Style: Rye Beer

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.80%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Originally released as part of our Short Batch Series, our Rhye IPA arose from our desire to play with rye malt. It's built on a Finestkind IPA chassis, with the following changes:

• We tweaked the grain bill adding 30% rye malt and swapped Aromatic malt for C-60. Rye adds a spicy note while Aromatic malt adds a more subtle flavor than C-60 but increases malt aroma.

• We lowered the mash rest temperature a few degrees, giving the final beer less body and more drinkability.

• We jacked up the dry hopping to four times the level of Finest Kind for big hop aroma.

Slightly hazed orangey apricot colored with an orangey beige head of thick and dimpled foam that lingers very long. Big hop aroma, resiny pine and orange rind, some toffee and cinnamon.

Big hoppy flavor with a mix of floral and pine, some orange rind. Good malt balance with notes of cinnamon and toffee.

Rich and full mouthfeel, creamy, filling and satisfying. Great beer.

Good one!!! Pours a cloudy honey gold color into a pint glass. Big frothy white head and thick bands of lacing on the glass. Head retention is good.

Citrus hops aroma. Pleasant but not super strong.

Tastes good. Nice and bitter with mostly citrus hops. The rye sourness is noticible, mostly in the finish.

Mouthfeel is crisp, not too light. Alcohol is not noticeable.

Enjoyable as either an AIPA or a Rye beer.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, 2013 vintage bottling. Pours lightly hazy golden amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, orange rind, apricot, floral, grass, rye, biscuit, light caramel, light pine, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with balanced hop and malt notes; with decent strength. Taste of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, apricot, orange rind, pine, floral, grass, biscuit, rye, light caramel, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of grassy/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, apricot, floral, grass, light pine, biscuit, rye, light caramel, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity of citrus hops and balanced malt flavors; with a crisp malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy, smooth, and fairly sticky/crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice rye IPA. Good balance and complexity of citrus hop and rye/bready malt flavors; and smooth and crisp to sip on. A nicely enjoyable offering.
