In a snifter the beer was a very dark brown, near black, color. There was a small tan head.
Aroma of chocolate and coffee. A lot of sweetness.
Big hit of chocolate and marshmallow, with coffee coming through later. Just a hint of vanilla.
A medium-bodied beer. Initially I found it to be too much on the sweet side, but the coffee balance things out.

24oz bottle, 2016 version, 7.5% ABV. Pours black with a medium sized dark khaki head. Smells of mostly cocoa with some oak, earthy hops, and char; lower intensity. The taste follows with roasted malt, cocoa, char, oak, marshmallow, and earthy hops; better intensity. High bitterness and light sweetness for the style. Average carbonation and body. Despite the label, this is actually fairly bitter with some oak and char. Might be better classified as an IS since it doesn't seem to have lactose and isn't all that sweet. Fairly good beer overall.

Samples first with a buddy, and my first impression was wow, where did this come from! I repooured my portion into a becher, here’s the rest. The appearance was a two finger sustaining off white to tan foamy head that dissipated ever so slowly. I think a turtle could have walked a mile in the amount of time this dissipated, boy, is this head slow or what. Lacing is very foamy. The aroma takes on a dry oaky chip initially and then mildly blends in a marshmallow roasty coffee to cocoa bean. Semi-sweetness pulling that bitter underscore of both of those beans. The flavor leans towards the bitter to dry roasted taste of the coffee and cocoa bean. Marshmallow seems to lean towards the background here and gets a slight toasted/roasty sort of tingle to it. The aftertaste brings a fairly dry sort of oaky to roastiness. Dry roasty to oaky sort of finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionabilty to it. Good carbonation seems to grip well. Overall, very nice creative American stout that I know I would love to have again.

4/7...pours pitch black with a thin ring of tan foam. Dark chocolate burnt nose. Soft marshmallow hints too. Strong bitter burnt taste. Oaky, heavy bitter. Espresso heavy stout, quite thick. pretty good, a little strong.

Enjoyed from the 22 oz bottle in a snifter. This beefy stout pours a rich obsidian with a thick head of light brown foam that dissipates to a thick ring, subtle layer, and nice lacing. Nose of cocoa, light charred wood, and deeply roasted malts. Flavors surpass the nose with cocoa nibs and roasted malts on the front that mingle with a smoked wood note to the middle and sides and a moderate coffee note that comes into play near the rear mixing nicely with subtle cream and warming booze. Very nice mouth feel, warming and full, with medium carbonation to keep it lively. An excellent stout to say the least. Very nice.

Cheers
