nice, can't wait to try the Citra DIPA..

Bottle: Poured a nice golden color ale with a nice foamy head with excellent retention and some super great lacing. Aroma of fresh pineapple and citrus is very pleasant with nice flora undertones. Taste is also dominated by huge floral aroma of fresh grapefruit with some nice citrus notes with a lightly sweet malt backbone. Body is about average for style with great carbonation. World-class IPA which is approaching Alpine level but not quite there yet.

22oz bottle recieved in trade

The best looking beer I've seen in quite a while. The creamy, fine, white foam started up as soon as the beer hit the glass. A very gentle pour yeilded two fingers. The beer has very active carbonation and a coating of white froth sticks around the whole glass. The head never dissipates, there is a 1/4 inch of foam through the whole glass. Beautiful looking beverage. The aromas are herbal and grassy. Smells of dank aged hops. Flavor is great, clean light malt and a very crisp and refreshingly bitter finish. Tangerine and rye bread linger with nice big bittering hops. The mouthfeel is slick and a bit prickly with the carbonation and bitterness, but quite drinkable. A great beer overall.

Just like the label says. I get a little toasted sesame flavor which I love behind the piney and citrus notes. Solid, well rounded IPA. Love me some Kern! Cheers!

Thanks to moosington for the bottle.

Just Outstanding is an interesting color that lies somewhere between copper and orange. It's slightly hazy and looks distinctly orange when held to light. A light, cream colored head sits on top. It stands about two and a half fingers tall and is slow to dissipate. Sheets of thick, sticky lace line the glass.

The nose is simply excellent. It's absolutely loaded with hops. Hop aromatics are absolutely rolling out of the glass. Grapefruit, pineapple, and orange scents dominate. A few more whiffs reveal a healthy dose of pine and some light floral scents. Kern River nailed the hop bill with this one. I'm not getting much in terms of malts, which is a good thing. Alcohol is nowhere to be found. Just Outstanding is tremendous smelling beer.

The flavor is likewise excellent. Citric flavors of grapefruit and pineapple attack the palate first. Hop flavor is in no short supply. Pine and light floral flavors complement the citrus flavors nicely. It's very bitter and dry. I like it. Pale malts seem to be the only noticeable malt. They don't exactly provide much balance, which is all for the better in my view. Just Outstanding is aggressively hoppy and bitter. Perfect formula for an IPA. Alcohol is never a factor. It finishes bitter and dry.

Just Outstanding has a body that's on the very light side of medium. Carbonation seems light and restrained. It's smooth, but needs more body to achieve a creamier feel. Drinkability is very high. This is delicious beer that goes down like a dream. It's not intimidating weighing in at sub 7%. I could handle a bomber or two. It's that good.

I'm not familiar with Kern River Brewing Company. The name is new to me. If their other beers are this good, we're all in for a real treat. Just Outstanding IPA is flat-out excellent. I prefer hoppy IPAs that blister the palate with no remorse. Just Outstanding falls into that category. There's nothing balanced or timid about it. Just loads of hop flavor that pounds you into submission. I'm really impressed. Highly recommended. Thanks, Mark. This was a real treat.

Big thanks to ramnuts for sharing this wonderful IPA with me by way of arbitrator. Another review under the same circumstances is forth coming.

Bomber poured into a pint glass. The body itself is yellow pine orange with a light beige head that manages to maintain a wispy cap. The copious lacing after the drink is quite extraordinary. This is a fantastic looking beer so far.

The smell is all lemon zest, honey tangelos, and sweet candy orange slices.

Sometimes the aroma of a beer is so overwhelming the taste can't measure up. That isn't the case here. Lemon meat is the big citrus flavor here. Some grapefruit pith makes an appearance as well but the lemon stars first and foremost. Its also lightly herbal with very light malt.

Thin and moderately carbonated, this finishes clean. My lightly sticky lips let me know a good amount of hop oils are in this. This is an extremely solid beer. I will certainly be getting a hold of another one of these when I get the chance.

Glad I was able to find this. I have been wanting to try this for a while now.

Appearance - Pours a hazy burnt tangerine color with a little over a finger of white foamy head that dissipates rather quickly. Great lacing is left on the sides of the glass.

Smell - A burst of tropical citrus aromas burst forth from the glass. Mango, pineapple, grapefruit, etc. A great piney/hop aroma is present after the initial amazing citrus aroma.

Taste - Quite similar to the nose. A bit bitter up front which melds to the great tropical citrus flavors. Not as "sweet" citrus as expected (such as in the Oracle) but there is a relatively decent malt backbone. This is a pretty damn good IPA.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, extremely creamy, decent carbonation.

Drinkability - Quite quaffable. I'm glad I was able to try this. Not balanced per say, and not as tropically sweet as I would like, however, it is a pretty damn good example of an IPA and at the price (less than five dollars a bomber) if I see this again I will definitely pick it up.
