How good do I have it here in LanCANster, PA? I really wanted to add this one to The CANQuest (tm), but I could not find it anywhere! 8=( Lo & behold, the Friendly Greek Bottle Shop (FGBS) got in mixed 12-packs with this one included. I persuaded them to break up one of the packs into singles & the Grapefruit flew since it seems that a bunch of us were looking for it. Wow!

From the CAN: "Beer Brewed with Renewable power - wind & solar"; "Pack it in - Pack it out"; "Stalk us?"; "Juiced by Uinta Brewing Co Salt Lake City Utah USA"; "Undeniably craft[,] unthinkably drinkable"; "Goes well with Anywhere."; "Forget the map, pack the Uinta".

This was one of those beers that could have multiple designations. The CAN even reads: "Fruit Ale" & so it CAN be thought of as simply another AIPA OR as a Fruit & Field Beer, which to my way of thinking is more apropos. Think of it like this - Hop Nosh is definitely an AIPA, but when fruit is used as an adjunct to the point of top billing, is it still simply an AIPA?

I was anxious to Crack! open the vent on this one after a rough day of teaching & instruction, lemme tell you! It was nice & loud & it was all that I could do NOT to perform an inverted Glug into the awaiting glass. Instead, I went with the usual slow, gentle, C-Line glug inspired by Auggie Busch. Man, it was excited to exit its extruded metal shell & greet me! It quickly formed just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with marvelous retention which, upon falling away, left glorious lacing in its wake! Color was Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with NE-quality clarity & now I had The Gelt Gang of Croesus, Midas & Mammon fighting with me for a taste. Nose smelled like my morning grapefruit juice! 8=O Mmm. Mouthfeel was an unimpressive medium, but if that is the worst thing that I say about this beer, then that would be saying something! The taste was extremely grapefruit, very bitter & very satisfying (if you like that sort of thing). The taste of this one left me weepy in thinking about the Tropical AIPA trend since this flavor profile is exactly what my hophead self craves & prefers. Finish was dry, bitter, grapefruit & just my thing.

If scurvy hasn't met its match by now, it's in serious jeopardy as the steadfast IPA of Uinta, Hop Nosh, gets a citrusy overhaul that's equipped with the juice, peel, pith and ribs of the red grapefruit for an undeniable boost of vitamin c.

Grapefruit Hop Nosh pours, bright golden and with a clear shade of orange and a light translucent haze. Its frothy lather carries a healthy heaping of citrus perfume. While grapefruit is certainly the forerunner, an undertow of radiant orange, lighter lemon and mango soon follows. A medium caramel sweetness glosses the tongue and gives the fruity hop impressions a sense of branch ripeness, juiciness and a nearly teeth-churning tanginess.

A backbone of biscuit, bread crust and graham crackers retreat and allow the hops and grapefruit additions to carry the bulk of the load across the middle palate. Radiant with tangerine, lemon and passionfruit, the flavors grow into a taste of bitter sherbet or cream sickle but with an earthy, grassy hop bite. Sharply bitter with the aggression of hops, the bitterness is given greater heft with the help of those gullet gripping grapefruit peels, piths and ribs.

Medium-bodied and retaining light sweetness, the ale's hops and citrus oils effectively strip the palate and usher in a high sense of refreshment and drinkability albeit that aggressive bitterness has moved on from the smoother and more rounded bitterness of hops alone. Grassy with verbena, leaf and herbal notes, the aftertaste is of fresh green hops and freshly squeezed fruit juices.

Grapefruit Hop Nosh IPA brewed by Uinta Brewing Company, with an ABV of 7.30% This American IPA pours out a deep golden amber color with a nice white head. There is also a nice amount of lacing to this American IPA, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell is bold with earthy grains, malts a d citrus flavors. You also pick up a good amount of hop bitterness in the smell of this brew. Between the look and smell this is one inviting brew. Now for the taste, it is bold with grapefruit, citrus, hoppy bitterness. There is a lot going on in this American IPA. This IPA has a lot of bold notes to it. You also pick up a good amount of earthy grains and malts, in the taste of this brew. I can't get over how smooth this brew goes down. It is really hard to pick up on the 7.30% ABV in this brew it is just that smooth. There is nothing overpowering about this American IPA, it has a real nice balance to it. The mouth feel of Grapefruit Hop Nosh IPA is Bold, Clean, Hoppy, Grapefruit, Smooth and Refreshing. Overall I'm giving this American IPA a 4.50 out of 5. I would look this brew up again giving the opportunity to. Uinta Brewing Company, did a real nice job with this brew.

12oz can into Nonic Pint
BB 11/13/18
Iight brown with thin white head
Straight grapefruit juice
Caramel, and then grapefruit juice,  with grapefruit pith on the finish
Medium-bodied, average carbonation, easy drinking
Overall thisis solid but not great, as the added grapefruit is too dominant for my liking

Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Smells sweet grapefruit a hint of malt, and some pine as well. Tastes grapefruit: both tart and bitter with mild sweetness. Toasty malt in the back, with more pine resin. Grapefruit doesn't let any hop character shine through. Finishes dry. Medium bodied.

Hard grapefruit front, with a circus IPA/hop middle and finish. Oily hop finish.

Taste rating in words: Squeezing a fruit, the juices go everywhere and your hands smell of citrus.

Appearance: Pours an cloudy, glowing orange, peach color with a crystal white head. SRM of 11. (4.00)

Aroma: Huge aromas of grapefruit, juicyfruit, bubblegum, and peach. Then some tropical melon and berry underneath. Very fruity. (4.00)

Flavor: Huge grapefruit flavor. Tons of grapefruit and pulpy orange juice flavor. Then more juicyfruit, bubblegum, and peach. Ends with a touch of tropical and pithy bitterness. No malts. Finishes clean and dry. (4.00)

Feel: Lighter-bodied. Great carbonation. Not too bitter, nor too sweet. Finishes balanced and clean. A touch of pithy astringency left on the tongue. (4.25)

Overall: Really one of the best grapefruit IPAs I've had. Well-balanced, complex, and has unique bubblegum flavors. Mot my favorite style for an IPA. Not a huge fruit fan, but this is one of them that I could come back to. (Final Rating: 4.03)

A juicy, grapefruit infused even says fruit ale on the can and sort of leans that way...a little too much grapefruit for my palate, but it is a drinkable IPA...

Best by 6/22/18. Consumed on 3/13/18.

Pours a blood orange color. Decent sized off white head.

Smell of extremely fresh grapefruit. The grapefruit really overpowers the brew. There is some fresh lemon and orange in there as well.
