Into a mug, it pours a dark brown body with a two and a half finger off-white/slightly tan head that gets a bit lumpy here and there; the smell is pine, wood, earthy, slight roasted coffee, roasted barley - perhaps if so, well its ever so subtle; hops coming out as the beer warms; the taste is mainly bitter and roasty through previously mentioned flavors, coffee aftertaste, dry finish, the palate is light to medium, semi-sessionable; overall: well, I’d say it fits the style pretty good, glad I tried it, and well, I might come back to this, unsure...

I tried this at the Warwick, served chilled in a pint glass.

The color is black with no light passing through and thck tan head with good lace. The smell is slightly hop oriented with fruity quality and mild dark malt in the nose with slight woody odor. The feel is good, not very bitter moderate perhaps with light malt sweetness and gentle fruity hop texture with slight yeast and dry spiced aspect in the finish.

The flavor is good with nice balance of dried fruity from the malt with moderate sweet yet herbal and pine-like hops keep the flavor focused more on hops with slight dark sugar backing with an almost woody element in the taste with mild prune-like quality with a dry spiced finish. Interesting beer to see a black ale with elevated hops that could have been the predecessor to today's Black IPA's with nice traditional take on the style.

This beer has what I enjoy in a black IPA; crispness, slightly smoky but easy to drink without being overpowered with any of the malts or hops.

So thin. No foreward taste of much. It all kinda blends. I do like the carbonation of it though- it's kinda like Sri Lanka: not as latent as a stout or porter, still stays in touch with India.

Pours dark brown to black. A creamy light brown head lasts. Lacing sticks.

The smell is of chocolate, coffee, pine, herbal notes.

The taste is of chocolate, roasted coffee with a bitter hop finish.

Smooth medium-to-full body.

Hop-forward, but balanced by firm, rich dark malt. Flavors blend well!

Pours a black color. 1/2 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of hops, sweet malt, roasted malt, hint of yeast, and a hint of oatmeal. Fits the style of an American Black Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of hops, sweet malt, roasted malt, hint of yeast, and a hint of oatmeal. Overall, good appearance, aroma, and body, but nothing extraordinary.
