It had been a few years since I last visited Harvest Co-Op in Central Square. It’s a large food store with an emphasis on quality products such as organic offerings. You can expect fresh produce and unique food options. There is a café in the front of the store that offers pastries, sandwiches, wraps, etc as well as coffee, tea and smoothies. The beer selection is located towards the left side of the store.

Since my last time here I was surprised and slightly disappointed to see the beer selection had been downsized greatly. I didn’t notice any beers at room temperature. All beers are stored in coolers. The beers they do carry have a good representation of the line. For instance, Harpoon beers are plentiful with options like Harpoon Ale, IPA, UFO Hefeweizen, UFO Raspberry Hefeweizen, Octoberfest and the latest 100 Barrel Series (Bohemian Pilsner). The same deal with their Samuel Smith’s line, which is pretty extensive. There is a helpful print out on the top of cooler that provides info on the Samuel Smith’s line.

Some other beer highlights were Paulaner Premium Pils & Oktoberfest-Bier, Paper City One Eared Monkey & India’n Pale Ale, Fuller’s, Anchor Steam, Ipswich, Sierra Nevada and others.

Prices are on the high side. $10.99 for a six pack of Anchor Steam?!? Most six packs are $8.99 and they can usually be found for a dollar or less at most other places. I don’t think stock is rotated too often either, I would be careful. I was about to buy a Fuller’s 1845, but checked the freshness date and it was more than 3 months old. Service was pretty average, nothing worth noting.

Overall, this is a good place to pick up craft beer is you’re shopping in the store and you want to save time, but I would suggest walking across the street to Supreme Liquors for a much more appealing beer selection.
