22oz bottle poured into a snifter
(A)- Pours an apricot orange color. Some good white froth and lacing
(S)- Big citrus of orange and pineapple. Slight dryness and pine but with a subtle sweetness behind it too
(T)- Candied pineapple and grapefruit-like citrus meets a piney yet sweet honey and orange profile. Some very subtle peach notes on the finish
(M)- A great carbonation level and balance. Slightly dry, but a great citrus profile that is balanced so well with some bittnerness. What makes it special is it is not overly sweet
(O)- Honored to finally try this one. Superb citrus and body to it without being too bitter or sweet. Easily one of the top DIPAs I have ever had

On-tap at Beachwood BBQ, glad to see this finally in the Southland,

A: Pours a lightly hazy orange with a medium full white head. Soapy, thick lace, good head retention.

S: Tropical fruit and citrus salad. Mango, lemons, orange, a delight.

T: Lemon and mandarin orange heavy, mango, pineapple. For me like a Sculpin on steroids, very tasty. Noticable malt profile for a West Coast DIPA, comes in at the end, but the flavour and enjoyment is all about the hops.

M: Firm, big mouthfeel, full-bodied, upfront carbonation. Dripping with hop resin.

D: A fantastic beer, with the hype, I expected this to be a 5 flavourwise, it's not that good, but it was definitely worth the $6 pint.

Bottle into a snifter.

A: Burnished golden orange with two fingers of white sea foam. Retention is very good and lacing is scattered on the glass.

S: The hops are bright and fresh, imparting notes of peach, mango, orange, tangerine, and grapefruit. It smells absolutely excellent. Passion fruit is pretty strong. Malt is faint and crackery, and there's a restrained floral bouquet.

T: Juicy orange and tangerine blend with peach and a little bit of drier citrus rind notes. Malt is a shadow. This is just bursting with hop flavor. Grapefruit meets mango, mandarin orange, and guava. This is delicious. The beer is moderately bitter and the amount of hop flavor backing it up is comical.

M: Upper light in body with upper medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is dry and sticky.

Overall: Just a pleasure to drink. Amazing. I wish I had a growler of this in front of me. Hah! Think big, I always say! Why not two growlers in front of me?

Thanks to David Frank (wuntrikpony) for giving me the opportunity to experience KR Citra via trade!

Pour from bottle into chilled tulip glass. Appearance is beautiful deep and murky amber/orange. Thick & fluffy one-inch white head dissipated gradually, leaving abundant and uniform sticky lacing throughout. Lots of continuous minuscule bubbles for duration, all around a thin white collar. The nose is a citrusy mango pineapple, with a hint of pine and papaya/banana scent. On the palate, a subtle malt lends balance to bitey hops with a taste profile similar to the nose. Indeed, one of the more striking aspects of this brew is the utter balance of citrus hops and subtle malt, with the alcohol well hidden. Mouthfeel is better than average, with good but not overwhelming carbonation.

Overall, a very fine DIPA and one I hope to have the pleasure of trying again some day. Eager to visit Kern River and sample other offerings from what I understand is a fantastic venue. Thanks and cheers to David Frank for the experience!

Poured from a bomber into a Lost Abbey tulip. Big thanks to Jodan for the chance to try this one.

A: Pours a hazy golden amber color with a minimal head.

S: Fresh squeezed citrus juices and lots of sweet pineapple in the nose.

T: Grapefruit, pineapple, and a little bit of a sweet malt flavor. Tropical fruits became more pronounced as it warmed.

M: Medium carbonation. Seems just right.

Huge thanks to ArchEnemyBrew for send this beer for me to share with a friend! Thanks Hollis!!!

bomber poured into tulip glass.

At long last, I get to try this EPIC beer!

Appearance: golden bodied beer with 2 fingers of white head. spotty lacing.

Smell: big juicy oranges. grapefruits and pine take a back seat to this nose of unrelenting oranges. really nice nose that you can smell while you are pouring the beer.

Taste: moderate bitterness. Lots of citrus flavors. Touch of grapefruit very similiar to the nose. Nice pine notes as the supporting cast. Fresh, juicy, & green tasting hops. Tropical fruits with a touch of pineapple.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation. Well hidden ABV; drinks very easily.

Overall: This DIPA does not quite live the hype it gets. Lawsons double sunshine is easily better and not as hard to get either. Orangey hops and its pretty drinkable are both positive attributes that I do enjoy about this DIPA.

A growler.

A: Citra is a darker, autumnal with leafy, tobacco brown colors. Enough lighter hues lend to the yellow-brown leaves in fall aspect. A small head.

S: The citra nose is intoxicating, sweet with orange. Underneath the hops, caramel malts provide a surprising degree of balance.

T: The citra, as pleasant as the nose is, doesn't quite last. Hoppiness is present, a recurring theme. Citrusy orange flavors are rich and lush, well-balanced against the caramel biscuit malts. Citra starts out well but gets lost amongst the bolder double IPA flavors.

M: The mouthfeel is crisp upfront, hoppier and varied in the finish. The citra nose is great.

D: A good beer, plenty flavorful with the citra leading the charge.

Surprised by the haze, it's a nearly fully opaque orange-amber with a lighter gold around the bottom edge, topped with a large khaki foam that slowly settles to a thin film with a bubbly clinging collar.

Smell actually starts garlicky and biscuity, with some sharp yeast, orange zest and rind, lemon and pine.

Taste is tangy and almost spicy with a mix of allium and citrus, backed by a sting of pine and a biscuity rug with a Triple Sec finish.

This is definitely more old school, malty, bitter and pungent than the new haze class, but is also very citrusy and enjoyable. Body is moderately light with a bubbly light carbonation and a dry, prickly swallow.

Many many thanks to tkunkel for getting me a growler of this. Thank you, Tom.

Pouring a mildly hazy copper, this beer is capped with a ridiculously thick and dense off-white head with exceptional retention and lacing. The color is a little darker than I'd like, but hot damn, this one looks beautiful!

The nose is a tropical fruit salad and exceptionally so. Mango, papaya, pineapple and passion fruit are all present and by the gobful. A light sweetness is present with some sugar and caramel, but that just enhances the fruity character of this beer. There's a moderate bitterness as well, very lemon zest in character with some grapefruit as well. Fantastic stuff.

Opening sour with a wonderful barnyard funk, this is everything I expect this beer to be. Oh wait, wrong beer. Opening with a fantastic hop character, this one is loaded up front with flavor hops with mango, papaya, some pineapple and a moderate citrus character, akin to tangerines that are almost completely ripe. With a moderate and clean bitterness, this beer is just outstanding. The bitterness has lemon peel and grapefruit characteristics and is very clean and smooth (but not as good as the Nelson I drank last night). The malt character I thought I'd picked up on the nose is mostly absent, there's just a touch caramel sweetness, tying all the components together. Medium-light in body with moderate carbonation, this beer is fantastic on the palate. While not a resin monster that some big DIPAs tend to be, this one is gentle and soothing on the palate with a great finish with great balance between bitterness and hop flavor. I would like a touch more bitterness. Exceptionally drinkable, this is a top notch DIPA that I am going to have to track down again, and often.
