Notes: This beer is retired; no longer brewed. Flamingose is a tart and salty German style Gose beer made with pineapple and pays tribute to Utah's own "Pink Floyd" the Flamingo. If your not familiar with Floyd, he was a Chilean Flamingo that freed himself from his home at SLC's Tracey Aviary in 1990. Floyd took up residence at the Great Salt Lake immediately and somehow thrived. He's called the briny lake home ever since. Floyd's current whereabouts are unknown.

a neat gose here, the first one i can recall ever having with pineapple, and an absolute crusher of a beer in warm weather. they were smart to keep the tartness down, its minimally acidic and very approachable, hardly even a sour beer at all, which helps keep it super drinkable and should expand its appeal. the pineapple is a great touch too, its natural enough tasting, and not so forward as to make this sweet but it gives it a great tropical layer where a lot of brewers opt to have a juicy dry hopping come out. i like the pineapple here, and i think it makes this mighty distinct. i can still taste and appreciate the clean wheat in the grain base, and actually, of all the added elements, i think the salt is the most forward, with a real sharp brine element to it and some trace minerals that give it a neat finish and mouthfeel. lemony notes to the lacto souring, but its no more than tart here, optimally refreshing. overall a very unique fruited gose, and while it may seem a little dialed back and safe to those of us who prefer them a bit more evolved from a yeast standpoint, you have to appreciate the itch this one scratches. clever stuff here from unita!

22 ounce bottle - $5.99 at Bullock's Wine & Spirits in Marietta, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a clouded, slightly murky-looking, dulled gold body with a medium-sized, whitish head.

Smell: A lightly tart, tangy aroma of pineapple, wheat malt, lemon and brine.

Taste: Lightly tangy wheat with soft touch of pineapple overlayed with a bit of tartness and lemony citrus. Subtle spice of coriander. Salinity is modest. Gently drying, lightly tart finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation. Mouthfeel is a bit tingly.

Overall: Pretty good.

Gold in color with a very hazy complexion. There's a quarter inch of frothy dishwater white on top. Coriander leads the nose with pineapple a close second. The sea salt comes in a distant third. The taste is a remarkable balance of sea salt, pineapple, and coriander. I'm surprised at how well this all comes together. The mouth is thick and salient.

Fresh bottle served at a bit warmer than cellar temps in a teku

Love the bottle presentation; very tropical and festive. Poured a hazy pale straw color with a clingy white head and lots of carbonation. Nose is Brett funk, pineapple, very tropical, mildly tart, citrus and sweet. The taste follows the nose very well, is not very sour at all, pretty sweet but not in a bad way. Very enjoyable brew.

Bottle from Brewers Haven. Hazy pale golden body. Small wispy head. Musty aroma, kind of salty/ seawater. A little bit more citrus in the taste , coriander makes itself known. Minor saltiness at the finish. Muted pineapple, gentle gose.

Pours hazy, gold in color with 1/3 inch head. Taste is grain, light hops, pineapple--juice and pulp. Light bodied, slightly sweet, and medium light salt. Makes for a nice afternoon sipper. Really nicely done.

22 oz bottle poured into snifter best before date of 10/28/16

A: Big pillowy white creamy looking head. Body is a murky dense brownish gold color.

S: Lots of wheat, coriander, and saline qualities, with just pinches of pineapple the wheat give it an almost pineapple cake smell.

T: Nice light saltiness, deep wheat, and hints of pineapple.

M: Light, crisp, clean, a touch creamy as well.

O: This is a very nice gose nice levels of saltiness balanced by very nice wheat and light traces of pineapple. Very refreshing and easy to drink.

On tap:
Morning juice dark yellow, could imagine it's pineapple juice. Nice sustaining head.

Nose is an odd funky fruit note, indistinct but with a slight tart lean. Get the impression of wheat, also (which I rarely get in Gose).

I can get the pineapple - but thanks to the nature of the base beer, any sweet note is lost. The result is more of a melon flavor, and a lightly funky/tart/bitter one, maybe near the rind. I think the lighter saline note helps promote this. Pineapple flavor grows a tad more distinct within the grander mix with warmth, and salt starts to linger I the end.

Eh-I think I was looking for a new sweet/tart variation that was more fruit beer than Gose. Maybe good it keeps true to the style, but gets to leaning more bitter than tart to me.

A: Pours a cloudy pale golden yellow in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation along the edges of the glass and faint honey orange colored highlights. The beer has a finger tall fizzy sudsy bright white head that reduces to a large patch of thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of tropical pineapple with light to moderate aromas of slightly sour wheat + biscuit malts, lemon citrus, coriander, and briny salt.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of slightly sour wheat + biscuit malts. That is followed by light flavors of lemon citrus and coriander. There is a moderate flavor of briny saltiness and a moderate flavor of tropical pineapple. Light hints of lingering tartness.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light amount of acidic prickliness.

