Poured from a cork'n'cage bomber into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Murky mud brown pour with thin fizzy white head. Modest ring of lacing.

S: Tart and funky... plum and dark fruits.

T/F: Follows the nose. Tart up front with unripened fruits and plum. Acidic with some light vinegar notes... more plum and fruit mid to late swig. A bit of funk... prune, raisin, lemon rind, and earth with some brown sugar buried far in the mix. Medium to light bodied... decent carbonation.

O: A pleasant sour... good complex flavor and the promised plum comes through nicely. A fun little beer.

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a dark purple to ruddy brown color with a one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated immediately. Barely any lacing stuck around but what was there rode right on into the beer. The smell started off with sugared plums,. Light biscuits slyly move in underneath sour citrus rind. Light dry woodiness adds a nice edge. The taste encompasses all of the previously mentioned flavors and yields to a dry sour to dry tart and tanginess leading into the aftertaste and having a dry sour tangy finish. On the palate, this was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Carbonation runs appropriately for an American Wild ale. Overall, interesting American Wild ale where the aroma doesn’t exactly match the flavor, I liked it for me, pretty sure I could revisit this.

Poured from the 750 into stemmed Teku glass.
Pours a nice garnet color with one finger of head the dissipates.
Aromas are some mild sour yeatiness with nice fruit presence.
Flavor is tart, a bit acidic with raisin, grape and plum notes prominent.
Mouthfeel was good.
Honestly there wasn't a ton wrong here, maybe a bit muddles flavor wise. But I liked it!

Thanks to Groleau for the share!

Has a nice discreet plum presence especially in the finish. Certainly has Belgian influence but no yeast attributes. Love the finish, dry with a bit of cork.

Copper/amber with a fluffy, uniform white head across the whole surface. Minimal spotty lacing. No legs.

Somewhat bland nose, and what's there isn't great. Overly sweet. Reminds me of Red Bull, akin to liquid Smarties. Light spice found in Belgian yeast, and a little bit of caramel malt.

Flat out gross. Like 40% poorly aged dubbel mixed with 60% tap water. Malty and minute spice. Light tartness on the back end, but it's somewhat of a sharp, astringent sour. Little to no plums present, but the bottle is getting up there in age, so I can't fault that aspect. The vomit notes mentioned in other reviews are way overblown.

Low-ish carbonation. Light body, but kind of syrupy. Bready and dry finish.

Bad sour, bad Belgian, bad beer. Complete waste of money.

Very dark amber with no head. Very faint nose that hints if fruit. Taste does show the plum, but the beer base is less than good. Belgian notes muted. Heavier than expected body and lacking carbonation.

The aroma on this interesting but not in a good way. It has this overwhelming artifical sugar / fruit smell that is almost exactly like a Twizzler. There is some pale malt underneath but it has that dreaded sawdust smell, and the two aren't a good combo. The taste profile fairs a little better. As others have said it isn't super-sour, just more of a lactic / vinegar note on the end. Beyond that you just get a lot of the fruit notes like plum, fig, anc raisin, but it is very artificial tasting, like a fruit cake. Again the malt bill is off and has that vomit like tone. Overall, this one misses pretty wide of the mark.

750 ml bottle was poured into a snifter.

Appearance: A minimal head was poured that reduced to nothing quickly. It is a copper amber color with great clarity and vision of tiny bubbles coming up through the glass.

Smell: Plums, bready, caramel, figs, Belgian yeast.

Taste: Awesome plum and fig notes, brady, and caramel malts, tart notes, and Belgian yeast. Some chewy notes in there too.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, a little chewy, a little yeasty, medium to high carbonation, a little dry, and a little tart.

Overall: More of an abbey ale with plums than a wild or sour ale. Still enjoyable and I look forward to next year's anniversary beer.

Bottle.

A: Upfront plums, stone fruit, a fair amount of sourness and a bit of sharp bourbon on the finish. There is a secondary aroma from the “wild yeast” that smells super off and makes me forget about all the other aromas I just named.

A: Amberish color, quite opaque with a light head that quickly recedes into a thin film.

T: Plums, lightly sweet malt, mixed with a moderate sourness – slight vinegar note with a moderate woody character.

M: Medium-light bodied with moderate carbonation. There is a moderately light acidity.

O: Smells a bit off, but drinks much better. The plums and moderate sourness are a solid compliment to the lightly sweet malt – but could do without the aroma. Hopefully it was flaw just exhibited in this bottle.

The beer has a nice orange amber hue to it with a thin light colored head. I can smell the tartness of the beer but I have a bit of a cold so I'm missing any of the subtler notes that may be present. It has a nice smooth tartness and a dry finish. I taste fruit notes and the plum flavors, the beer is thin in body. The taste is what I expect from a Belgian Sour beer.

