Black as night with very little mocha head, some lacing but nothing great.

Very barrel forward almost enough to overpower everything else. Initially almost overly sweet, coffee and lots of barrel. Finds it's balance more so as it warms. Smooth and clean with a sweet finish. Lingering sweetness very similar caramels.

Be patient with this one, at first it wasn't overly exciting however is developed over time.

Poured a deep dark black brown with about a finger's worth of off-white head. The head didn't stick around for long, and what you are left looking at is a lovely shiny oil slick of beer in your glass. The smell was all bourbon initially, but as the beer warmed more came forward. There were elements of coffee, vanilla and sweet malts. The flavor follows the nose, and as this beer warmed it gave more and more flavor. I found the barrel very strong at first, but at the end the barrel was working quite well with the malts, vanilla and roasts in the beer. The feel was smooth with a medium body and lower carbonation. The booze was noticeable on this one, but not an intrusion, as a complement to the rest of the flavors.

When they say a beer is a sipper, this is what they mean. This beer just seemed to taste better sip after sip after sip. I was surprised at the changes in flavors from initial pour to finish. Take your time with this one, let it sit, and enjoy.

Minimal tan head. Subtle berry and chocolate aroma. Alcohol forward but not boozy. Wonderfully complex flavours. Started with a subtle dark berry note and quickly progressed to chocolate, coffee and licorice. Slight wood finish

Awesome bourbon and oak aroma and flavour. Initially a bit boozy, but there's a ton of underlying depth... Molasses, cocoa, field berry and a light liquorice. Well attenuated, with a drying alcohol finish.

Thanks Montypythonshopcircus!

650ml bottle.

Jet black with coffee head that dissipates quickly. Light bourbon and sugar aromas on the nose. Dates. Well intigrated bourbon, caramel, and coffee notes. Thick and slightly syrupy with moderate carbonation. Lovely with a little over year on it since bottling. A shame this is retired...

Thanks to tbadiuk for the bottle in a CANBIF! Bottle has 2.5 years of age.

Pours a deep black color with a nice dark brown head, good retention and bit of lacing. The nose is packed with boozy bourbon, vanilla, sweet malt, dark chocolate, coffee, maybe some molasses. The taste is similar with lots of dark chocolate, roasted malt, bourbon, vanilla, coffee. Big, thick body, smooth, silky with just enough carbonation. Overall, really nice, well balanced, easy drinking big-ass BBA stout. Hope they make more!!

Special thanks to Ted (tbadiuk) for providing us with this big want in a 2013 trade. Bottle is not dated but I have left this in our cellar for 1 year.

A: A deep black brown pour with 1 finger of dark tan head which fads fast leaving a thing rim. Just a few specks of lacing left around the glass

S: Upfront notes of bourbon and vanilla, followed by sweet coffee, dark chocolate, toasted almonds and sweetness of molasses. Alcohol vapours at the end reveal the bourbon barrel conditioning

T: Immediate sweet notes with mild molasses and vanilla followed by smooth charred wood smokiness along with chocolate and coffee. Alcohol presence of bourbon on the finish with mild bitter notes. Very well balanced and smooth.

M: Extra smooth and medium bodied with low carbonation. Alcohol presence lingers showcasing the bourbon barrels.

O: An exceptionally balanced RIS that highlights the use of bourbon barrels without overpowering the other flavours but rather complimenting each. One of the better uses of barrel aging that I have had and would gladly drink this again.

Big thank you to wordemupg for this big Canadian want!

Appearance. Pours thick and black with a half finger of dark tan head.

Smell. Sweet bourbon and woody vanilla, chocolate fudge and vanilla with just a touch of molasses.

Taste. Molasses and that chocolate fudge I was smelling, nice light bourbon that complements the rich BEER flavours very nicely ...no dominating bourbon here which is a fantastic change from most bourbon barrel stouts. There's some nice toasty oak and dry cocoa powder in the finish.

Mouthfeel. Full body, slightly sticky on the lips. Low smooth carbonation. Very nice.

Overall. Okay, so BBA stouts may not be my absolute faves, but this is how to do one right. Really enjoying this.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with great retention and some good lacing. Aroma of bourbon with deep vanilla notes, some roasted malt with big black chocolate notes. Taste is also dominated by deep roasted malt notes with loads of black chocolates notes and some very well-balanced notes of bourbon with sumptuous vanilla notes. Body is quite full with rich creamy body and good carbonation for style with not much alcohol being apparent. Well-balanced imperial stout with superior used of barrel-aging treatment.
