Good complexity, plenty of heat.
Very dry, earthy hop, earthy toned yeast, slightly sour and funky.
A well rounded, semi complex flavor, decent, but not outstanding yeast effect.
Not too shabby for an American saison.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Belgian tulip. Imprinted on the bottle: Bottled in 2015 ABV 7.8%

Look: Hazy golden orange to brownish, soapy white head that dissipated quickly. No lacing.

Smell: Apples, earthy hops, farmhouse funk.

Taste: Plenty of yeasty funkiness and hop bitterness.

Feel: Light feel, dry finish.

Overall: Not bad, but not the best I've ever had. Most likely would not pick this one up again if available; just not a huge fan of the taste.

Clearly a farmhouse ale, but Spank definitely delivers on hops. One of the few beers that tastes great but doesn't smell as good as it tastes. Kept picking up notes of Brett, but my fiancé (who hates anything with a hint of funk) really enjoyed this, so maybe not? Overall, finishes juicy and hoppy. Neat beer.

Bomber bottle - "brewed in 2015"

Pours clouded under a long lasting khaki cap. Leaves spotted and ringed sheets of lacing.

On the nose its pepper, lime, lemon

Flavorful hopped up saison, more lime, pepper, and also grainy hops and and toasted whole, wheat bread.....tasty and enjoyable....worth a try

The bottle is cool. I drank out of the bottle as I was outside on a really hot day over Labor Day Weekend 2015 while making tomato sauce with my bro-in-law and his family. The smell of the beer was rich. It tasted really nicely. It felt and tasted like well-crafted beer. I hope they make it again. It help quench my thirst and made the day that much more enjoyable. I will not forget it.

Pours a cloudy golden color with a finger width foamy head. Retention is mild, as is lacing. Sweeter farmhouse aroma with some citrus. Strong farmhouse taste with some sweetness and slight citrus. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Enjoyed this beer. Good farmhouse taste.

A: Malt, citrus, earthy, spice.

Appearance: pours an orange color with a 1/2" head that slowly falls to some spotty bubbles.

Smell: caramel, ripe fruits, citrus, and a floral bitterness are detectable with the nose.

Taste: caramel, pepper, clove, lemon zest, mango, a bit of funk, and a nice floral bitterness.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp from start to finish. Long lasting aftertaste. Refreshing.

Overall: a nice hoppy saison that is well balanced and is easy to drink.

Bottled in 2015

Pours a clean looking golden orange color with a decent sized head, fades at a moderate pace and leaves no lacing on the glass, a thin lasting cap does stick around though.

Smell has a strong scent of hops melded with Belgian candied sugar aroma, some other spicing dances in the nostrils.

Taste is a mix of lightly sour with a citrusy pine background, the candied sugar is mixed in the aftertaste along with some yeasty spicing, honestly all the flavors going on in this beer don't work as a whole, individually they're fine but when grouped together they seem at odds with each other, carbonation is very high and explodes in the mouth like a cola, finishes quite dry.

I feel like there's a reason most Saisons are more on the funky/spicy end and less hoppy, this beer seems to reinforce that.

It pours golden with tinges of orange and a full head. It has aromas of sour, leather, and earthly elements. It has a spicy taste that is peppery with earthly flavors. It is lively on the palate with a spicy, but slightly sour kick to the palate.

It doesn't smell very rustic - instead, it's more like a regular IPA. I get lots of caramel, some candied sugar, and a bit of pine. And it doesn't taste rustic. There are some bread and sugar notes to open it up, with a dry, subtly piny finish. It's pretty boring, but easy to drink at least. Disappointing for a Smutty anniversary ale.

3.07/5: A dull spank

Pours a cloudy orange with a tall frothy white head with very nice retention that leaves a trail of lace.

Smells of spice, citrus, and sour yeast. Some green apple and a slight nuttiness.

Taste is crisp and sour - green apple. Some bitter citrus comes through almost completely masking a slight malt nuttiness. Mouthfeel is a little flat at first but lively with a swish with tight carbonation and a sour dry bite.

