Poured from 12oz bottle into glass. Best by date on label is '10/27/16J'. This beer has just been hanging out in the frig, and my best intentions to drink it have been put off until now.
Body is cola color brown and clear. Lots of bubbles streaming up to support the light tan head settling into creamy cap. Good coverage of lacing around glass.
Aroma is sweet, with dark roasted malts, cocoa, coffee and dark fruit.
Taste is sweet/tangy balance, with lots of chocolate/vanilla, coffee and dark fruit. Some hop spice at the back end. Dank as the beer trails off.
Medium, supporting mouth feel, with good carbonation.
Such a good black IPA. Almost drinks like a hoppy stout, with the strong chocolate/vanilla component. Rarely found, but always on the radar.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tulip

L: Nearly black pour. 3 fingers of foamy off-white head leave great lacing.

S: Roast malts and piney hops.

T/F: Follows the nose. Good roasted grains/bitterness... the hops are bitter tending towards pine and resin. Mild sweetness comes through mid sip. Notes of coffee and chocolate paying homage to a stout. Medium to light in body... well carbonated.

O: A solid black IPA. The bitterness of the roast complements the hops without overpowering. Good mix of syles... one of the better black IPA's I've come across.

pours black as rasputin but with visible carbonation and a much more lively and annoying head, seriously, this head. it is taking up the other 8 oz of this imperial pint glass.

smell is of a strong ale with more stout, very enticing to the nose

the taste is dreadfully dense, the type of thing that will separate the men from the boys, balanced hops and dark malt are both extremely DENSE providing a shock to the taste buds

feel gets mild deduction for annoying head

overall i'd recommend buying the maximum amount of this possible, sure to please both real stout fanatics and real hop heads (not to mention the hemp therein providing them omega 3s (possibly)

I picked up a bottle of Uinta's Dubhe Imperial Black IPA for $3.49 at The Lager Mill. I've heard about this beer for a long tine and i'm interested to see how it turns out, so lets see how it goes. 2017 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into an IPA glass.

A- The label looks nice, it's got a nice design to it and it's a little eye catching. It poured a nice darker brown color that took on a some crimson hue around the edges when held to the light and it had almost two fingers worth of creamy light tan head that died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end and it left some nice rings of patchy lacing behind. This is a pretty nice looking beer, but I wish it was just a little darker.

S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the hops being the first to show up and they impart some fruity, citrus rind, light herbal and light soapy like aroma that goes into a little bit of doughy yeast. Up next comes the malts which impart a light roasted malt like aroma with some grainy, biscuit, brown bread, bread crust and light chocolate like aromas with a little more sweet malts showing up at the end. This beer has a nice aroma, but I was hoping there would be more of a roasted malt presence in the aroma.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma, but it's just a little more balanced this time and it starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the hops still being the first to show up and they impart most of the same aspects, but this time it's not soapy and there's more of a green hop flavor coming through and it's a little lighter on the citrus rind like flavors and the hops are a little lighter than they were in the aroma. Up next comes a little bit of doughy yeast which leads into the malts which show up more than they did in the aroma and they impart a little more of those chocolate and roasted malt like aspects. On the finish there's a lower amount of higher bitterness with a little more sweetness and it had a hoppy and roasted malt like flavors in the aftertaste. This is a nice tasting beer, it's got all the aspects I would expect and it's solid.

M- A little smooth, the alcohol was well hidden, a little creamy, a little velvety with a lower amount of carbonation and it's on the thicker side of being medium bodied. This beer has a pretty nice mouthfeel that worked well with this beer.

Overall I thought this beer was nice and I thought it was a solid example of the style, it's not bad, but it doesn't really stick out to much for the style and I think it would be better if the hops were more like they were in the aroma, but minus that soapy aspect. This beer has ok drinkability, one is enough for me, I wouldn't want more than that. What I like the most about this beer is the appearance and mouthfeel, they were both pretty nice. What I liked the least about this beer is the hop profile in the taste wasn't more like it was in the aroma. I don't think I would buy this beer again, but I wouldn't turn one down and I would recommend it as a solid and old school example of the style. All in all I liked this beer, but I didn't love it and I think with a little more work this could be a pretty good Black IPA, it just needs a little bit of an update. So far this is my least favorite beer from this brewery and I think it's a solid example of the style. Nice job guys, but this one has the potential to be batter.

Pours a murky Brown – black color with one finger of an off-white colored head. Great lacing and some alcohol legs present. Sediment is present also

Aroma is of rich dark and roasted malt. I get a kiss of chocolate and maybe a hint of vanilla. Some citrusy hops play through at the back finish with some toffee.

Taste is a mixture between a hop-forward IPA, where the Bitterness is the leading and dominating character, and a more well rounded beer. Rich malt and coffee mix with citrusy hops. Some toffe character melds with a bitter finish. Almost no alcohol burn.

I feel that this beer would be better if the hop intensity was toned back a bit. It seems to be a bit too aggressive in the hop category to blend well with the malt backbone. I see this pairing well with braised beef short ribs in a thick and rich stock. It gets a 85/100.

The appearance was a nice pure black color with a one finger white foamy head that ends up holding its own as far as trying to settle out. I believe this head must last for almost the entire beer. The lacing was clingy and somewhat thick. The smell had roasted coffee notes coming through in a malted chocolate sort of way. The taste was sweet, roasty and bitter at different times that ends up leading into a dry bitter roasty finish. On the palate, it sat about at a medium and tries to show a decent sessionable aspect but probably because of the high ABV, it ends up being more of a sipper. The carbonation shows enough harshness for the black ale style and still shows a decent smoothness running about my mouth and tongue. Overall, super nice Imperial Black Ale, well worthy of having again.

Pours a dark black with a small tan head. Smells of brown sugar, hops, and roasted malt. Tastes of hops and bitterness, roasted malts, some sweetness, and some citrus. Medium-light mouthfeel with low carbonation. This is a delicious black IPA, one of the best I've had.

Nice smoked molasses aroma. Interesting almost flat anis flavor. Caramel overtones. Good stuff.
