Three bottles in, the mint flavor is overwhelming. It does taste like a peppermint patty, but in the worst way. Sip this one; don't binge it.

On draft at the Pour Taproom Wilmington. Pours pitch black color with a 2-3 finger dense and creamy khaki head with amazing retention that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing on the glass with some streaming carbonation, looks like a nitro beer almost. Aromas and flavors of big peppermint cream, dark chocolate, toast, dark bread, herbal, peppery hops. Light to moderate herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus carbonation and medium-full body. Very creamy/silky malts with balanced sticky hops and chalky roast. Increasing sticky/chalky drying after the finish. No acrid/astringent flavors. Minimal warming 8.5% abv. Tastes just like the candy! This is a spot on American style base stout as well on the malt complexity and hop balance. Loved it.

An unusual stout!!!! The usual stout maltiness takes a back seat to the chocolate and peppermint. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass, this beer is dark brown in color and fairly dense. When held to a light, some golden and reddish colors come through - more prominent on the bottom of the glass, but also faintly coming through the body. There is a medium sized light tan head with average head retention and some filmy lacing on the glass. The aroma and taste can best be described as dunking Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies into a mild milk stout. The peppermint and chocolate are featured to the max with a little lactose/malty stout in the background. The peppermint manages to avoid going over the line to annoying, but it comes pretty close!!!! On the whole, this is a pleasant experience as a "one and done" beer. Mouthfeel is fairly light and unremarkable. The peppermint and chocolate flavors dominate the show. Definitely worth a try but I wouldn't make this beer part of any rotation!!!

The first taste is Pepto Bismol, but 3 or 4 sips and the chocolate peppermint comes in. Almost gave up on it, glad I stuck around.

12oz bottle. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, khaki-colored head of bubbly foam. It left minimal lacing. It smelled strongly of peppermint, chocolate and mild caramel notes. Wow. This really tasted like a peppermint patty. Like, in liquid form.

Look: Poured from a 12oz bottle refrigerator temperature - A very black pour with light carbonation at the bottom of the glass. A bit of foam risen, tough to go down. Leaves a little bit of lacing once it dissolves over time.
Smell: Just as the bottle advertises - I definitely get the smell of peppermint, lactose, and a hint of chocolate. Like eating a peppermint chocolate bar except much stronger of a smell.
Taste: Definitely tasting the peppermint with the lactose in it. Getting some chocolate in here as well. This is so good! Wow you can't taste the alcohol at ALL in this.
Feel: light carbonation on the tongue, light bodied drink. This is an example of a really good desert stout. Not focusing to much on the carbonation but on the flavors itself. A little less carbonation and this would be on par with a nitro drink.
Overall: I looooooved this so much! The best desert stout I've ever had!! If you get lucky enough to see this bad boy in the store, grab it asap and enjoy yourself a nice treat!!!!

A: dark brown to black in body, with a light tan head.

S: smells just like a peppermint patty.

T: mint, chocolate, and malt. Simple, effective.

M: medium heavy in body, carbonation is low, and there is a creaminess to it, as well as the refreshing and brisk mint feel.

O: overall an interesting take. I dig it. I'd be interested in trying it with ice cream.

12 oz. Bottle

Been quite a few years, since having a Uinta beer.

Poured into a Trillium glass a pretty nice dark brown/black color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy/quick one-finger dark tan head, which also leaves some nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, hoppy, with a pretty nice chocolate/toffee, peppermint, vanilla, slight licorice. The taste is pretty nice, malty, hoppy, with a pretty nice touch of chocolate/toffee, peppermint, some vanilla sweetness, licorice. Medium Body, ABV is hidden very nicely, with a nice little dry/bitter/sweet finish. Overall, this is a pretty tasty beer. A different take on the style.

12 oz bottle, no date, into Boiler Red Logo snifter.
Price paid : $1.99

Light brown pour forms a dark brown to black body and a creamy half finger of beige head.

Aroma is York Peppermint Patty and a little of that dirty Uinta character - slightly salty and slightly mineral-y. Good dose of chocolate and mint though. Slight clay. Slight roasted malt/coffee.

Flavor translates fairly well but I could really use a lot more sweetness. The mint is definitely here, but the chocolate is absent in sweetness. Nutty brown malt takes its place. Slight coffee. Dusty cocoa on the finish with bitter mint.

Feel is both hot in alcohol and hot in mint. Almost burns a hole in the roof of your mouth. A bit thinner than it should be. Carbonation is properly addressed.

Overall, not one I'm apt to try again. It's not a terrible beer but it's not a great one either. Needs more sweetness and less alcohol.

This beer pours a deep black and leaves a slight white head which quickly dissipates to leave thin lacing on the side of the glass. Aroma is very minty with slight medicinal qualities. overall taste is very chocolatey with good mint flavor even enough to leave a lingering cooling sensation in your mouth. this beer does pack a fair amount of bitter flavor from the dark malts and hops. Mouth feel is medium with lingering sweetness. One of the best beers that I have had in this very limited style.

Look: Pours jet black with a creamy khaki-colored head.

Smell: Peppermint, pine, chocolate. Pretty straightforward here.

Taste: Peppermint comes through the front and then the back is layered with chocolate, coffee, malt, maybe even some caramel. Really well polished flavor without tasting artificial

Feel: Incredibly smooth, has a creamy thickness to it that just makes it a great beer to sip on during the winter. Very festive if you want to toss one back during the holidays. Great offering by Uinta.

i thought this was awesome, and having it in close proximity to the one rogue did this year, i think this is the clear winner, its still strong and boldly flavored here, but its not anywhere near as sweet, and the mint seems more natural to me, more fresh or even refreshing, not so cooked and candied, and i think that makes this stand out. its also remarkably light for its abv, even thin for a bigger stout, but its dry for what it is and the alcohol is well hidden. more brown than black in the glass, just a short little head on it. to me the aroma has a little milk chocolate and a little semisweet baking chocolate to it, natural there and working swell with the mint. the mint has a lightly spicy character and seems immediately festive, like this makes good sense at holiday time. the base stout is a little odd, like it might seem a little vacuous without the chocolate and mint, but it serves these ingredients well enough. i like that its not too sugary to drink a couple of, that its pretty clean on the finish, and that the mint pops as real to me. a trick ingredient for beer, especially dark beer, and they did a great job with it. a fun one for the season!

On tap in meridian ID; served in a chalice.

A: Not quite jet black; caramel/ruby edges of the glass reveal light; the khaki-colored head fades and doesn’t lace all that well.

S: Mint starts off at the perfect point, leading to thoughts of chocolate/peppermint candies. As the beer warms the peppermint gets a little aggressive and spicy.

T: More of the same; faint roast character barely offsets an oily and spicy peppermint character that blends well with the chocolate notes of the beer. Nice spice and warmth on the finish.

MF: Medium/full; dry on the finish.

O: Fairly well executed with a clear, spicy peppermint note; tastes authentic and not artificial.
