A-Black in the glass but a clear brown when pouring. One finger off white head that leaves some lacing.

S-Roasted malt, some burnt as well, dark chocolate.

T-Mainly roasted and burnt malt. Very slight coffee. Mild chocolate as well. Bitterness in the finish.

M-Medium bodied, nice carbonation and slightly creamy.

O-A good imperial stout. Very glad to have tried it.

Black but more transparency than most in the style which reveals a red color, perfect medium head
Smells of chocolate, slight coffee, and a bit of sweetness
Taste is HEAVY, stark bitterness that shakes the spine and feels acidic to the tongue. Not much malt sweetness is there to save you from the depths of this abysmal bitterness.
Mouth feel is drunk
Overall I think i just barely started growing chest hair from drinking this, thank you red rock

Something new surprised that there aren't more reviews.

Black colored beer with a small brown colored head, not much to look at could pass for a glass of coke.

Smells strongly of chocolate and patent malt. Mildly fruity and slightly boozy without any particular booze except faintly Kahlua. OK but not the most aromatic beer of its type.

Starts out toasted grain and slight chocolate. Coffee and chocolate with a slight milk taste. Basic RIS flavor but this thing is super mild in flavor. Conflicted it is super easy to drink but this simply isn't complex, it tastes like a milk stout but kicks like a Russian Mule.

Mouthfeel is on the light side.

Overall this is the easiest to drink RIS I have ever tasted. What it lack in complexity it makes for in being a stealth 10+ % Beer. I give it a 5 for its amazing easy to drink qualities.

Very nice dark chocolate brown-black look with a surprising 2 finger head in my Thulsa Doom chalice that never produces a head!

Rich aromas of licorice and leather. Some faint chicory. Extremely simple, but really pure.

Flavors come off strong with lots of smokiness, metallic leather. Suggestions of tobacco, some dark fruits, and vegetal earth. I would guess this was brewed with smoked malts. As it warms it grows more metallic and harder to drink.

Feel is relatively creamy, kind of smokey, dry, like a dry rub. Yeah. Smokey dryness on the finish.

Overall, nothing I feel strongly about returning to. Very smokey, but the green veggie and metallic elements get in the way. Once it sat at room temperature for a good 20 minutes it was drain pour material. A good half was wasted :-(

Had some time at the SLC airport before my flight to PDX, so thought I'd give this a try (bottle was $9, which at SLC is a veritable steal).

The beer pours a dark brown color with pretty decent head retention and lacing. On the nose, there's some noticeable licorice/anise, burnt toast, vanilla and dark coffee. The flavor profile replicates the nose in this beer, with the licorice and burnt toast flavor dominating in the finish. There's also some noticeable caramel flavor, thought it's not very prominent. This really comes across as more of a strong brown ale/Schwartz beer, rather than a RIS. The burnt toast flavor dries out the modest sweetness in this beer pretty well. Mouthfeel is otherwise medium bodied, with a dry, roasty, burnt toast finish. Alcohol is pretty well integrated into the flavor profile, though you can tell it's up there a bit. Drinkability is OK, though I wasn't tempted to order a second beer, even if my flight wasn't about to take off without me.

Shrug. A decent enough beer, but definitely nothing special either. Pretty sure I won't need to revisit this any time soon.

Named after the Slavic spirit of the night. Pours a near black color with red glints around the edges. Excellent foam, and creamy and spritzy in the mouth.

Strong and tangy. Sharp with alcohol and more dry than a lot of RIS. Also a lighter body. Nutty like pecans, a sweet malty taste, and lots of roasted flavors. Some burnt sugar and charred barley. Rather hot but there's a nice winey character.

From the 500 ml bottle tasted at the Red Rock restaurant in downtown Salt Lake.

Ashy and grey black. Or deep muddy brown. Or some combination thereof. Thin manilla foam that is really more a veneer than a capper. A few small islands.

Nose is... nondescript. Some genial sweet molasses undertones and creamy insinuations, but there's not that much there. Acid. Coffee.

Dry, bitter, with a sharp lactic sweetness underpinning. But a definite acrid black coffee in the front. Crisp. Bright pinprick of carbonation.
Oh, holy carp, this is over 10%. I NEVER would have guessed. Seriously, probably would have estimated like half that. I'm also very bad at estimating alcohol content but that's neither here nor also here.

Really, this gives me much more of a dry irish vibe than anything behind the late curtain. Or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. It can be both!

Lot 482 01/21/14

Poured into a Squatters true pint glass a very nice black color, nice carbonation, with a nice one-finger creamy tan head, which does not last that long, leaves some nice oil slicks and sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, with some nice chocolate notes, slightly roasty, slight vanilla note. The taste is malty, with some dark notes thrown in, nice roastyness, again slight vanilla note, this RIS is not that harsh compared to other RIS, it's kinda mild. Medium body, ABV hidden very well. Overall a slightly different kind of RIS one worth checking out. Way to go Red Rock!
