In a pint glass the beer was a gold/amber color with a light haze. A small white head left a bit of lace.

Aroma of earthy hops and sweet malt.

Lots of caramel/toffee in the taste. Hops both early and late.

Medium-bodied, very sweet.

At $3.49 for a bomber, this beer was a great bargain.

The appearance has a somewhat clear copper colored body with a one finger white foamy head that dies to a nice film coating the top of the body. Thick foamy lacing clings smartly to the sides of the glass. The smell has some toasty biscuit malt, a little bit of caramel, toffee all combined and coming through in an earthy sort of mild grassy scent but smells really good. There is nothing off putting. The taste is mainly sweet through the toasty biscuit malt. There is a sweet sticky aftertaste with a quick dry sweet finish. On the palate, it sits about a light to medium on the body, comes across mostly sessionable. Carbonation is extremely smooth for an APA. Overall, this is a pretty well done Pale Ale, but there’s a part of me that says it just might be closer to a sessionable English Pale Ale. No worries, still worthy of getting again.

From the bottle stamped Best By 07/03/14. Sampled on January 19, 2014.

The Common Man is a family-owned restaurant chain with locations all over the state of New Hampshire from fine dining to even a 50's style diner. This is their house brew available for now in a bottle.

It pours medium copper with very good clarity and a full cream colored head that settles down some but generally stays around.

It smells like a quality American Pale with toasted biscuit, caramel, toffee, and a mildly present earthy hop note.

The body is a bit better than medium.

The taste is well balanced with a toasted biscuit malt and barley beginning and a slightly bitter and dry finale. Enjoyable and easy to drink.

Had on tap at the Common Man in Windham, NH. The beer had a clear copper appearance with some patchy lacing on the sides. Aromas included a honey floral infused hops mix. The taste followed the nose as a nicely balanced and flavored pale ale that was bittersweet from its light hops. The drink was very refreshing with a good, balanced carbonation that made the beer a pleasure to drink. Overall, I thought the mouthfeel was the best aspect of this beer and it went well with a hearty dinner.

Had this on tap at the Italian Farmhouse in Plymouth, NH.

Amber color and clear. Good lasting head that leaves extensive lace.

Amber malted grain smell initially. Modest floral hop later in the aroma.

Short, earthy darker toasted malt start. The hop kicks in muting the base. Relatively short aftertaste. Rich body with a low carbonation.

Bottle from Bert's
So as I understand it the Common Man in Windham NH had a few too many electrical fires so the fire dept shut them down for a bit which left Smuttynose with a bit too much of their beer, that they apparently sent into distribution. 3.50 for a bomber and I am a happy customer!
Pours a crystal clear medium golden color with a huge fluffy bone white head that persists forever. Aromas of caramel and bready malt with a bit of earthy hop to counter and a hint of mineral water. The flavor is huge on the caramel and bready malt with bits of sulfur and mineral. Moderate earthy hops and a hint of butterscotch round out the flavor. Medium body with a moderate to high level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Old school pale ale, that I rather enjoyed. I've probably had this before at the restaurant, but nice to sit down and really evaluate it.

On tap at Lakehouse Grill. Pours amber with a white head and decent lacing. Slight fruity aroma. Taste is crisp with decent hop bite. Feel is good for a pale ale. A solid beer that's good and easy to drink.

From the bottle, it pours a hazy amber with a nice small head. A bit of malt in the nose. The beer is lightly bitter - just off of sweet - Nice and yummy!

Review taken from notes while sitting at the Common Man Inn bar in Claremont, NH; dated October 13th, 2013. Supposedly contract brewed by Smuttynose for the Common Man Inn.

Appearance: solid gold color w/thin, foamy head; thin sheets of lacing.

Smell: toasted grain; honey & biscuit.

Taste: mild malt character; grapefruit (faint); bitter.

Mouthfeel: clean; dry; tingling carbonation.

Decent though pedestrian. Perhaps served a bit too cold so the flavors were a bit subdued.
