A-An aggressive pour yields a deep copper color with two fingers of off-white head that leaves behind thick lacing.
S-Smells of deep roasted coffee and light caramel notes.
T-Roasted, yet not overpowering, coffee notes with some fruity esters and light caramel.
M-Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and a dryness from the coffee in the finish.
D-I thought the coffee would overwhelm this beer, but this is actually a pretty well balanced beer. I'd like to have this one again.

Unknown vintage; drank 7/23/15 @ the Yarchives.
See-through brown/red appearance.
A rough pour yielded a small khaki head; nice lace.
Fresh roasted coffee beans & toffee notes in the nose.
Medium thin mouthfeel.
Coffee & mild raspberry flavors.
A simple, easy to drink coffee beer.

Interesting.
Interesting style. Anchor Steam has ten times as many "Hads" as the #2 and twenty times Oscura at #4.
Interesting brewery in a cultural center in a very small town in the middle of little (70 miles west of Madison, yet has Frank Lloyd Wright's main home/studio and a world class classical repertory theater.)
Interesting beer with the coffee addition that calms the carbonation and boosts the mildly flavored style. I will have Oscura again.

Pours a clear pale golden color with off-white head. Not much coffee on the nose, a little green bell pepper though; follows onto the palate. Lingering malt on the finish.

A: Brilliant deep amber to light brown, ¼” lacy off white foam collar.
S: Fresh grain, coffee, pale malt aromas – not a lot of hops.
T: Grainy malt flavors with some light coffee and roast barley a little chocolate, some light roasted malt, along with the coffee – more dry than sweet, not a lot of hops.
F: Very creamy texture just shy of a medium body, medium carbonation.
O: The coffee comes across a little different in a lighter beer – it is not competing with the roast malt flavors so it is a little less like espresso.

Aroma is of nuts, caramel, toast, and mild smoke. It's the only good point to this beer. Pours deep gold with no head or lacing. Flavor has a faint caramel note in the background. The rest is old, used coffee grounds to the point of being overwhelming. A totally different coffee flavor than can be found in stouts. Light-medium mouthfeel with coffee ground finish. Supposedly it's a California Common style beer, it's nowhere close to the prototype Anchor Steam. Not recommended.