O: Very easy to drink and quite refreshing. I think the combination of coriander, salt, pineapple is interesting and successful. Definitely glad I grabbed this one and I could easily have another.

L: Cloudy gold, with some visible bubbles, and a fat, creamy white head with shockingly long retention and lacing for a gose.

S: Diluted pineapple juice, orange juice, wheat and a heavy dash of coriander, and a touch of salt.

T: Salty upfront, which greases the palate. In the middle, tons of pineapple and orange juice, with hints of lemon. Finishes lightly dry and spicy with the coriander and the return of salt. Not super tart, but very juicy.

F: Medium to medium-light, but almost slightly creamy and well carbonated.

O: I wish it were a little more tart and the aroma exploded a little more, but overall, this is very tasty gose. Juicy and thirst-quenching. I highly recommend it!

Does look like pineapple juice in a glass.

Aroma: pineapple, salt (brine), faint coriander, lemon. not pungent like i've noticed with some gose, this is fruity.

Taste: the pineapple didn't show itself until it warmed up a bit, but the salt is on point. perfect. a bit too much coriander but i think thats just personal preference. i would like to see a Gose without this to compare. the tartness is like a 3 out of 10. faint sourness.

Feel: thin, light, lightly carbonated, not fizzy like lots of Gose (my preference).

Overall: all things considered this is one of the better Gose I've had. top 5 I would say, although I've only had about 15-20.

edit: I'm looking at some of the other comments/ratings, I'm surprised.. I thought this stuff was great compared to lots of Gose I've had.

A: Pours a hazy orange-yellow color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a thin cap that leaves some decent lacing

S: Some pineapple, coriander, and wheat up front with quite a bit of salinity

T: Starts off with a very mild tartness and the mix of pineapple, coriander, and wheat. Salinity is underlying and gives the beer a bit of a dry note. A general fruitiness finishes things off

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: An interesting combination of ingredients, no doubt. The pineapple and coriander clash a bit, but there is a bitterness that arises from seemingly out of nowhere towards the finish that just doesn't work that well with the light tartness that is going on. Very easy to drink and quite refreshing otherwise

Building upon the traditions of northern Germany's historic "salt" beer, the sourish wheat ale now sees an exotic sense of complexity coming way of tropical fruit- namely pineapple. Blending in with the beer's natural acidity and citrus flavors gives a rounded, juicy and irresistibly curious flare.

Flamingose pours a cloudy golden hue with an arid and whipping white froth. Its sour and salty scent strikes the senses like margarita. A light and earthy perfume is cellar-like with the taste of mild dough, baking bread and saltwater taffy looming.

Crisp and refreshing on the middle palate, its the beer's deeply embedded lime, lemon, crabapple, white grape and slight-of-vinegar sourness that takes the lead. An overlay of pineapple offers the tropical taste that evokes the character of suntan lotion to accompany the mix. Trailing with a saline finish, the beer takes on a fuller flavor, rounded body and complex savory taste that's largely irresistible.

Medium-light for sour, the beer's undertow of wheat keeps the session firmly supported even with the acidity and fruity tang washing the palate with moderate sourness. Lightly of mineral, the beer's finish is fruity, tart and comfortably refreshing.

Poured into a tumbler glass.

Look: The cloudiest, densest muted straw yellow I have ever seen. A thick white head that retains well with patches and random squiggly lines of lacing.

Aroma: Wheat, malts, pineapple juice, salt.

Taste: Really salty up front with sweet pineapple juice and tanginess following. Light coriander notes.

Mouthfeel: Medium to light in body.

Overall: Liked the idea, kind of funky and not sure that pineapple and salt make the best friends.

A: Cloudy yellow with ample head; fine carbonation.
S: tropical fruit, plenty of pineapple, Uinta yeast, salt
T: Has all the characteristics of a refreshing gose with just the right amount of salt and pineapple, but the 'house yeast' flavor pervades this beer as with all other Uintas (except the heavy hitters)
M: Crisp, clean, yet surprisingly full for the style
O: One of the better beers at Uinta; had this from a bottle into a tulip. Great balance and flavors, very refreshing...but it still tastes like a Uinta. It would be great to see them break out of their mold a little more and experiment not just with new styles but with new yeasts or brewing locations to get some new base flavors.

Straw yellow with some whisps of lazy lacing on the surface.

Some hay and funk on the nose, with the pineapple.

It tastes like a pineapple IPA combined with toothpaste. It doesn't work for me.
