2021 Vintage
Appearance: Very dark brown bordering on black with a generous sized, thick, and dark beige head that faded very slowly. A good looking imperial Stout with a dense and foamy head that was long lasting.
Smell: Prominent Bourbon aromas, brown sugar aromas, and moderate vanilla aromas. A nice smelling beer.
Taste: Prominent Bourbon notes, moderate roasted malts, mild brown sugar, mild vanilla and tannic oak notes. The bourbon notes are definitely upfront and while the beer starts off somewhat sweet, the roasted malts and tannic oak notes help counter the sweetness and dry the beer out quite a bit in the finish. The bal-aging elements are readily apparent and I have no doubt the beer spent a good bit of time in a barrel but it works out well in this beer. Not ridiculously high in alcohol at 10% ABV which makes it quite a bit more approachable than many other Imperial Stouts these days.
Mouth-feel: Medium bodied with a fairly generous level of carbonation. not the thickest IS but the beer still has a decent mouthfeel.
Overall: A good bal-aged Imperial Stout. It's been a while since I had Class V but I believe the barrel aging did this one good. I'm glad I picked this one up.

Its difficult to get a perfect 5 rating with stouts, half of them have the exact same SRM dark as fugggg color going for it. This one had amazing 1" of tan head though, and retention through the roof.
Great sweet bourbon, chocolate, vanilla and caramel, none of which are understated, they are all gargantuan competitors that somehow get along.
Taste was warming, bourbon, and chocolate in no small way. Quite drinkable too, not one of those big beers that is good in a 2oz pour, you can crush 20oz of this no problem.
Top notch, 1st tier bourbon barrel stout stuff.