22oz. bottle served in a tulip. Pours a dull golden-orange with a slight hazy to the body and a frothy, two inch, cream-colored head that settles into a quarter inch dollop of foam. Textured, semi-concentric bands of lacing are present during the tasting. Interesting nose, albeit a bit clean for the style - grassy notes, clove, spice and a trace of candi sugar in the background. Taste consistent with nose; however, a distinct piney/grapefruity presence is apparent in the foreground; finish is slightly medicinal. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body, but closer to light, with a lively carbonation and a citrusy acidity. As advertised, a hoppy saison. Not a really standout for me but not bad.

Pours a deep golden color with big white head with a tint of yellow
Smell is lemony and spicy
taste is similar with the initial sip reminiscent of champagne
Mouthfeel is nice with a bit of carbonation tingle
overall a different beer than I'm used to (mostly ipas and stouts for me thank you very much) but I can see drinking this again. Especially on a warm weekend afternoon.

A - pours an opaque orange almost body. Hazy. Head unruly, 3 fingers from my light pour. Big thick soapy head, took a very long time to subside. It lasted throughout leaving lacing and tons of lively foam abound with every sip.

S - very fruity yeast forward aroma. Lots of floral and banana notes, cutting through is a lemony pine hop note. A little soapy and Esthery, some alcohol.

T - interesting flavor, for the Saisons I have had, many, this is probably one of the most subdued/balanced in flavor. It has a delicate soft floral and fruity flavor that is balanced finely with citrus and pine hop notes. Yeast is prevalent in the finish, capping things off with a peppery and fruity aftertaste, Bittering hops are sufficient to linger on the palate.

M - for the amount if head it is surprisingly low in carbonation, my example being borderline cask ish, which is not a bad thing.

O - great Saison, less of a thirst quencher than most. Although it is crisp and tart with a lingering bitter, the almost 8% abv and low carbonation slows me down a bit. Perfect night cap for the waning days of summer.

Bottled in 2015. 7.8% ABV per the label.

Pours a murky dark honey orange with a foamy tan head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy patches of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain, earth, spice, yeast, and pepper aromas. Taste is much the same with slightly tart citrus fruit, earth, spice, yeast, and pepper flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop and spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a slight tartness in the flavor that I wasn't expecting, but it works well with the other aspects I am getting from this one.

Serving type: bottle.

Enjoyed from the 22 oz bottle in a snifter, this saison pours a hazy luminous orange with a solid head of white foam that dissipates to a thick layer and ring with very nice lacing. Nose of clove, grapefruit, white pepper, sticky bittering and floral hops, yeasty breaded goodness, and sweet candy malts. Flavors follow the nose with candy malts dancing with floral and citrus hop flavors---a ton of grapefruit shows on the sides and fades to the back with a bread and clove flavor with a touch of coriander. Smooth with a sticky sweet mouth feel finishes moderately dry with a bitter sticky hops aftertaste. Solid offering from a solid brewery.

I was really excited to try this one as I love saisons. Dark gold color with a fluffy white head. The aroma was noticeably weak but was peppery and floral. More pepper on the flavor with some floral hops present. Some citrus and Belgian yeast notes backed up by a hefty bread malt base. Finishes slightly sticky with a whiff of alcohol. While it doesn't really stack up to its Belgian counterparts this is a solid offering.

Pours a see-thru medium orange, thin soapy white head settles to a thin ring, splotches of lace on the glass. Smell: plenty of pineapple and grass upfront, orange peel, sugar cookie; also some powdery latex glove jank, peppery and clove-y spice. Taste: pineapple, orange candy, sweetened grapefruit, bubblegum and clove notes. Medium bodied, creamy-fluffy feel, slightly drying and sweet finish. Hoppy and fruity, this could fit well in the belgian ipa category. Nice, kind of scattershot. 2015, 7.8%.
