Thanks to David Frank (wuntrikpony) for giving me the opportunity to experience KR Citra via trade!

Pour from bottle into chilled tulip glass. Appearance is beautiful deep and murky amber/orange. Thick & fluffy one-inch white head dissipated gradually, leaving abundant and uniform sticky lacing throughout. Lots of continuous minuscule bubbles for duration, all around a thin white collar. The nose is a citrusy mango pineapple, with a hint of pine and papaya/banana scent. On the palate, a subtle malt lends balance to bitey hops with a taste profile similar to the nose. Indeed, one of the more striking aspects of this brew is the utter balance of citrus hops and subtle malt, with the alcohol well hidden. Mouthfeel is better than average, with good but not overwhelming carbonation.

Overall, a very fine DIPA and one I hope to have the pleasure of trying again some day. Eager to visit Kern River and sample other offerings from what I understand is a fantastic venue. Thanks and cheers to David Frank for the experience!

The beer comes in a hazy bright reddish amber orange with almost tinges of ruby and pink coming through as well, with a fluffy white head.

The aroma is pungent and juicy of tropical and citrus fruits, lots and lots of orange and grapefruit peel. A certain lemon and grapefruit zest and spritziness in the aroma. A big sugary sweetness in there as well.

The flavor follows with a powdery pink grapefruit candy, dried grapefruit and orange peel, tons of sweet dried tropical fruits. A big pineapple juice bitterness.

The beer has a wonderful medium mouthfeel with a fluffy white bread malt in the middle. There’s a sweetness throughout that comes through from beers like Double Jack and Lagunitas Sucks, instead of that white breadiness from VT hoppy brews.

The beer is medium plus bitterness on the finish along with tons of drying. The finish has floral, spicy and herbal bitterness along with tons of fresh grapefruit peel and pith.

This reminds me of an Alpine beer and definitely does a reasonable job standing up against the best from Vermont, although my preference is clearly in the light bready malt than the big sweetness this beer contains.
