12oz bottle poured into a pint glassy this has been newly released as a year round beer in the 6 and 12pk format. The recipe was tweaked slightly from the pervious short batch release.

A: Hazy golden pour with tawny hues. Creamy off-white head settles quickly. Thin broken rings of lacing.

S: Toasted hemp seed and pine resin are forward on the nose. Lighter notes of vague citrus, passion fruit, and honeydew melon underneath. Dry crackery malt base.

T: Very earthy. Pine resin, toasted hemp seed, dry leaves. Clamping bitterness. Ruby red grapefruit fights through the toasted edge. Some more playful melon and passion fruit notes are buried deeply. Imprisoned is a better way to describe it, as they are stifled by all the biting bitterness and earthy flavors. Toasty and crackery malt. Dry toasty and resins finish provides no respite from the clamping bitterness; it lingers long after.

M: Light body has a nice creamy feel before the floor drops out from under it and it evaporates right off of the tongue. Prickling carbonation. Hop astringencies are out of control.

O: There is no semblance of balance here whatsoever. Like most session IPAs, it sacrifices body and abv but still let's the hops run rampant. It is unpleasantly bitter and astringent. I know many out there crave that strong, rip your tongue out hop grit and flavor, but this is taking it too far. The best IPAs out there have a malt body that really anchors the hop onslaught and keeps it in line just enough. Most session IPAs coming on to the market do not. So I guess if I'm rating to style, it's roughly upper middle of the pack. No part of me really wants to go back for more of this though. I would not recommend this for a neophyte either. There's too much at play here that will turn off a noob.

I'm a huge fan of Smuttynose, but this one is really disappointing. Pours with a thin head that dissipates quickly to a ring of froth. Aroma is light, nondescript. Grapefruit like bitterness and a thin mouth feel with little malt backbone, leaves a strange apricot like flavor lingering on the palate. I get that they were trying to make a session brew, but I think it fails due to the taste - I couldn't put more than 1 or 2 of these down. I'd much rather have a Smutty Nose Finest Kind.

I found everything about this beer to be average. This is one of those beers that you drink "ice cold" and to only quench your thirst. It is typical and would be a good beer for someone that was not expecting the explosion of flavor that you typically get from Smuttynose. This would be something that I would recommend to someone that typically does not drink microbrews and thus won't be left disappointed. Stick to Finest Kind.

Pours nicely with not a big head at all. Very drinkable and not too hoppy. Has a slight lingering taste on the palate, not an extremely crisp finish, but quite an easy-drinking IPA that is not too high in ABV. I would buy again.

22oz brown bomber with no freshness date.

Full on sticky frothing, mildly dull golden hue. Citrus pith and wild flowers with some biscuity malt make for a very aromatic nose. Snappy crispness in a fluffy body. Assertive hoppiness start to finish, bitterness is pretty sharp but lets the malt make camp. Underlying breadiness. Lots of citrus rind with a yeasty earthiness.

Super hoppy session beer, fun to knock back if you are into intensely hoppy beers.

I like Smuttynose and consider them to be highly underrated. That said, I didn't much care for this one. Falls into the watered down dandelion flavored spectrum of session ipa's.