First, very nice sour plum beer. It's very tart and sour with ripe plum fruitiness coming through. Like the aroma, there's a very prominent aged wood note throughout. Tart, dry finish. Aroma is Belgian yeast with rich dark fruit like rich with overripe sweet fruits. Will buy again and recommend to friends.

This was a real treat, beautiful appearance, lovely aroma, always nice when a sour has a nice smell. Just the right amount of sour so you know you're drinking a sour beer but not too much. A real treat!

Poured into a St. Bernardus goblet.

Look: Opaque rusty amber colored body with a light cream colored head. After the head recedes, only a collar of foam remains with light spots of lacing.

Aroma: A sour vinegar note to start with earthy vines and plums. Sharp bourbon barrel notes in the finish.

Taste: Very tart and sour with ripe plum fruitiness coming through. Like the aroma, there's a very prominent aged wood note throughout. Tart, dry finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, dry.

Overall: Pretty straight-forward with minimal fruitiness, a lot of aged wood without being overbearing.

Look is reddish brown bordering with purple highlights.

Thin frothy head.

Aroma is Belgian yeast with rich dark fruit like rich with overripe sweet fruits.

very sour flavor with a thin body for over 8%. Balanced Abbey malt.

Not a great Abbey but a decent kinda sour?

Had this on tap and definitely didn't get any of the vomit/infected cheese flavors that other reviewers are describing. Enjoyable, although not the most amazing wild ale by any means.

Bought this beer well before reading any reviews. Last year's Birthday Suit was awesome, so was excited about this one.

Was apprehensive though, especially after hearing the reviews mentioning vomit like aromas. Thankfully, no vomit perceived here! It is a strange beer though... The sour plum definitely comes through, but it's one dimensional. It's not offensive, just nothing special. The "abbey" base is fine, although I hesitate to call it a true abbey, more like a Belgian Pale.

A decent beer, but not up to Uinta's usual high standards. A beer that probably sounded pretty good on paper but didn't quite deliver.

This beer is good—it looks nice, tastes nice, and feels nice, but it smells kind of...funky. It's got good sour notes but it's not so prominent that you really feel you're drinking a sour, or an Abbey Ale for that matter. It's good overall, and worth a second look, but it isn't a beer that immediately grabs you and tells you to get it again.

L: It pours hazy plum under a quickly dissipating off-white foam cap. S: Tart plum aromas lightly laced with tobacco and lemon rise from the glass. T: Dry, tart plum flavors lead the attack over a background of malt, lemon and yeast flavors. F: Effervescent, medium light body. O: This is a really tart, lemony, refreshing beer.

L - Pours an amber body with a light tan one finger head.

S - A very belgian forward smell with light plums. Not much else going on and not very enticing.

T - The taste a mix of light belgian notes along with tart plums. I'm really liking this tart plum taste.

F - Light bodied and high carbonation. Leaves a dry finish.

O - A tart plum beer with belgian qualities. I'm not sure why this is so low rated as its very good to me.

Pours a murky amber brown color. Not much head retention.

The nose is sour, or maybe wine-like would be a better way to put it. Some plums noticed but barely so.

The flavor is slightly tart and sour, but not overly so. Again, the taste occassionally reminds me of wine. Prunes are noticed not every sip, but close.

It could use a tad more carbonation. There isn't anything about this beer I truly love, but its not bad either. If you're into sours, its worth a try.

L: cloudy, highly carbonated, tight but quickly dissolving head
S: not much on the nose, maybe a little Belgian yeast
T: tart, vinegary, dark fruit on the finish
F: light body, but coats the tongue
O: I don't like wild ales and this is no exception

Tasted from draft at the Craft Beer Store on August 12, 2015. Look is amber, head is thin but holds, with thin lacing. Smell is a somewhat unpleasant blend of sweet dark fruit, tart fruit, earthy hops and Belgian yeast. Taste is over-ripe dark fruit, tart acidic fruit, dank hops and sour grains. Feel medium with high carbonation leading to a crisp finish.

Had this on draft at Canlis in Seattle. They were out of my first choice so I went with this one and was really impressed. It's a sour beer for people who don't want their sours too tart. Tastes like plums and other fruits. Very drinkable, very tasty, very good.

Bottled on 05-15

Pours an effervescent amber/orange with a sliver of off-white head. Viscous look to this, traces of head retention & lacing

S: Plum & Pear, honey & tangerine once warm

T: Follows the nose, some honey & dryness, plus delicate tartness up front, plus the tangerines. Tartness, just a hint of salt, & more tangerine once warm. Finishes very tart, nice sour tangerine & a little salt, if there are plums in this, it is more like the dried Li Hing MUI (sic) plums I had a hate/love/hate relationship with in Hawaii. Just got better as it warmed

MF: Medium bodied, slight carbonation & I do believe the enamel might getting stripped off my teeth

Pretty drinkable, this is a bit of a different sour, well worth your consideration
