Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.90%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
You could say, then, that Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 75 IBU's, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that's not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

Pours a straw yellow color, which is almost translucent with just a tiny bit of haziness, with a moderate sized creamy white head. Head has okay retention and leaves heavy lacing.

Smells of orange peel, old bread, a bit grainy.Tastes of orange peel, grapefruit, stale bread, and pine. Has a clean, bready/piney/rindy finish. Has a moderate mouthfeel and slightly above average carbonation for an IPA.

Smuttynose "FInest Kind" IPA poured into a snifter.

A - Pours a nice hazy light orange color. Some visible sediment, this is just how I like my IPAs to look like.

S - Nice hoppy nose, some bitter notes along with citrus and a piney spiciness also. Mostly dominated by hop but there is some malt sweetness in there as well. Nice aroma coming from this.

T - Up front getting some fruitiness and citrus from the hops. A lasting bitterness hits the middle of the tongue and pine/resin kicks in too. Really good and pleasing flavor, plenty of bitterness sticking around here. Great hop profile.

M - Mouth feel is about medium, little bit of sticky malt in there. Very drying on the back end.

Overall this is a great American IPA, they are pretty dead on with this. Glad to have this beer so readily available and fresh.
