They call it a farmhouse ale, BA calls its a wild ale, reviewers overrate it either way.

Cracked this on a warm weekend about five years ago in the folk's backyard. Poured an amber color with 1/4" off white head, but the head crashed into almost nothing. I thought this was going to have more of a red or pinkish appearance.

Aroma was lemon-cherry lacto sourness. Didn't come off like a saison in the aroma at all (and not much so in the appearance either). I'm seeing why its called a wild ale here despite the commercial naming tug job.

Taste seemed to have more alcohol going for it than it should. Bit of a bite. Bit of acetic acid. I don't really get this beer. Didn't hate it, didn't loathe it, but just not sure where they thought this was a saison. Some citrus and plum notes, its tart, its sour, its kind of weird. Has a heavier mouth feel presence, I dunno if the carbonation was too mute or what. I didn't get the brett notes others did.

05/2014 bottling served cold in a teku

Appearance: great bottle artwork. Classy. Poured out a light honey color with tons of small bubble carbonation. 2 finger pale yellow head. No sticky lacing.

Nose: tart lacto, lemons, bready, sour apricot

Taste: clean lacto sourness, slight Brett funk, lemons, limes, stone fruit in the begin g with a lingering juicy Ness in the finish. Not very complex but very crushable.

Overall: great tart saison here. Not much depth of flavor but a nice and refreshing beer to enjoy on a hot day. I like that it is only 6.3%, not some big acid bomb that I am forced to share. I could use more Brett character but it is nice either way.

From a 750 ml bottle to a tulip. Bottled March 24, 2014. Reviewed from notes dated March 19, 2016.

A-This two-year-old bottle still has plenty of pop. Carbonation supports a three-finger-tall head of nearly white foam. Retention is good and there is some chunky lacing on the glass. The beer is murky and straw colored with lots of bubbles.

S-The aroma is a pleasantly tart mixture of fruity brett flavors like pineapple, apple, and barnyard. The beer is not face puckeringly sour, but it has a nice dose of acidity.

T-The taste is similar. I get some fruit flavors like green apple, pineapple, and orange creamsicle. The sourness doesn't melt teeth, but it pulls a little at my glands and mixes well with the musty, lightly funky brett flavors. I also taste a bit of wheat malt that mellows things a bit.

M-The body is medium in heft with an active carbonation that feels voluminous but soft on the palate.

O-This beer is a pleasant surprise. It drinks very easy -- almost like a tart saison at this point -- and offers decent complexity. If you are looking for huge acidity or funky fruit or something, you might look elsewhere, but if you have one of these bottles laying around, give it a shot.

Pale orange with a short-lived off-white froth. Musty aroma with ripened pear, green apple and orange. Tart up front with more funk in the trunk. Pear, green apple and white grape complete the fruit profile. Straw and grain are mixed in somewhere. Lemon peel is noticed in the aftertaste. Light to medium and dry-ish with plenty of acidity...whoa where's the tums!

A nice little sipper fer sure.

Hazy gold with two fingers of frothy white head. Tart citrus fruits and a bit of spicy yeast and dry light grain on the nose. Taste is sour citrus, mild dry funk, a touch of light grains and lime leaf. Medium-light body, strong carbonation.

Poured from a chilled bomber into a room temperature tulip.

A: Pours a lovely orange copper, zero head retention.

S: Light herbs and funk, with a little sour plum. It was breezy where I was drinking, that may have taken away from it.

T: Not a lot going on; it was funky on the palate with lots of sour plum on the back end. Underwhelming.

M: Low level carbonation that leads to a filmy, funky feel on the palate which is typical of sour ales and my mouth.

O: A decent sour Abbey; I would have preferred more plum. Not bad, but I doubt I'll venture another.

Poured out of a 750 ml bottle into one of my tulip glasses, this beer pours a somewhat cloudy/hazy, medium golden color with lots of streams of little bubbles continuously and rapidly rising towards the beer's surface. Has a nice, thick fluffy white head that is about 2 inches thick when first poured that settles to a solid inch. Eventually settles finally to a very thick ring lining the inside of the glass along with a nice surface coating film layer of foam and decent lacing. Aromas of funkyness, white grape, citrus, and some wheat and malt notes. Has a nice lemon and green apple tart sourness upfront. Also slightly vinegary and has some crisp malts and wheat. Has a nice earthy, woody aspect to it tastewise as well. Has a crisp, frothy and creamy, medium bodied mouthfeel with fairly heavy carbonation. Very easy to drink for a sour with the crisp malt and wheat flavors and the fairly light body compared to some other American Wild Ales I've had. Pretty solid beer all around, but not the best representation of this style that I have had.
