Poured from a 750mL caged-and-corked bottle into my Brasseurs de Garde flute. Bottled on July 26th, 2014.

Furiously active unfiltered Mikado yellow body boils away beneath five fingers of cream colored rocky soft peaks. Sticky lacing, superior retention.

Pleasing yeasty funk in the nose adds complexity to the bursting citrus notes that dominate the aroma.

The flavor profile is full of juicy citrus notes as well, only just balanced by the woodsy/peppery elements from the grains of paradise and coriander all riding atop a soft creamy malt body. Very low bitterness and maybe just the slightest hint of fresh cut grass from the hops. Finishes bittersweet with a puckering funk as the yeast and grapefruit join forces.

Creamy mouthfeel, soft with good carbonation, but almost flacid in a way.

The added citrus peels and to a lesser degree the spices dominate the flavor profile, making this a delicious, but overdone version of the style - the added flavors while tasty are something of a crutch and tend to obscure some of the traditional strengths of this style.

i thought it was a well-balanced beer. I prefer my saison's a little more on the tart side, and maybe with a bolder yeast, but it was a great buy. Really balanced, good mouth feel, nice appearance, and that's all i can really ask for. Being 6.99 at Trader Joe's, it seems a little pricey, but then again, that's about as much as a pint at a bar.

750 ml shared 2014 bottle.
Pours with a large durable white head over a golden body.
Funky and fruity aroma, in about equal measure.
Flavor follows but is moderately tart as well. It's also stronger than expected give the aroma. Mild bitterness.

750 into a tulip. Pours a hazy yellow-orange with a sizable white head that dissipates quickly, but not too fast. Aroma is of straw and fruity esters with the brett funk in there for good measure. Flavor opens with crisp apple, moves to estery banana. Finishes with a nice bitter citrus peel. Could be a work horse Saison in your stable (fridge). Price is right as well.

Very tastey, nicely balanced and at $7 it's a deal and a half!

From the corked, caged 750 ml. bottle. Sampled on January 2, 2015.

Unfiltered pale-yellow-orange pour with a quick lasting white fizzy head.

Aromas of Saison yeast, toast, grapefruit...or more closely resembling white grapes, and light spice.

Medium body.

Toasty and tart flavor. Green apple, grapes or grapefruit in the mix.

750 purchased at the COOP last week... Enjoyed tonight from my Funk Fest goblet... Pours a fairly clear orange.. white head rises up and dies back nearly as quickly... spotty lacing.

Nose shows apricot fruitiness with plenty of bubblegum phenols... the spices are IMO a bit too much and distraction, why not just let the yeast speak?

Flavor is a little thin... yeasty phenolic notes are one dimensional with a big carbonic bite.. coriander is loud and proud and tooooo much for the beer (I honestly don't understand all the spice additions in this one)... fruity apricot notes on the finish bring this back...

Body and bubble are fine... but the overall brew leaves quite a bit to be realized with future batches.
